I started smoking mid-march around the 19th, and I wish I hadn't

I was just so stressed and sad around that time and it really helped as a calming down mechanism. I was smoking like 7-8 cigs a day around that time. It also gave me a sense of company aha, I guess around that time I was dealing with abandonment issues or something and the cig was something that could keep me company and I could rely on not leaving. It's weird, it's like I struggled to talk to real people at the time cause I was so down but when I would smoke it would feel like I was with another person, I just didn't have the pressure to talk, nor the worry of that person leaving me.
I smoke much less now like half a cig to two a day, and i'm working on quitting. I don't actually enjoy it, really, it just calms me down and helps me deal with stuff. My goal is to quit smoking by the end of this month, cause I really don't want to jeopardize my health and stuff. Anyways, what is it like for you? What got you started smoking, if you do? And if you don't, would you ever do it?
