View Full Version : *The Official BB14 Ratings Thread*

It's that time of the year again to start a new ratings thread as the launch date should be released later today when the schedule is out. Here we will discuss the ratings across the entire series and make comparisons to previous years.
We won't know until later what competition it faces, but if we are to believe that it launches on the 13th June. Here are the overnight ratings of the last two regular series:
BB12- 2.6m
BB13- 2.7m
I reckon it could reach 3m with the new presenter, ad campaign and changes. Let's not forget that CBB11 finished with 3.61m officially. How do you think it will rate? Up or down on BB12-BB13? Down on CBB11 launch?

I think we could just about get a 3 Million rating for the launch... just.

Couldn't this have waited till the schedules are out later? We can't predict anything with any accuracy without knowing what it's up against, so the first two pages are just going to be the usual tedious blind guesses based on nothing.

Well considering it's only competition of the night is the premiere of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model, it should get high ratings. I doubt that the majority of BB fans are also B&INTM fans too (although I am a fan of both) so it should get a strong viewing figure for Launch Night.

It's no big deal, just makes finding post-schedule predictions (with everyone making two, three if the schedule changes) and the first set of ratings later in the series a pain in the arse.

CBB8- 2.8m
BB12- 1.6m
CBB9- 2.6m
BB13- 1.8m
CBB10- 2.3m
CBB11- 2.8m
BB14- ?? (if it gets a 3m launch, I predict around 1.9-2.1m official).
Basically CBB11 was the best rated on Ch5 even though CBB8 also got 2.8m, BUT the launch figure for CBB8 bumped the average. So in terms of officials excl launch, CBB11 was the most popular. Good sign for BB14?

Quite impressive ratings tbf, hopefully bb14 will improve slightly on bb13. If it can do that then we will have another likely renewal the end of next year.

I hope they make the live feed an hour too. BOTS has finished at 00:15 and 00:30 before (and so have other shows, or even later) pushing the start of SuperCasino further back, so it'd be nice if they could extend the streaming and start SuperCasino at 00:30, or even better...01:00.
I'm happy we've at least got some on launch night though.

Hm, repeats might be a bit safer but I'm like you, I'm not really sure how the repeats rate although I've heard they can pull in a solid and respectable number. I don't know, might not be a risk worth taking.

They are nuts to launch on a Friday.
Really stupid decision.
There is literally no competition on Thursday they could have big numbers tuning in.
Friday and Thursday or safe I think Miranda and Mrs brown boys are repeats they don't get a lot of ratings and people will watch big brother this year I think CBB11 did well on the finale and If they do a lot of advertising these next two weeks they could get a lot of ratings and I am not worried about C4 there ratings have fallen since BB.
Also C5 big brother ratings have improved every year

They really did badly didn't they? That BB13 rating is less than the (official) series average, was it up against anything big? Probably being a little bit optimistic and ambitious with the finale, I'm basing on the assumption that this series will be as good as it's being built up to be and thus won't reflect the last generi-series and the 2 million average being maintained throughout, as the nightly shows tend (I think) to be few hundred k below the amount watching throughout due to some not watching some days and others not watching others. I do think it's possible, I know they're not really comparable but CBB11 ended on far higher than it's series average, but 2.3 is probably more likely.
*mazedsalv**
09-06-2013, 11:37 AM
We have to keep in mind that now most have Ch5+1 and more people recording it, the overnights could be around BB13 levels, but the officials could add a fair bit (look at how CBB11 added around 400-600k every night on timeshift). So overall it should be higher than BB12/BB13 in general. Also Ch5 have been doing better in 2013. Just look at CSI nearly breaking 2m incl +1.
Overnights prediction:
Launch (1)- 3.1m
Launch (2)- 2.5m
Final- 2.2m
Average- 2.0m

Momentum is the factor. BB13 was unlucky to be against the Olympics/Euro and numerous other events. The closing ceremony was on during the last HL show. The final was the day after and people may have completely forgotten about it. A HL show beat the final only a 3-4 weeks before.
I think CBB11 was a blip. It did surprisingly well, probably helped by the 2 most entertaining getting to the final 2 and the snowy weather.

When does that air
Same time as BB Launch.
Thursday 13th, 9pm on ITV.
Their promotion alone has been seen by millions more people with some simple ads on a prime time channel.

I think that new Reality style show "Happy Familys" could actually be some competition for BB.
Hopefully not too much. It seems like a show which would get around 3m.

a few hundred k below the average*
Momentum is the factor. BB13 was unlucky to be against the Olympics/Euro and numerous other events. The closing ceremony was on during the last HL show. The final was the day after and people may have completely forgotten about it. A HL show beat the final only a 3-4 weeks before
Forgot about the Olympics, that said I don't think BB12's finale didn't that much better, they don't seem to rate well in general these days.
I think CBB11 was a blip. It did surprisingly well, probably helped by the 2 most entertaining getting to the final 2 and the snowy weather.
Well it wasn't the housemate selection was it .

BB12 final bounced up more than BB13. BB12 final got 2.1m overnights, sadly BB13 got 1.7m or something.

