Let's not remember ourselves with Redemption Island, I will have a Survivor breakdown again
Nicaragua was weird. I mean, it's not a hateful season but I didn't get anything out of it. It just...happened. Last edited by Captain.Remy; 06-05-2020 at 09:46 PM. |

Finished the premerge of South Africa: Maldives earlier this week and it's been okay so far! Not bad but definitely the least eventful and exciting of the SA seasons I've seen so far. The plebs vs. celebs thing was kind of convoluted at first but it's not uninteresting so I don't mind it. Same with the Black Cowrie, it's ultimately irrelevant but I was sometimes impressed with how it affected the strategy around certain votes. Raituhn is definitely the inferior tribe and I'm bummed that a bunch of unfortunate events in the eleventh hour somehow led to them entering the merge with the majority. They're just a little more underedited and bland and I don't think the show will be able to hold its own if it just turns into a Pagonging. Tshepo was kind of a fun mess of a first boot for their tribe but he kinda peaked in the premiere with his swimming struggles turning into him catching rats for the celebs to eat, which was a fun throwback to Borneo. Tasleem basically accepted defeat and was lame as hell in the process, Carmel was kind of stank and indignant about Harry not telling the tribe about the Idol but she had a little bit of hustle to her that could have maybe turned into something, and Harry I was vaguely mixed on. His edit would've been much more overbearing if he was on US Survivor because they would've played up the whole nerd angle, and I did laugh at him finding an Idol and hiding it in such a good spot that he lost it, but he was also a little bit too whiny at times like when Hykie did the puzzle and won a Reward Challenge for them and Harry like screamed and asked him questions about the puzzle to prove his worth Goma has definitely been the superior tribe and I can hear MXO's Goma chant vividly in my head as I'm typing this out. Luka didn't really have time to shine but it was interesting to see an alpha get booted first and I think he could've been a fun villain if he had more time to shine. I feel like most people would like Philicity because... reasons, but I thought she was vaguely sour and condescending and I didn't really miss her at all! Jacques didn't really exist for much of anything until he quit over his vitiligo () and I appreciate him for being a loyal Roxnessa cub but his quit really did **** them over so :\ Sindi's edit was nothing and she was always on the side I wasn't rooting for so I didn't care when she went. And then there was Roxnessa... What's not to love about two vapid blonde celebs who are actually very into The Game and have an impressive understanding of it for random celebrities but are just SO cliquey and off-putting that they're perpetually on the outs of their tribe? Their story really is an epic tragedy, between Jacques's quit, Roxy playing the Idol on Vanessa and them taking out Sindi, and then Vanessa's freak neck injury coupled with Roxy's inevitable boot that episode. It's such a shame that they both went out right before the merge because they were easily the two people I cared about the most. I don't even know who I like more, because at first I was really vibing with Roxy but then the scene of Vanessa "comforting" Alison is legitimately one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen in any show. https://streamable.com/y5x1yr So yeah, I'm ready for the merge even though I'm not fully convinced it will be that good. I'm kind of in a similar situation I was with Champions where I don't really have a favorite going into it. It might be Alison or even MXO?

I’ve finished Redemption Island. It’s true what everybody says - this season is not great. I’d say it’s my least favourite season so far, because I found it dull and littered with characters who I don’t like getting far more airtime than they should
Edgic: Spoiler: 1. Steve - I liked his dry humour and his opposition to Phillip as well as his sarky comments (and mock salutes) 2. Ralph - He was fun and a nice person and unintentionally provided a few (some of THE few) funny moments throughout the season 3. Julie - Her jury speech was probably my highlight of the season? 4. Francesca - A fun first boot who I wanted to stay but didn’t miss too much when she was gone 5. Ashley - Her hatred of Phillip and villainous edit towards the end was fun 6. Sarita - I liked how she infuriated David but she’s not as great as she’s made out but it’s RI so I get it 7. Kristina - She had some potential but then she went early 8. Matt - He’s not that great but by default he’s one of the better ones 9. Mike - He was a nice guy and fairly inoffensive 10. Grant - I didn’t find out what his voice sounded like until episode 11 11. Krista - I don’t really have much thoughts on her 12. Andrea - Kind of annoying at times but she’s not too bad I guess 13. Natalie - Not a bad person but she was an irritating Rob enabler 14. Stephanie - Her devotion to Russell was annoying, also she was so misguided and so RUDE 15. Russell - Not even that bad this season but it’s still Russell so w/e 16. David - Most self satisfied human being alive good GOD 17. Rob - Boring and overedited and the buddy system was so ****ed up. I am NOT a fan 18. Phillip - This is pretty much self explanatory Last edited by Matthew.; 10-05-2020 at 11:26 PM. |

