Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, took a break from performing after her last CD, "Artpop," didn't fare as well as predicted. The reviews even led her to question herself.


"I felt like people were holding me to a pretty high standard," Gaga tells Mason. "Everybody's hooting and hollering because, you know, I didn't sell 20 million records this time, which I did with my first album. And you know, it's not easy to replicate that. And you just -- I don't have a formula."

The stress of those expectations combined with a heavy workload, led her to step away from music.

"I have to make sure everything was okay," Gaga tells Mason. "Because it wasn't. You know, it's one thing to put a train on the tracks. But it's another thing to keep the train on the tracks. You can't just let a train out on the tracks and just run it out; it'll -- I crashed."

That crash, she tells Mason, happened midway through 2013, and was caused in part by challenges she faced with her management. "I just didn't even want to make music any more," Gaga says.

She's back now with a collection of duets with Bennett. "This album will prove to her that she'll always be around 'cause it proves that she's a great performer," Bennett told Mason.

Bennett and Gaga talk with Mason about their unique friendship, and the career advice that Bennett has shared with her.

Gaga tells Bennett she just wants to be happy. "And I can't tell you how happy this music makes me," she says.

Mason's interview with Gaga and Bennett will be broadcast on "Sunday Morning" on Sept. 21 at 9:00 a.m. ET on CBS.

No doubt Lady Gaga takes her biggest risk of the venture singing solo in Billy Strayhorn's "Lush Life," one of the most revered and demanding ballads in the jazz repertoire. Some listeners might find her reading hyper-emotional, and indeed she lavishes too much vibrato on select notes. But she clearly has studied the dramatic structure of the song and conveys it eloquently. Yes, there's a great deal of Ella Fitzgerald's gauzy sound in this "Lush Life" and elsewhere on the album. Yet there's also a gutsiness to Lady Gaga's interpretation, a willingness to lay emotions bare, that cannot be denied.

Yeah, I reckon somewhere between 120k - 150k it originally hit like #10 on preorders on iTunes when it went for release back in august, and it's back up to #3 rn because of an interview on CBS, on top of that they sold 20k+ for the HNS special, and there's a PBS special that's gonna air next week too :amazed:

Yeah, I imagine it'll exceed those numbers too, then in a couple weeks time there's an hour long PBS special they filmed back in August that'll be airing in the US, which will give the album a boost, Black Friday and xmas sales, the Berlin concert is expected to be broadcast in the US too sometime before the new year and then there's the Grammys AND their post Grammy concert

I expect this album will have amazing longevity :clap2: honestly wouldn't be surprised if it outsold ARTPOP (in the US anyway)

I was stood, it was worth the extra money tbh as there was enough space to dance. :laugh: I was standing on the left of the stage but at times i was under the stage too. I was standing with Sarah's friends. Near one of the 'Venus pillars' (i dunno what to call them :tongue:) Sarah's story had me crying, she's so lucky!

I was also in that crazy part of the crowd when she said she was going to pick the 6 people to come on stage, me and my friends ran towards her but then she said she's picking people that slept outside of her hotel so we moved :laugh: I stood right next to the girl who looked like fka twigs in the marijuana number at one point.

Favourite performances - Bang Bang (her vocals :flutter:), Bad Romance, Venus, Just Dance, G.U.Y, Applause, Gypsy :love: (her vocals throughout though)

Also, they're already planning the C2C tour, the first (announced) date it @ the Royal Albert Hall in London on June 9th, 2015.

Apparently she told some fans backstage, that once she's finished the C2C tour, she wants to just go home, for a few months and spend some time writing new music, she said she could probably just write something that's at the standard of TFM if people just gave her the time, like she had during TF.

So I guess that means that her next album will probably be early 2016
