Well after playing Arkham Knight and Thief which was both solid Games, I went to check out Bloodborne which has received a lot of critical acclaim and praise as a great Game.

Well here is my review.

It starts off interesting with that creepy guy wanting you to sign a contract, and you get to design your own character and pick his origin which all sounds cool, but then the Game goes completely bad and backward once level 1 starts, it doesn't ease you into the Game at all, it instead puts you in with a load of enemies that are too overpowered for their own good, it doesn't listen to when you tell it to equip a weapon, and it tells you that the door is locked in the Hunter's Dream yet it's really open, plus they put an Axe (which would be really helpful against the overpowered enemies) in a really awkward corner that a lot of players would completely miss.

The Game might get better I don't know, but I shouldn't feel under this much pressure after the first level, it wasn't fun in the slightest.

Easily the most overrated Game that I've played on the PS4 so far with DriveClub being the most underrated.

Well Bloodborne is a type of spin off of that series of games and the whole point of Dark Souls is that it's extremely hard so it's that much more satisifying when you get past the bosses and that's why people love it. i haven't played Bloodborne but since it's made by the same people i can only assume it has the same type of formula. keep at it, it's supposed to be difficult.

I don't play Games that don't even help with the basics, I can accept difficulty as I just played Thief, but Bloodborne took the piss imo, and if Dark Souls is the same then I won't be playing that either.

Haha yeah, the whole point of the 'souls' games including Bloodborne is that they're supposed to be ridiculously difficult. I tried playing Demon's Souls years ago and it frustrated me too much, I haven't dared play any of the subsequent games. :laugh:

It's the Interstellar of Video Games, or shall I say Buffy The Vampire Slayer of Video Games considering that was around first and was ridiculously overrated due to the fact that it had some horror visuals and some hot guys and girls to drool over.

i love darks souls. there is no other game where i get a greater satisfaction from progressing. different strokes for different folks i guess but i love that it's insanely difficult.
and i wouldn't say it's overated. you're just pissy you can't get past the first boss. honestly man, keep at it. look up some guides on google. research it. trust me if it's anything like Dark Souls which i think it is, you'll feel so good going forward in it.

The Soul type games aren't for me. In fact I will often play games on easy as I get disinterested quickly when having to repeat levels. But it's awesome they exist and they're clearly well made, the effort that community makes in breaking those games down and discovering different aspects of them is amazing. There's nothing else quite like them.

It's just not fun for me having to try and get to grips with a Game and there's overpowered monsters everywhere, it would be fine if it was level 4 or 5, but the first level is just ridiculous to me.

And fair enough if you like crazy difficulty Ramsay, it just loses entertainment value for me when it also makes it insanely hard to find weapons to defend yourself with, or the fact that it's hard to tell if you've even equipped the weapon or not.

Bought Splatoon yesterday and I'm liking it a lot. Only played the default mode so far but it works really well, the combination of covering the ground and taking the opposition down feels fresh and rewarding as you're constantly contributing to your team's cause.

The single player levels are good for what they are too, better than expected for a multiplayer-focused game.

Bought the Uncharted Collection while it was half price on PSN, and thus got into the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta. I adored 3's multiplayer and played it well over 100 hours. They've made some really iffy changes/additions this time though. The core gameplay, moving, shooting etc feels great, but everything around it is really disappointing. It needs drastically changing for it to have the same impact on me as 3 did. I just wish they kept that formula and built on it instead of changing it, for what feels like, the sake of it.

I'm trying to play through Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns. Mainly because, I think it's at that point where if I don't do it now it'll age badly and I'll never do it. Having played the first two, it's more of a completionist thing... I just want to see it out at this point, basically.

Not going to lie, the game has issues. It feels like it was made on a tight budget, the quest system is pretty awful, as are the out-of-combat game mechanics. The combat however I'm quite getting into, definitely growing on me. I also don't hate the XIII storyline as much as some people do :joker:.

But yeah, I'd struggle to call it AAA, there are some huge discrepancies. The FMV is perfact (as always for FF) but then a lot of the environments feel enclosed and the textures are muddy. Then there's characters - all of the main ones (Lightning, Snow, Hope et al.) have clearly had plenty of work put into them and look great - but then all of the minor NPC's look like ****. Walking action man dolls. The contrast can be pretty grating.

But anyway! I'm going to hammer through the main questlines as quickly as possible just for closure.

I enjoyed MGSV but it feels unfinished and... given what was going on with Konami / Kojima last year... I'm inclined to suspect that it genuinely wasn't finished.

Also...

Although I appreciate the comedy in it, I can't forgive the game for what it did to me. The final / optional "Quiet" mission is SO brick hard that it killed me dozens of times, prompting the game to offer an "easy mode" option, if I would accept wearing a "lil chick hat"... which in my frustration, I did... completed the mission... an watched one of the most powerful cutscenes in the game play out with Snake looking like this:

About 60% of the way through Uncharted 3 on PS4 but struggling tbh... the shooting mechanics are ****ing awful. i deleted my dishonored 2 save file in a fit of rage :nono:

i was on mission 4/had put about 12 hours in but i messed up selecting powers/wasted some runes AND i thought you couldn't collect every rune/bone charm as either character, like some you could only get as corvo etc bc you had to pass through a rat tunnel or w/e but it turns out that wasn't true so i missed loads as well :bored:

gonna start again after new year coz i cba going through it all again so soon

i do think it's way harder to be stealthy as emily though :suspect: like most of her powers seem better suited to combat idk

no, kingdom hearts 1.5+2.5 hd is coming out at the end of march which includes kh 1, 2, birth by sleep, and re:chain of memories

kingdom hearts 2.8 which came out today includes birth by sleep 0.2 and dream drop distance

kh2 is my favourite game of all time tho, i can't wait for march. :flutter:

Horizon Zero Dawn.

