Stuart Blackburn has been appointed as the new producer of Coronation Street, succeeding current boss Phil Collinson in the role.

Blackburn, who has been working as Emmerdale's series producer since early 2011, will take up the position in January.

Collinson, meanwhile, will remain at ITV in a new role working with Kieran Roberts to develop new drama from ITV's base in Manchester.

Speaking of his new post, Blackburn commented: "I'm in the very privileged position of producing Emmerdale's hour-long live episode to celebrate the programme's 40th birthday, and I get to produce Coronation Street too. Life just couldn't get any better.

"Emmerdale is a very special programme to me, as I was born and brought up in West Yorkshire. I'm in total admiration of the cast and production team as they are all incredibly talented people. They do an amazing job and I'll be sad to leave them.

Last night's Corrie was amazing. The part in the cafe where Fiz was looking at all the bruises and scar Tyrone had were what got me most, also the episode did a really good job of showing what a day in the life of an abused spouse is like, usually we only see small clips from Tyrone and Kirsty, last night we got to see the whole day, with Tyrone constantly having to cover his tracks.

As funny as is, I do actually feel a bit sorry for Gail. Audrey was quite happy to carry on with the set-up that Gloria & Gail had planned for Lewis & it was Lewis that totally over reacted IMO... He was a con man who ripped off Audrey, then he continued to lie to her when they got back together & did a bunk when they were on holiday together, why should Audrey or any of them have trusted him?? And yes Gail was a wet blanket & stupid for falling for her mothers ex, but they were finished & Gail has been made a fool of & ripped off, so Audrey should have a bit of sympathy for her if you ask me...

Not to mention selfish David & Kylie, look how Gail has bent over backwards for them over the years, she has forgiven David so many times, yet when she needs them they couldn't care less!

Two separate endings for Tyrone's trial have been filmed.

I reckon the ending will still probably end up being leaked, the big three soaps tend to have trouble trying to keep some things secret, where as Hollyoaks can get away with it because they have less viewers and are the fourth ranked soap, but they normally have a clever strategy PR wise.

The directing in this episode was amazing, it felt you were in the thick of it, usually soaps tend to shoot the scenes from sort of a distance in the flames. Also I'm glad they learned from EastEnders mistake and stretched the fire out for three episodes. Can't wait for Wednesday.

Absolutely awful acting and stupid writing but it made me laugh so I enjoyed them.

Funny no one smelt the strong smoke on Karl, and that the fire spread everywhere but left a nice path for Sunita to go and have a lie down in the living room.

Yeah, it was during the shooting for the fire that Michael got arrested, he was meant to be filming some scenes the night they were filming too.

By the time he was in the Bistro ambulances were already there though, plus a there was two firefighters already on the scene, he wasnt needed lol

Tyrone wanted her to go seek counselling. Did she ever go to at least one? Also, Tyrone set up the counselling if I'm not mistaken, or she did, however, you have to state a reason as to why you want the counselling anyway, unless I'm wrong.
