The school CCTV shows him being
away for 11 minutes, but 11 minutes
is a long time when your son is

It's an unfortunate mistake, but that's all it is. They provide this service up and down the country, and no one hears of the numerous visits a day that happen without incident.

..I don't understand how the teachers took the wrong child out of class..that doesn't make any sense to me...

Maybe they didn't like him, and saw it as an opportunity for an 11 minute break?

It was an error... nothing more. No harm came to the kid, kenzie is an unusual name though, odd to get it mixed up?

..crikey Arista..I don't know how to reply to that...hmm, I just can't understand if the teachers introduced him to the social worker, which would be procedure...how they wouldn't know it was the wrong child...

It was a mistake, fair enough....but had it been my child that had been removed from school without my consent or knowledge, I would be demanding some pretty fast answers as to how and why it could happen....also, the father who was expecting a visit must have been left disappointed too.

..well, in my school it would be the custodial parent/foster parent who took the child and never the social worker, that wouldn't be allowed..but maybe things are done differently in larger town schools....

In some cases that isn't allowed, and visits can only take place if supervised. I used to provide staff to Social Services to cover these visits.

..would they go to the school to collect the child themselves then JHC..?..I would have thought the child is brought to the visit by someone they're familiar with...that's what happens at our school anyway...

It can't always work out like that, as what if the father was abusing the mother? She wouldn't want to take their child on a visit to see him. Not all families have extension of any kind, so she may be a single parent unable to get out of work, as another example.

They do have contact centres where they have childrens toys and games to facilitate family play, but I've had workers pick children up from schools and family residences. If a court has assigned the father supported visitation, then he has a right. SS just have to facilitate it in the best way they can.

This is really bad.. Maybe it's just because I work with kids only a little younger than this, but guests at work such as social workers are watched like hawks. They have to sign in and out and if they need to see a child, we need parental permission, the child has to recognise the person, etc. I don't understand why the kid didnt say anything.. He must have been upset for the parents to complain. I'd be really upset if my kid had been taken away from school with a stranger. Even if this person was a social worker, it could easily have not been. It may be just a simple mistake, but it's something that could easily have been prevented.

..I realise that, I meant the foster/custodial parent usually takes the child from the school and hands them to the social worker so they can take them to the contact centre...it makes it much less disruptive for the child as well, rather than have a stranger collect them from school, which is quite daunting anyway, especially if they're visiting an absent parent they may not know very well.....

There are about half a dozen Kenzie's in my kid's school. Must be popular in certain areas.

if that's the case, the teachers/staff/social worker should have noticed something.

Had the social worker never met the child before? They shouldn't have been allowed to take the child from school then. Unless it was a very serious case of course.