Sooooo, far from me to go against the grain but...I quite enjoyed Redemption Island
I think a lot of it depends on whether you like Rob though, and weirdly this is his only previous appearance where I actively did? Also I screamed almost every time Phillip was on screen. The man’s a disaster |

I think it’s a lot like Samoa, where if you like Russell Hantz, chances are you’d like that season too. I just wish this season wasn’t so Rob and Phillip-focused, as I’d have liked to see some of the other people more |

Rob's gameplay in Redemption Island just actively prevents anything interesting from happening. He's played played like a bully who refuse anyone from having any sort of fun, but he cranks it up to a ten this season by controlling his alliance's diets, who they talk to, what they talk about, where they go, etc. It's just entirely suffocating and that dynamic completely castrates any attempt at a shakeup or forward plot development or anything. It also doesn't help that his alliance consists of Phillip, who is abhorrent in every sense of the word, and a bunch of dumb nobodies who don't have any discernible personality traits. And it really doesn't help that the opposing tribe is the most MOR group of human beings alive.
I've pointed it out before, but after Rob and Phillip the third most developed character of the season is Matt, someone who spent a total of 8 days playing Survivor and 29 days basically living on an island by himself. That basically sums up Redemption Island in a nutshell for me.

Starting S28
Episode 1: - Jeremiah and LJ's HOT accents - Can't believe J'Tia has the audacity to be bossy af whilst doing absolutely nothing - The way Kass was blatantly honest telling J'Tia she was going to vote her out - Garrett finding the idol - Lindsey: "her voice, her attitude... I cannot STAND her" @ Trish - Tony and his spy shack "useless Cliff and weasel Woo" AHHHHHHH - A MESS @ J'Tia pouring rice on the fire, she's so dumb/trash Pretty good premiere overall. Super disappointing that Garrett was voted out (and I didn't even like David but) over J'Tia when she's clearly the most annoying and worst person in the tribe. Surprised by how much I like Kass when I didn't at all on the other season I saw her on. Sarah seems a lot better so far too, like she has an actual personality and isn't just this moody bitch? Tony and Spencer great as ever All the girls on the beauty tribe seem to have the exact same personalities. Zzzzz. Faves: Spencer, Garrett (), Tony, Kass, Lindsey Least faves: J'Tia, Brice, Trish, Tash |

I think you're gonna like this season! I did like Garrett too but there's so many good & big personalities on the cast that the season still does fine without him. I also disliked J'Tia On rewatch she warmed to me a bit tho. A tad comical in hindsight. Lindsey was so damn good on rewatch too Her beef with Trish is pretty hilarious!

He's been pretty damn good this season, so a lot of hope for 28 one in that case
You liking Garrett because he's a poker player? J'Tia staying over Garrett though just left her with no room for redemption tbh |

Omg I'm shocked you find the others hotter. Jeffra is really pretty though Morgan is okay, I like her the most of those girls right now but they all seem pretty annoying honestly And I can't even tell the difference between Jeremiah/LJ. Both gorgeous but maybe just haven't seen them enough yet to tell them apart/see their personalities. |

S28EP2:
- Kind of here for the Cops'R'Us alliance. The way Tony lied though about Cliff/Lindsey and Sarah said she believes him 110% - J'Tia is literally SO bad at every challenge. But Spencer single-handedly WINNING the tribe immunity on that maze - "I hope you fall on your ass... dreams do come true in Survivor" WHO the hell said this?!? I think it was Lindsey @ Sarah but couldn't see properly - Just noticing how hot Jefra's accent is in this episode Pretty glad that Brice went although Alexis is dull as hell and adds nothing new when we've already got Jefra. Brice's eye roll was soooooo annoying in that TC though. Faves: Spencer, Kass, Lindsey, Tony Least faves: J'Tia, Brice, Trish, Tasha Couldn't even remember which one got the idol in the latest episode, I think it was Jeremiah though Last edited by caprimint; 13-05-2020 at 07:34 PM. |

