Default Luck

Who here believes in luck? Do you think that you can gain and lose luck, or is it just something that comes to you no matter what you do in life.

I personally don't believe in luck. I'm quite open to there being something after death and greater powers, but I just don't think that certain things happen because of luck. When a good thing happens it doesn't have to happen because you're lucky, it's just a good thing to happen. I believe more in chance, and the idea that something can either go wrong, or can be good, and the outcome depends on absolutely anything. When someone wins the lottery I don't think they won because of luck, they won because they were fortunate enough to actually have the winning numbers. At the end of the day someone out there is going to have the right numbers, and every ticket has a one in however many chance of winning.

Good things happen to good people, bad things happen to good people. Life seems a bit random.

On the lottery, etc fromt - I believe in odds and probability. I think I may have heard that if you played £10 per Saturday for the next 14,000 years then the probability is that you'll win the jackpot once.

Yeah I do believe in luck, not that saying though "good things happen to good people" and the opposite about bad. I just think everyone has luck at different times.

I think all yer describing there is human interactions. If you behave badly to others, there's a good chance they'll do it back. And the reverse of course.

Nothing mystical in that.

Nah.. I'm not talking about direct interactions like that.I mean in general, if you're a good person and do good things for others, somehow you will be paid back, not nessasarily from the person you have done good for.. just in general.

OK Lee, I'll still hold with my thought. What I was meaning is that if person A is crappy to persons B to Z, then that individual becomes reputed as not a nice person and people feel less inclined to be nice to A. This is a truism I think and will reflect in 99% of A's life.

If baddie A suddenly happens to win the lottery, then that's just a random single event.

I realise I'm not explaining this well - it's part of my belief in socialism/people.

Yeah yeah.. I know what you're saying. You're talking about human nature though, I'm talking about karma..

Say person A is a recluse, but donates to charity, does some voluntary work for the Samaritans, tries to see good in everyone and every situation and generally has good morals and a good heart.. I believe that person A will be repaid in some way at some time in their life. I think they will have good things happen to them whereas a murderer, say will at some point in their life will have to think about their actions in depth when something bad happens to them... I'm not doing a very good job of explaining either am I?
What I'm trying to say is repayment for good deeds is not a direct thing from someone, but in general. You know?
What goes around comes around..

What am I supposed to do?
I’m up the creek and never mind the paddle boy
I haven’t even got a canoe

I sold my soul to an Arctic Roll
I went to hell on a red skidoo
I did the Shake’n'Vac and broke my effing back

well, I believe in luck as in some people seem to have better things happen to them than others and some people always seem to have bad things happen but not in a mystical kind of way, if you get me

Paying £2 for a €uro lottery
is well worth it for Friday
a Lucky Dip
and then it can go into Millions or thousands.
Worth a gamble.

My OH had a hospital appointment this morning for laser treatment to his face..
I offered to go with him for a bit of company and moral support. I assured him that I didn't think he would feel a thing and that there probably wouldn't be anything to see on his face afterwards..
Well, he came out of the treatment room looking shellshocked and like he had been physically assaulted. He said it was really sore and has 6 large dark purple bruised lumps on his face! He looked like a cross between Quasi Modo and a leper!
Unfortunately, I laughed so hard, I hurt my neck and cannot now look to the side or look down...
Ian, I think that is what I call karma!
