You know when we were all at primary school? Remember the last few days before the end of term were relaxed and non stop fun?
Well it was my daughters 2nd last day yesterday and part of their "fun day" involved watching a film about Jesus Christ!! She told me all about it today and her words were " oh mummy, I couldn't even look when they made Jesus stand at a cross and hammer a nail through his wrist! He was still alive!!" WTF?? Last easter I had to sit through an excruciating school service where Reverend Thom told them the same story including all about his resurrection.. Do you know how difficult it is to explain to a 6 year old that people dont come back to life! Makes me mad!

but i am alive again so you told your daughter the truth.
all jokes aside it is not nice to show films off like that to 6 year olds.

So what do you want to do, protect them from the the story of Jesus' crucifixition their whole lives? They will learn about it someday, I dont see the problem with watching it. I saw a film about it as well when I was about that age.
And at an Easter service they're obviously going to tell the story of Easter. Whether you believe it or not, that is what Christians believe happened and that is the whole reason we have Easter Sorry, but I dont see why it'd make you mad tbh |

Is it a religious school?
And unfortunately, things seem to have changed nowadays...there's not much 'fun' stuff around the last days of term anymore. And if there is, it always has to be related to some educational aspect - quite often the subject you're actually present in too. So if I was in Maths, we could play a game...but it'd have to be a Maths game. I think it's because some people just don't bother coming in on the last day because 'it's just games all day' was the excuse they were using...and so they had to change that. Stupid, I know...but there you go. |

My daughter had just lost her great gran (and her rabbit) soobviously she was delighted when Rev Thom (or the prime minister as she refers to him) happened to mention that people could come back to life! I'm all for teaching children the deiiferences in religion and cultures all over the world but to fill their head with far fetched stories at such a young age is just wrong IMO!

I dont know whether it is a religous school or how much they've taught about Christianity but I would have thought it would be made clear that Jesus was a bit of a special case? They are just saying what is said in the Bible, you may personally believe it is far fetched stories but I doubt they will. Why would crucifixtion be far fetched anyway? Personally, I dont think you can ignore the reason behind these holidays. If you dont believe in God fair enough, but the whole point of Easter is supposed to be to celebrate Jesus' resurrection so it's not that surprising that it was mentioned in an Easter service Last edited by MTVN; 21-12-2010 at 08:49 PM. |

I don't mean to sound judgmental LOL but surely you should've known the religious nature of the school when you were applying for a place?
I mean from my experience (I went to a Church of England school) there really wasn't that much religious input. I assume there're secular primaries available.

I'd just explain the truth that sadly people don't come back once they die and that the bible is just a story that some people believe and some people don't

I would say its an odd event to cover at the Christmas season,I really think that for children as young as your child then you should have been made aware of what they were going to cover and for them to ask for your view as to whether you wanted her to watch it or not.
Easter is a very different time so this film was more appropriate then, still though I would say with your permission. You have a right to feel rather disappointed with the School at the very least. Last edited by joeysteele; 21-12-2010 at 10:22 PM. |

I don't think they expect many kids to question or even think about it.

Yeah but I never figured kids paid attention to such detail if you get me. I never paid attention in church

I don't mind the nativity story, but to tell them absolute rubbish like his ability to walk on water and come back from the dead really gets to to me!

Kids in Ireland learn about that stuff from the age of four, it's not a big deal.

They are getting told in a very serious manner from people they trust (their teachers) that this is actually true! It's just madness to me! My daughter is clever enough to differentiate between fairy tales and real life, but her questions re JC are just too much!.. Is Jesus real? (me; yip) Is God real (me; hmmm) Was Jesus bad? (me; no) Why would they hammer nails through his wrists? (me; hmmm) Did Jesus come back to life? (me; nope, that's not true) Why did Rev Thom say he did? (me;cos that's what he believes) Can The Gran come back to life (me; nope) Can Thumpy come back tolife? (me; nope) She's never asked i I believe if a pumpkin can be turned into a golden coach.. she just knows that they're fairy tales

And you kind of put your foot in it by telling her Jesus was real, not denying God's existance and then saying that he didnt come back to life tbh |