So i n the spirit of watching something actually good and not Winners at War, here's the latest SA: Maldives update!
The merge has been okay so far! The Simon boot was pretty rudimentary because Goma was down in the numbers and they had to spend a lot of time with a Reward Challenge, merge feast, and Immunity Challenge. The Malusi boot would've been a bigger deal if I cared about him, but it was really just putting the final nail in Tejan's coffin. I don't really have much of an issue with Tejan because he's actually not nearly overbearing as his edgic strip would suggest, but he really fits in with the era of his season as a failure of a CPN mastermind (Maldives aired in 2010 so we're right at the peak of Hantzmania.) From continually lying to the celebs about the premerge votes, willingly letting Harry go for keeping the tribe strong despite suspecting that they were about to merge, and completely giving up control to Bonnie and Hykie at the worst time and letting them spearhead a Malusi boot, Tejan really just set himself up for disaster. The Cold War between Bonnie/Hykie and Tejan was brewing for a while and in the latest episode it finally blew up. What I did love about the Tejan boot episode was that it was able to tell a really compelling story despite its simplicity, something that Survivor in its current state completely fails at doing. We've seen Tejan continually pissing off Bonnie and Hykie with his gameplay and we knew that they were preparing to strike, and it actually manifested itself in an interesting way. They openly broke off their alliance with each other, declared that they were going to vote for each other, and spent the episode trying to rally their troops. A straightforward but still suspenseful story, one much more exciting than something like the Chris Noble boot in Ghost Island. Hykie had Bonnie in his corner and Tejan had Letshego in his corner so it came down to what Goma wanted to do. MXO went with Bonnie and Hykie presumably because of the celeb connection, Alison went with Tejan and Letshego because she's sooooo over Hykie's moralizing and holier than thou bull****, and then for some reason Sean didn't agree with his number one ally Alison and had some weird hangup where he unfortunately trusted Bonnie and Hykie more than Tejan. I've been unable to make up my mind on Bonnie and Hykie because I wasn't crazy about them at first but ended up liking both of them by the end of Raituhn and heading into the merge. That being said, they were both sooooooo terrible this episode and I hate them both!!! They are absolutely validated in their feelings towards Tejan because he did blatantly lie to them multiple times and he really was dumb for letting them get this far in the game, but the two of them are just soooooooo up their own asses and keep pushing forth the narrative that they are The Good People and it's nauseating. You could see pieces of it premerge when Hykie gave Bonnie a passionate speech about how they're actors so it's time to act, not , and this episode was full of passionate speeches from Hykie about how Tejan is THE SNAKE and he lied to him TWICE (or three times, because Hykie can't make up his mind) and HE NEEDS TO GO!!!!! The most nauseating part was after Malusi was voted out when Hykie was somehow allowed to directly address Harry and say that this was for him. Thank **** Letshego and Alison astutely pointed out "ummm you had just as much of a hand in booting Harry, you ass" and they're both sooooo over his bull****. And then Bonnie in particular, good lord. Her talk on the beach about how her whole body *repels* Tejan whenever she looks at him, finding the Idol while Tejan was looking for it and basically gloating in his face that she found it instead of him, and her speech at Tribal about how Tejan is a scorpion on the back of a crocodile who is ready to sting and just say it's in his nature.... like, Tejan is definitely more of an outward gameplayer and more dishonest than them, but Hykie and Bonnie are both clearly and openly concerned about the game and are playing it too!!! It's just constant moralizing and dramatics with the two of them, constantly preaching about how they just want to be honest and *not* play a calculating game, and then they proceed to...... flip-flop alliances and break them but justify it as the righteous thing to do. Oh, and Bonnie cast her vote for "Tsotsi Tejan!" and Google tells me that tsotsi is a South African slang word for a young urban criminal I'll end on that note.

S28EP3:
- @ the blindfolded task and the way they all keep running into things - Omg can't cope with the beauty girls having a convo about how chickens lay eggs, they're so dumb - Morgan: "I don't think Jeremiah is that beautiful" funny that she only says that after he went against their alliance Bitter af - Literally never seen someone as **** as J'Tia in every. single. challenge. Wow - The way Spencer carried the tribe and did EVERYTHING in the water/throwing the balls in the hoop. He deserves a way better tribe, they keep ruining it for him Thank ****ing god that Spencer was saved. Would have been one of the worst votes ever if they actually saved J'Tia over him Faves: Spencer, Kass, Tony, Lindsey, Jeremiah Least faves: J'Tia, Trish Oh and I found out it was actually LJ with the idol, not Jeremiah |