Then perhaps I wasn't as over-predicting the finale as I thought. What was the overnight average for BB12 again? 1.4mish?

Overnight was 1.4m or 1.5m, it only went up 100k-200k in the officials. But when you compare that to CBB11, it time shifted over 500k in officials.
I think we will see big time shift boosts for BB14.

I posted this on DS, please, I hope some people agree with me. In response to someone saying that people didn't know it was back.
if people were really fans, they must know that it's back. It's been on every summer for 13 years, you would think that they aren't that slow to understand that. Doesn't take a lot to look at a TV magazine. On Ch5 it's been promoted very, very well. It's just a shame Ch5 is not the most watched channel. Twitter is buzzing at the moment surrounding it. Also Facebook. But a I said some people are very slow and quite thick. Some people asking on FB, "when does this start" just underneath a "2 days to go" video. I mean, seriously.

Fair enough if they don't have the BB page liked, but for those who do, there shouldn't be an excuse. They upload the how many days there is to go ad, but even underneath those videos, people still ask when it's coming back!
Also Dan, if you can, can you FB chat me when the ratings come in? I will be at work and can only really check my FB because it's faster to load than here or DS.

Yeah that's actually ridiculous.
But the BB facebook page only has about 250k likes yeah so anyone outside that would literally be relying on word of mouth to know when the series is back.
Channel 5 have done an amazing job of the house but their promotion has been shocking.
Like I said on DS BB is back in 52 hours and not 1 advert has been advertised outside Channel 5.
This is why the summer CBB do poor aswell to be fair so you would think they would advertise the civilian one to get ratings for both.
Shocking.

Before the show started due to the lack of promo I was thinking and dreading around 1.8m - 2.2m
But during the show and even after it it's been trending and even Moyles was watching it (and other people I follow too, both celebrities and people I know that wouldn't usually), I think Emma's the main draw. Taking all that into account I'd love a 3m+ rating but I'm gonna be realistic and say 2.4m - 2.8m.

Wow that's bad, worst main series launch yet. Unless it has some amazing retention or surge of interest now, that's this series chances of averaging better than the last two's gone. This is why C5 should be focusing it's promotion budget on the main series and not the celebrity one, the celebrity series doesn't need it, the main series obviously does.
I was a little worried when I saw Horizon outrend it first the first hour, but having a different audience (or so I thought) I didn't think it would dent BB as much as it did.

Do C5 do what other channels do and have a 'final' rating later on?
So this one is the 'overnight' rating and then the 'final' rating includes on demand views and those who re-watched it.
BBC do that and they always have a huge boost of numbers from the overnight to the final ratings.

I literally thought it was only going to get about 1.7 so pleasantly surprised.
Last night didn't seem like another launch so im not really treating it as such therefor it doesn't seem like such a bomb lol.
The good thing is the casual viewer would usually have switched off after Thursday after seeing who was going in but they either came back or BB has a stable audience of 2 million people who will allways watch.
Would be brilliant if tonight could get around 1.6 but I think it will be below the 1 million mark.
Anyone know what BOTS and live feed got?

There is no way the series will average 2 million.
For that to happen it would have to get 2 million per episode or higher seeing as launch only got 2.13.
Tonight is a Saturday which is allways the lowest rated episode and im expecting a drop off after launch so its very possible it could dip below 1 million.

As I tried to tell Frow that time slot was never going to work and you saw his reply that's all he was willing to give. Was never going to muster the numbers say a much later slot would get.

They should do what C4 did with the final series of BB. Have 24/7 feed online. Do something at the start like 100 free 'season' passes and then charge a season pass at £10-£20 a go. Would probably work far more in their favour than putting 2 hour feed on tv does.

These ratings just make me depressed :( that 5* figure is awful but what do they expect when there's been no ad for it or even any mention of it on the live shows (and I actually think it's deliberate so they can turn around and go 'we told you so'). I'm pretty sure it'll be axed in a couple of weeks if it continues and that will **** me off to no end, there was no promise that the two hours would be for the entire series regardless was there? So I'm sure when the next schedules come out it'll either be reduced or axed, UGH.
I'm so disappointed with the launches ratings too but again with no promo and it'll likely be saved for the millionth series of CBB what the ****ing hell do you ****ing expect? So no doubt either next years civilain series will be axed or it'll be the last and we'll be subjected to yet more z-listers being wheeled out for what is supposed to be the once a year lighthearted spinoff and is now becoming the overexposed main attraction. FFS, it makes me so angry, disappointed and upset.

I was thinking exactly that yesterday. I remember the first time they introduced live feed on 5* after evictions, Brian would always advertise it at the end of the main show. However, now, they stick it on 5* during prime time 7-9pm and make no mention of it whatsoever. If I wasn't a member of TIBB or Digital Spy I wouldn't even know the show was back on TV, let alone that there was live feed every night. So stupid. I'm convinced they want it to fail.

I read on another forum that someone said the average overnight audience for 5* between 7-9pm over the last few weeks (excluding BGT week) has been about 85,000 viewers. So yesterday's c70,000 for the BB live feed isn't too much lower than the slot average and a little improvement over the next few days could put it in line with the slot average.