Enjoying it immensely. The first game I've played for AGES where the "exp" is essentially real and in what YOU are learning. You get better at taking things down as you go but it has very little to do with your gear or your level or in game skills... But in actually learning weaknesses and tactics. The first time you fight the Sawtooth is a bit of a nightmare... The second time is almost easy, not because your character is stronger, but because you know how to fight it. And yet if you slip up you can still be taken out by a lowly strider or watcher.

SO many open world games need to take note.

I'm interested in the switch but tbh can't justify that sort of spend on what is essentially a handheld console (albeit an excellent one) that can be hooked up for big screen play. I'll probably look into one when they're under £150 second hand.

I'm really enjoying Horizon.
I'm still loving it too. The game overall isn't perfect, some frustrating "invisible walls" when moving around and the colour-coded yellow "places where you can climb" and not being able to climb up other places where, visually, you clearly should be able to feels outdated at this point. The combat itself though, combat tactics, variation, challenge level are all pretty much flawless. The best in anything I've played for a long time. On harder difficulties, no matter how over levelled you are, if you drop concentration for a few seconds or fail to be aware of what's going on you can be dead in a couple of hits even against basic enemies and yet thus far I have NEVER died and felt like it was "cheesy" / the fault of the game engine or unavoidable. I'm always able to say "yeah... I ****ed up." A challenge without becoming frustrating or relying on luck. There's a real art in that.

I've been farming the Thunderjaw for like a week. At this point I don't even know why. It's like... Just to see how quickly I can kill it, if I can kill it without taking a hit, if I can kill it with broadheads running around that I'm not allowed to kill... Etc...

This is what happened with resi 4 and I ended up completing it on pro using only the knife :umm2:.

And now that I've mentioned that it just makes me want to try to take down the Thunderjaw using only a basic green bow :think:

Once the disc launchers are off (which you can do from stealth before the fight even starts) he's not really tough at all, hence being good for farming in my opinion. There are loads of things I find tougher to fight. ANYTHING that flies, plus I find shell walkers in groups of three or more a nightmare :/. I'm not sure why. I dodge one and roll right into another :fist :

That's why only in groups of three or more; I was using exactly the same tactic but then one would come in from the side unseen while I was luring them towards the blast wires :joker:.

That was pretty early on to be fair, I'd just dodge & hardpoint arrow now probably. My Hunter bow has near enough + 150% damage thanks to all the purple drops from the Thunderjaw :hee: (I carry a separate Hunter bow with 150% fire, too).

haha the guard armour on proud is very hard, you really needed to grind up to about lv 12 or so on the enemies throughout the rest of traverse town in order to be able to kill him, i'd definitely just continue on medium now tho no point starting again

C&C3 and the expansion are both great too IMO, cleared both of those on Hard. Well worth a play. It graphically still holds up quite well (for an RTS).

Such a shame that C&C4 is pretty much awful. The conclusion to the story is crap AND the game play is changed too much to feel like C&C. One or the other (classic C&C game play with a poor conclusion to the story, OR worse game play but with a great conclusion to the story) I could have handled but both... Such an anticlimax.

No I didn't, I bought BoTW on my birthday but there was no stock anywhere for the switch so it's just been sat there all lonely lol, I only managed to get one on Saturday because there was a small shipment on Friday apparently and it was the last one left so I got lucky! It's amazing though I highly recommend it, being able to take it out the dock and play when I'm on the train etc is sooooo good :love: (and it's great as a normal console too)

yeah really disappointed Sam played through most of the game with Nathan. Not a very likeable character.

I've been playing Mafia III the last couple of days, I've got to say I've really enjoyed it, I don't see why the critics have been so mixed on it? I know it's a GTA wannabe but it's quite good at doing it, and it has some interesting ideas like the civilians being able to call The Police on you if they witness you comitting a crime, and the racial undertones in the story is very standout to the other games of it's type.

The only things that I'd fix about the game is the really small writing when text comes up during a storyline or when the game is trying to explain a new element of the game, and the fact that there's not been enough car chase scenes yet, other than that I think it's been a very good game with great length, and a decent difficulty without driving me insane.

Apparently you don't get to see the "real" ending until you've completed it with all three characters... (2B, 9S and A2).

I've still not actually finished 2B though, got side-tracked by Hellblade, but will be going back to Nier after that.

From what I've read you haven't actually finished it though... things start to change in the 2nd and 3rd play throughs and at some point you realise the game wasn't actually finished at all :worry:

ugh i'm tempted to beat the A2 playthrough now for the tea but it seems a bit much having to play it 3 times ;_;

tbf though the hacking option has changed things up a lot and i haven't encountered any side quests that i completed in the first playthrough (i have had new ones :amazed:)

Just been getting into Skyrim the past couple of days. Really enjoying it but it's a lot more difficult than the games I usually play, constantly getting lost and stuck in places following that terrible navigation system the game hasSkyrim's difficulty is a bit broken. The game starts out really hard and gets progressively easier; by the time you have a high level character there's very little challenge at all in any but the biggest of battles. Especially if you start smithing / enchanting. Except that the occasional random bog standard mage that will still one hit kill you for no apparent reason.

Dunno what you're playing on but Skyrim is and always has been a far superior game when it has a LOT of mods active.
