Italian Media are reporting this morning that Doni is actually retiring from football. According to the Gazzetta Dello Sport He had a cardiac arrest during a test and almost died.

Doni was released by Liverpool yesterday and the club said that he had joined the Brazilian outfit Botafogo. There were some doubts in Brazil over this as Botafogo didn’t release any statements of him joining. The rumour was that he was joining another club called Botafogo which plays in the 4th division and not the Botafogo from Rio.

If this is all true then it is very sad and at the same time kudos to the doctors and Liverpool for doing these tests on all the players on a regular basis to ensure that there isn’t another tragedy.

To Doni I want to wish him the best.
