Quand il pleut, il pleut

...so we’ve had these types of dilemma many times and they’re very much more ‘hypothetical’, but obviously designed to create thought processing....anyway, this is the sort of dilemma that will actually have been and are being faced by front line medical teams across the world, so it’s quite interesting to pose in this way and at this time...
Three patients — a 16-year-old boy with diabetes, a 25-year-old mother and a 75-year-old grandfather — are crammed into a hospital triage tent and struggling to breathe. Only one ventilator is left. Who will you give it to and your reasoning ..?.... |

The 75 year old to get the one ventilator.
As he would need it, the most. |

25 year old mother - because her kid shouldn't be at risk of growing up without their mom

Who, Douglas?
|
Probably 16 year old boy with diabetes - both him and the elderly man fall into the vulnerable category, and he’s much younger so I would give it to him

Honestly this would be an awful and horrific dilemma.
I couldn't decide, so I cheated rather. Since I'd have given them all a ventilator if I could, to try to save their lives. As all their lives have worth, no matter their ages. So since I'd give all 3. I chose from writing their ages on a bit of paper. Then drawing the one out of a jar. It came out for the 25 year old anyway. Sorry, this would be a most horrific decision. Although the sad fact is, Doctors have had to make that very decision during this pandemic. Maybe not on the ages listing but for many patients needing ventilators, while not having enough. |

Nah

Maybe give the ventilator to each of them for one hour and switch rounds? idk.
If not, then the mother.

The 16 year old boy.
He has a full life ahead of him, the older person has most of their life behind them. The 25 year old mother has a better chance than the young lad of surviving without the ventilator. |

Either the boy or the Grandfather who are most at risk.
So then based on age probably the 16 year old. Last edited by Marsh.; 03-08-2020 at 04:34 PM. |
