Do you put it to your ear the normal way

or

Do you hold it flat in front of your face and talk into the bottom of it like a mentalist?

My cousin likes to put her phone on speaker, put it down and continue cooking or whatever while she's chatting. It's like listening to someone talk from the middle of the percussion section of an orchestra. Nightmare...
