like we'll definitely have gen 8 by the end of next year because we're down to the last SM mythical pokemon being used on a movie (electric Lucario is featuring in M21) and they've always featured a new pokemon from the next generation to feature in the last film of a generation after they use up the mythical pokemon of that generation (:skull: that was a mouthful but like. Latios/Latias in Pokemon Heroes, Lucario in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, Zoroark in the Master of Illusions, Mewtwo Y in the Genesect film, and Magearna in the Volcanion film)
and given we'll have a teaser of the film come December and we'll know more story details this time next year (details usually announced in April time) it's safe to say we'll get news soon to build up to this probably

I hated that wormhole thing or whatever in SM where you could just catch basically any legendary, like theres no reason except to complete the pokedex (idk who actually does this)

also I think the wonder trade thing has ruined gameplay a lot, because I get so addicted to trading all my pokemon before ive even done the first gym, It would be good if they could make it so you can only use it after beating the champion or something

Half an hour of gameplay for the Eevee/Pikachu games. I'm quite excited for it again after the original reveal left me with some concerns.

The pokemon go aspect seems relegated to just catching wild pokemon while everything else seems quite traditional. Pokemon battles against trainers are the same and Gym Leaders are back.

Weird name choices but I suppose it fits if they're basing the new region on the UK.

I had a thought earlier about whether or not they could introduce any new types but I'd be surprised if they did. I think they only add new types to balance things out a little. Dark and Steel were introduced to balance out Psychic in the second gen and Fairy exists to give Dragons a weakness and make Poison more useful. A new type would be fun to mix things up though.

I think if they do show off some Pokemon, we'll be seeing a new eeveelution, Eevee is basically a second mascot at this point so I think they'll give him something new.

-less pokemon from previous games! im sick of seeing them.. pokemon that are super rare in one game become common af in another.

-at LEAST 100 new pokemon, maybe even up to 150!

-maybe a couple of new evolutions for past pokemon (like they did in diamond/pearl) but only necessary ones.

-Z moves and Mega-Evolution to slowly be phased out

-a few new regional pokemon differences like the Alolan forms from last Gen

I think that’s just more due to the translation. Pokemon is known for having weird dialogue due to its translation. I’m quite shocked it’s so lazy for such a big licenced title lmao

64 wouldn't be too surprising, giving Kalos only introduced 72 original pokemon (although they also introduced 48 mega evolutions, so you could argue it was "120". Gen 7 brought us 88 new pokemon and 18 Alola forms, which brings it too 116 "new" Pokemon. 117 if you count Ash-Greninja So hopefully we see a number that's above 100, which is standard)

Of course, if there's only 64 new pokemon, they could round it out to a higher number using new forms (not seen these armoured forms, besides a news article saying "Armoured Mewtwo" was trademarked)

well I've not finished it yet, but I'm enjoying it, it's pretty much Yellow but simpler. I don't mind the Pokemon in the overworld thing, it's quite cute tbh. Though I don't like the catching mechanics, after my op I'll have temporarily (I hope!) reduced arm mobility so I hope I've caught everything I want by then, but either way having to flick the nunchuck/aim with the handheld mode is a bit annoying. The battles look good.

I think it's because of Gen 6's impact on the series

Gen 5 introduced moving sprites, which were outshadowed by the introduction of 3D modelled Pokemon 3 months later
Gen 5 introduced rotation/triple battles, which were removed 6 years later
Gen 6 made competitive Pokemon battling a lot easier too, which is where some of its praise originates from
(Note how I say Gen 6 and not Kalos because... Kalos was extremely underwhelming lmao)

Gen 6's Mega Evolutions and 3D graphics are still here 6 years later while some key features of Black and White have just. Gone. Objectively Black and White have a better story but in retrospect not much of Black and White's impact is felt in the series today. And I don't mean to **** on designs but a good number of Gen 5 Pokemon were uninspired imo (see: Smithy's post. I actually like the designs which usually come under criticism, e.g. Vanilluxe and Garbador, because they are original/have very loose inspiration from other Pokemon. The Pokemon aren't necessarily badly designed IMO, just... very samey and relying on nostalgia in a sense).

That said, I think Gen 5 was a certainly needed generation for all the reasons it was criticised for (I certainly needed a soft reboot of the franchise) but it's not a concept that shoud b revisited - not for a long time, at least. And this is coming from someone who tries to exclusively use new Pokemon to the region in my playthroughs (I never rely on Pokemon introduced from previous games)

Ash tried new tactics which ultimately fell through and paled in comparison to how great he was in DP (character wise and strategically, see: Counter Shield) and we saw him regress to Top 8 from Top 4. I fell out of love with the anime during the Black and White series but seeing Ash's progress in Kalos was great

The XY&Z anime was great to watch and even when I stopped playing the games, I found myself catching up on the anime

yeah i mean mechanics wise gen 6 brought a lot but both good and bad, like i remember tonnes of people complaining about how bad some of the designs looked when ported over to 3d. also I'm pretty sure the mega evolutions are being ditched like we haven't got a new one and its like the new games want you to forget they existed lmao (iirc you couldn't even get them in sun and moon and you can only buy them in that very end game battle tree thing in usum). gen 5 introduced a ton of things that were only really specific to its game like the gems, the music that plays when ur at critical hp (i used to love that <3) and a bunch of stylistic things that were put in to make a good game rather than to make the competitive format thats played by like 5 people more chaotic (i used to play competitive pokemon, its so messy lmao).

to me it just seems like a lot of the new games are really watered down and this was most apparent with gen 6 for me. I think nintendo are catching onto the fact that most of their consumers are less likely to pour a ton of time into a game in the age of mobile gaming and the internet where you've got access to pretty much everything gaming entertainment wise at your finger tips instead of you having like one game to complete. Its noticeable in a bunch of game series but I've played pokemon for longer and have noticed it more here. Pokemon has never been a hardcore game but yeah, there have been a few trends that have kinda soured it for me and it was most notable in gen 6 imo. anyway i truly don't remember much from the xy game either like i had to look up who the bad guy team was and your partner/rivals (weren't there like 4 of them that followed you around lmao). I only remember the packmen because they were relevant to the competitive format like aegislash, talonflame. I honestly enjoy these games when i sit down and play them but lmao what a mess!

i don't really watch the anime so i can't comment on that. I'm pretty sure literally everyone hates the bw anime tho if I'm not mistaken lol
