Report on BBC
says its similar to what Ed Miliband had as a idea. Making The whole of the UK get money for improvements. [Chancellor hints budget will loosen purse strings after years of austerity The budget will look to reward voters who ousted their Labour MPs with spending focused in the Midlands and the North.] [The budget, Mr Javid's first as chancellor , is aimed at sending a clear signal that the UK is open for business and investing in its infrastructure and regions outside London.] https://news.sky.com/story/chancello...ehind-11902600 Last edited by arista; 11-03-2020 at 07:17 AM. |

I'm in two minds about the spending promises. On the one hand, the North of England has been neglected for so long in favour of the South that it's LONG past due extra funding. On the other hand, I don't think "rewarding the people who voted you in" is how government spending should work. Once elected, the government needs to represent ALL of the public equally, whether they voted for them or not.

The visual metaphor of the stone won't be necessary, the tories will u turn, backtrack and extend the timescales on any promises made anyway.

Budget will be decreased, they'll blame the EU most likely. I do think Boris will "reward" the North for voting him in though, to maintain this new "party of the people" illusion.

Sounds pretty good to me. Hope they follow through with it. From what I hear Boris was great as the Mayor, so no reason he won't be.
