Default England : School children to strike over 'lack of climate change action'

Strike? Today

No fecking need
go to Parliament In Your Own Time.
Saturday is good for that.

[School children across the country have
swapped the classroom for the
picket line today, as they strike over the
government's perceived lack of
action on climate change.
Eco-conscious youngsters are
taking part in more than 50 planned
Youth Strike 4 Climate protests in the UK.
It is unclear how many British students
will be involved in the walkout,
but up to 70,000 are thought
to striking across the world.]

[Swedish kid Greta Thunberg started the Youth Strike 4 Climate campaign]

https://news.sky.com/story/school-ch...ction-11637262

Not all of these kids will be on Strike
many will just bunk off.

Sign Of The Times.

but this goes for my country too, so from me for the school children here and in UK for protesting for a good cause, namely climate change

Oh yes Nicky, because school kids have all the answers. And it's nothing to do with just goofing off school...

Solar energy instead of nuclear energy is also a good and climate friendly option

They couldn't call it a strike if they went on a Saturday Arista

My opinion? meh it's one day, I think it's kind of insulting to assume that none of the kids genuinely care about the environment and it's just an elaborate why of getting a day off. I have two teenagers and they're both very environmentally conscious. Lots of teens from their school arrange things like collecting plastic from our beaches etc on their days off and in their free time so I don't think it's far fetched to think that these kids may be genuinely trying to help some how

Nicky and Livia in this thread has made my morning.

----—---------------_---_____-------

On the Thread topic... I mean... I get what these kids are trying to do and it's honourable etc. but I think they might have misunderstood the purpose and effectiveness of strike action, which is that its supposed to cost the company (or government) you're working for money or productivity or both. Which is why things like airline and other transport strikes are so effective; they become very expensive, very quickly.

Teenagers striking from school for a day doesn't actually cost the government anything, so I don't really see how it's going to be effective, other than as a publicity stunt.

Actually my point was that it's futile while China, India, USA and all the other major polluters are still pumping crap into the sky.

Yes like the Arc reactor, amazing piece of tech being developed for widescale use right now. So far the most it has powered is one large high rise building but they think if it can be safely scaled up, it could easily power an entire city.

where we live, some houses already got solar panels on their roofs

when they renovated the houses last year, making them energy friendly also isolation material inside the roof (to prevent it being too hot in summer, or too cold in the winter)

Kids in georgraphy class

"hi brats (says Mr Clark)today we are going to talk about climate, weather patterns and the last ice age in the UK and maybe touch on glaciation"

class heaves a collective sigh and bury their head in their phones and dial out for the next hour

on social media there is a chance of a day off school at some protest

bloody climate change shagging out women and taking our jobs - get me my placard and a whistle

well at school it's just those books about climate, weather patterns

at protests you can get the attention of everyone for climate change

conclusion: Protesting about climate change is better than sitting at school and reading about it in books and doing nothing