Ahh I know. Horrible number to see. Only good thing is that those people watched 45 mins of HLs, so maybe that could keep people hooked as they got to know them a bit.

I actually really like her. She's no Emma but she's far, far better than Rylan is. Yes, she's got a strong accent but I can understand what she says fine.

Not suprised the 7-9 live feed did terrible. I don't think there's been any mention of it on the show?

There hasn't, and there's clearly a substantial demand for it as it does a lot better in the late night slot

Its not her accent its the fact she completely says the wrong words lol.
She cant read autocue.
She cant read it fast enough and instead of saying the real words some how words that rhyme with whats actually on the autocue come out instead.
I don't know how to explain it.

She'll improve, this is her first live gig. Most her previous work was quizzing celebrities from cue cards. Hopefully tonight's psychology show will be more suited to her experience (being, I assume, interview based).

Should be noted that it's (only just) higher than the first Saturday HL's of BB13

Jemal
16-06-2013, 09:40 AM
So will the producers/channel 5's decision on keeping bb alive depend on how different and better this series has been in terms of ratings to bb13?
*mazedsalv**
16-06-2013, 09:49 AM
I reckon this series could be a grower too. It's a good sign that it's above the first Saturday of BB13 and possibly the first Sat of BB12 (what did that get?). Tonight should be 1.6-1.7m.

Would be amazing if I woke up one morning to check the ratings thread (as sad as that sounds) and an episode had hit the 2 million mark.
I would cream.

Just to say, the first Sunday show of BB13 got 1.48m overnights, I am pretty sure that tonight will beat that.
Jemal
16-06-2013, 10:06 AM
Not really sad lmao. When i wake up in the morning and im having a lie-in the first thing i do is check my iPhone. Whether it would be forums, twitter, bb app etc etc. so your not alone:)

could be some of those fans who 100% decided not to watch after the Conor farce last year will come back when they hear things are different this time around.
Think you are right about it being a Grower launch night ratings mean little because so many drift away just 2 days in always making the "slump" look more dramatic.

CBB10 managed an increase after a few days, but then dropped again in the last week. Also, CBB11 increased slightly throughout the run. So, it is possible.
Look's like the ratings will hopefully stay above 1.30 million
*mazedsalv**
16-06-2013, 10:12 AM
Look's like the ratings will hopefully stay above 1.50 million
And if the officials add around the same as CBB11 (500k on average), it would be at 2m official. That would be so good.
LIVE FEED ONLY GOT 70K
Jack_
16-06-2013, 10:25 AM
Two 70k figures in a row isn't bad, at least it might be consistent. I'd prefer it to be around 100k each day though so at least it's above the slot average, I am really worried they're gonna cut it back or axe it within a few weeks.

wasn't even 70k by the looks of it.
Updated numbers were 56k then 8k on +1
only issue I have the live feed should just compliment the main show Ratings shouldn't be playing a part in this but sadly they are. I would me much happier if they just streamed the 2 hrs (or more) online and they can do whatever the hell they like with 5*
almost everyone agrees even the 2hrs has given this series a much needed depth if C5 are stupid enough to ignore that yet again :bawling:

No, that figure was for the Friday's one, not yesterdays feed.
So to sum up:
Friday Live Feed at 7pm- 64k
Friday Live Feed at 11:30pm- 446,000 (excl +1)
Last nights show- 1.36m
We still don't know yesterdays LF for 7pm. It's for sure the slot which is letting it down, I mean if the late night half hour can almost get half a million incl +1...
JohnnyBB
16-06-2013, 11:37 AM
good news that the shows up 130k on last years first saturday hopefully next week we get 2.0m that would be good hopefully, this years definatley a grower.
Surely if Gina was trending worldwide on twitter last night,
The figures will pick up once word gets out about her?
Didn't figures improve in Denise Welches series when their fight happened,'through word of mouth?

Not really, just on the night because lots watched on +1 on that day. But seeing as she trended worldwide that people want to see what the fuss was about.

Damn, I forgot how strong the competition is at 9pm tonight.
The White Queen on BBC1 and The Returned on ITV have both been hugely hyped. I probably expect over 7m for BBC1 and over 5m for ITV. Damn.

The Returned is on Ch4 so I guess it makes it better than being on ITV.
But The White Queen will do very well!
Edit- No idea The Returned started last week and it got 1.5m including +1, so I don't think it will be much competition, it will probably be 1.4m. So, hopefully if people watch The White Queen at 9pm, they can +1 BB.

alot of people, like myself, didn't realise that it was just the french series with subtitles... I thought it had been remade for the uk. I turned off halfway through because of this and I expect a lot of other people would of to. Don't think it will be much competition.

Miss Marple is on ITV too, which gets between 4-5m all the time. And people are predicting The White Queen to get over 6m. I really hope BB can get over 1.5m with all this competition.
Seeing on Digital Spy that yesterdays highlights got 1.2 million on Channel 5 and then 1.36 million on +1...so what, yesterday's highlights got 2.37? Is that right?
