Was going to post this on PJ's Thread, but thought most of you would want to see this and may not click the thread.
PJ asked which was more Googled, X Factor or Big Brother. Most of us agreed Big Brother and I now have the official statistics. The X Factor An interesting pattern shows that the 2006 and 2007 series of X Factor proved less popular with Google users whilst 2005 and 2008's series seemed to be more searched. Although the show gradually becomes more popular as the years went on starting from 2008 onwards. 2010's series is the most Googled so far, as shown on the graph below. The X Factor is also most Googled World Wide, In Dublin, Ireland. And in terms of British Cities, It's most searched for in Belfast in Northern Ireland. Big Brother Well this is very interesting my friends and should come in handy in future arguments with Yanks. World Wide, the word Big Brother has been googled more in The United Kingdom than it has been in any other country that does the show, with USA not even appearing on the Top 10. In terms of The United Kingdom, The show is most googled in Scotland closely followed by Northern Ireland and then England. Another interesting fact, Big Brother 5 in 2004 was the most googled Big Brother ever. Big Brother 7 back in 2006 also very popular. Series 6 falls in popularity from Big Brother 5. Big Brother 8 onwards, as shown by the show itself and this is why I'm quite fascinated by this the way people's minds worked... After 2006, Big Brother began falling in popularity however Big Brother 8 remained more searched than Big Brother 9 in 2008. [Quite Annoyed] Big Brother 10 then drops even more in popularity after that but thankfully by 2010 the popularity did begin to pick up again since BB10 but didn't quite become as searched as BB9 but still more popular than the 10th Series. And the Top 3 Most Searched Big Brother terms since 2008 are: Big Brother Axed The BB9 Cast Dowling Wins Ultimate Big Brother I'd also like to update you all on how TiBB has been doing on Google's Search Engine! No statistics showing up for 2001 - 2007. But I can reveal that This Is Big Brother Forums has been googled more times in 2008 than it has been in 2009. 2010 Slightly more popular though than 2008 and England is the most popular country in terms of who's googling TiBB. But yes to sum it up, Big Brother is alot more popular than X Factor has been on Google although in terms of 2010, X Factor wins. But other than that, Big Brother has it. Woah I feel like I'm being a weatherman or something, seriously.

Info overload!
Xfactor is far more popular than BB. Get over it. I have no clue what all that google stuff means but BB is a daily 24/7 live show(and has internet feed) so it's gonna be googled daily more than XF which is just a weekend event. |

I agree that X factor is more popular. BB has only got so much google searches because there is like 1000's of different things a person can search about it.

When it comes down to XF UK VS BB UK, X Factor wins. But in terms of XF VS BB around the entire world, Big Brother wins.

I just did some research last night and shared it with you all for ****** sake. And how is X Factor more popular? It may be more talked about and more watched nowadays but these graphs clearly show it wasn't always that way and BB is more googled.

The last 'big' Big Brother was BB7, hence the 2006 figures are the last big ones
2007 and 2008 saw a lot of the public continue to watch but the main interest came from the hardcore fans hence BB8-11 all have a similar search ratio. 2009 and 2010 probably saw slightly higher figures because noone was watching anymore so people will have been wanting somewhere to discuss it Also BB isn't that big in America, its a cult show over there and always has been. The media dont really follow it over there

you need a life
You did some reasearch last night? Sorry but X Factor has a much bigger audience than Big Brother but what with 24/7 live feed of course it's going to be more googled, as well as it ending, it's only logical.

Yeah I agree with this. With Big Brother you're basically watching 11 peoples lives unfold on screen so there's a lot more to talk about than with X Factor, particularly when it's on for every day as well

Plus Big Brother is a character from the hugely popular Nineteen-Eighty-Four and has become a ubiquitous symbol for state control and surveillance. It's a catch all term and whilst the TV show undoubtedly makes up for most searches, it has thousands of other applications.
