Default Anti-police posters appear outside Scotland Yard

Quote:
A series of anti-police and anti-consumerist posters have been spotted around London, with one even fixed behind the glass of the bus stop outside New Scotland Yard.

The posters, which are footed with the logo of the Metropolitan Police next to the words ‘totally racist’ have been seen occupying advertising space on bus stops around the capital while anti-consumerist messages have also been seen on the tube.

One such poster was even spotted outside the Met’s headquarters.

‘You’re 28 times more likely to be stopped and searched in London if you don’t have white skin, because we’re still really racist,’ says the poster.

Another reads: ‘We’ve pointlessly targeted cannabis users in Lewisham, while other people legally drink their drugs.’

A third, seen in North London, says: ‘We caused the 2011 riots by shooting dead an unarmed civilian and then lying about it. And we got away with it.’

Clear Channel, who own the advertising space, told i100.co.uk that the posters were not an official campaign and would be removed.

And anarchist magazine Strike! have since taken credit for the creation of messages, but told i100.co.uk that while they designed them, they did not put them up.

Many social media users have tweeted or re-tweeted the pictures, with some using the hashtag #ACAB, an acronym standing for ‘All Coppers Are Bastards’

I don't know, it's a tough one, on the one hand Police have a really hard job but on the other I firmly believe racial profiling goes on alot. The whole Cannabis users being targeted though is hardly the Polices fault, it's not down to them that cannabis is illegal and alcohol isn't

Yeah, I don't think they realise that the police themselves don't actually make the laws in regards to that cannabis one.

One day the police will say, do you know what? F * * * you all, and walk away. Then we'll see who the bad guys really are.

I'm not suggesting there's not an element of racism in the police, but the only way to counter that is for more black and Asian people to join up. So why is that no happening? And who's fault is it that it's not happening?

Everyone seemingly has an axe of some kind to grind with the police. Until the day you really need them.

Oh please. Its like people aren't allowed to protest in any way at all.

If the people putting up the signs ever needed the police no doubt they wouldn't trust them to do the job properly.

Every time I've dealt with the police I've listened, I've heard them, I've watched them walk away thinking almost knowing that I'd never hear from them again and I was right every single time bar none.

People have the right to protest if they feel the police are not doing the job.

Before I start getting accused of racism that was my poor attempt at humour.

It has been a long day.

'The police started the 2011 riots' lmao

No, the polices' actions started a protest, the aggressive chavs who saw an opportunity for free things started the riots, misplaced blame at it's best right here.

The police aren't above criticism, and imo institutional racism does remain as well as a worrying lack of accountability

That said I strongly disagree with the 'ACAB' sentiment and I'm sure that the vast majority of the rank and file are decent people genuinely committed to protecting our streets

Agree with all this. And like I said in an earlier post, the only way to stop racism within the police is to have more black and Asian officers in the force. So... why aren't there? Change things from within.

Great quote from that article.

Quote:
Young minority officers find it tough to retain their enthusiasm in a difficult environment, Wilson says. "They may witness questionable language being directed at BAME suspects and young black and Asian men being stopped inappropriately, and all this adds to a negative experience. That is not helpful. These are the very people we want to come through the ranks."

It was a police officer who made that comment in Jan 2013, just over a year ago. Doesn't seem, to have gotten much better, does it?

It has changed though, don't you think? I mean, it's still appalling that racism and any other kind of ism is still alive and well in the Force, but when you see and read things about how it was back in the 70s and 80s, things are better, don't you think? Sadly enlightenment is just glacially slow.

Why would he lie? HE doenst seem to be particularly angry as you have said he's done well for himself.

So are you saying he's lying and young officers dont have to put with horrendous racist language directed at BAME suspects and they dont have to watch Asian and black men being stopped inappropriately. Why would make up stuff like that?
