Great start to the weekend. Liverpool and Rodgers very much back to the norm. Good stuff.
Liverpool just aren't a good team anymore, comical defensively like last season but no prolific attack now to balance it out. Still don't really buy the Newcastle resurgence considering how badly all their oppo has played recently but fair play to them
Now to do over Stoke

He has been ridiculously good, up there with the best players we've ever had, we are basically a one man team at the moment.

Theo back from his injury, what a great afternoon this has turned out to be
What a day, we come back from 2-0 down to get a hard earned draw and Forest Green came back from 3-0 down with 25 mins left to draw 3-3
This day will henceforth be known as comeback day

If Smalling had not been sent off I really think we could have at least got a draw.
My only hope is that LVG can now see just how bad Smalling is & get rid soon.
We need an entire new defence in January but I doubt that will happen.

As for RVP..
Smalling has never been good enough for us.
LVG needs time to repair the damage done over the past couple of years.
I know defeat to City at any time is awful but I really believe LVG knows what has to be done.
We are only half a team right now.
Rodgers has screwed up Liverpool & their progress last season buy not buying a World class striker.
We have a fantastic strike force but they can't play freely knowing how shoddy our defence is.
I still think top 4 is possible but January is the key right now.

I watched this guy for YEARS at Arsenal and if you're' happy with him then you haven't seen enough of him.
If kolo plays 5 games in a row he'll have at least one absolute stinker and probably make mistakes in at least two of the others so I'm hoping Rodgers makes those changes.
Locke.
08-11-2014, 03:20 PM
I would completely agree with you if he was currently behind two competent centre backs in the pecking order, but he isn't. Skrtel and Lovren do the exact same thing, if not worse, that you have just mentioned.
GiRTh
08-11-2014, 03:26 PM
Surely things cant be that bad.
Wenger get criticised for the players he's let go ie Vieira, Nasri, Fabregas, RVP even Pires and many more but no one ever places Kolo Toure on that list. Possibly the best sale ever by Wenger to get rid of him before other clubs realised he's sh*t.

Can't see Pellegrini still in the City job after this season. Be lucky if he lasts that long really when basically their only chance of silverware already is the FA Cup, they've never been that convincing under him either
2 pens we should have had today

They were destroying teams left, right and centre last season. We just had that early blip with away performances because he didn't give them enough credit. We were convincing then tbh.
I don't know why they are playing like utter **** rn but it's frustrating. They've basically done what they did the season after they won the title last.

Bored of slamming Arsene now, but its the same old **** every game.
Still can't believe we have a CB playing RB and a LB playing CB with no other defenders on the bench. We weren't dominating & scored from a counter, 1-0 lead away from home and he doesn't change anything. Still piling the midfielders forward with no thought of any defence. A man that calls this balance between midfield and defence an improvement.. how is that possible. Sanchez won't stick around with this ****.

16-11-2014, 10:20 PM
Depends on if Herrera is fit still after his rib trouble. Might have to put big Marouane in at centre back at this rate. Smalling is back, but Blackett has hardly had a look in since he was sent off. Smalling may face the same fate.

Dreading the game. Wenger's best chance to win a big game without doubt. Arsenal firm favourites it seems. Shortening at Paddy Power all the time. Our defence could possibly be Valencia-Smalling-McNair-Blackett.

If Arsenal dont win then they should sell everyone and start again.

CARRAGHER: Have you seen Jack Wilshere play in the holding role? We usually have someone in England in that position who goes bang, bang, bang into tackles, not like you or Busquets, Kroos or Pirlo. Could it be a step forward for English football to have a player like Wilshere in that role?
ALONSO: Why not? Before there was Michael Carrick. He had the game intelligence. If you had combined him with other players, maybe he would have been an important figure in midfield.
Xabi, what a guy.

List all the managers who are in the Prem and rank them in order in terms of the job they've done over the past 5 years. Where does Wenger fall on your list? 2nd? Top? He's in the bottom half on my list. He is not getting the best out of the resources available to him and many others could do just as good a job. I dont agree that only one or two managers could do better

When you take into account the style of football managers play, can they attract players, what type of players they've signed in the past then i'd say Martinez and Ronald Koeman would be the only two realistic managers in the league that could manage us. The third id have is Mourinho but thats not even a realistic option, or an option at all. Who are these 6 or 7 you'd have?

Poch is good but Koeman has made Southampton even harder to beat now despite selling their 2 best defenders last season and Spurs are crumbling at the back now so i'm not all that sure he'd make us harder to beat. Wengers done a better job than the rest of the names mentioned too.. we went through stages of having Bendtner, Chamakh, Squillaci, Djourou to name a couple who all played regularly and we consistently finished in the top 4.. but with this current squad top 4 shouldn't be an achievement at all. I would be done with football if we were ever linked to anyone like Hughes or Lambert.

Lamberts job at Norwich was sensational in comparison to Wengers predictable season every year.
I really dont buy that only one or two managers in the wrold could do better. I think many managers could od juyst as well.
You mention BEndtner etc, but what about Song, Van Persie, Cesc, Clichy, Nasri. Five players who were all playing for us less than five years ago were sold and went on to win a championship at the club they went to. I'm not talking about one or two players I'm talking about 5, half the regular side from a few years ago. Please tell me why none of those players were ever involved in a serious championship run during their time at Arsenal but went on to win at another club. Wegners had the players and supporters need to stop making excuses for him. OK we can say Barca were already a championship team before those players joined but Man City werent and Man U had just lost the league when they bought RVP. Wengers is running out of excuses. He's had players that are good enough there can be no doubt about that.

I'm not denying hes failed in the past 5 years but you were comparing him to Hughes and Lambert. When we start comparing him when he was up against the likes of Fergie & Mancini a few years ago then yeah he failed miserably. It's no wonder they all won trophies. RVP left during his prime & went under the greatest manager, Nasri & Clichy joined one of the most expensive sides in the world and Cesc & Song joined one of the best sides i've ever seen.

I stress again that we are talking about HALF of the team from five years ago. I don't get what you're trying to say. Do you think Wenger hasn't had players who were good enough? I'm not really sure where you're getting that idea from considering i've been agreeing with you about his failure (apart from disagreeing Hughes and Lambert have done better with their squads), i've said he's failed in the past 5 years with the squads hes had overall though.
But you can't compare City or Barca to the squads we had at the time. Yeah we had some great players but that also came with a bunch of mediocre players like the ones i mentioned earlier.. RVP's back up was Chamakh, we've had Djourou and Squillaci playing at the back, Coquelin playing in midfield with them, Andre Santos at the back a few years ago too. They moved to clubs where they are surrounded by World Cup, Champions League or League winners. Thats been Arsenes biggest **** up and is currently the most annoying thing about him.. he gets half the squad correct, then refuses to fill in the missing gaps to give him that title challenging squad. It's no wonder all our star players want to leave.

You mention Squillaci and Santos. Two more huge Wenger ****** ups. I feel like posting my - Gary Cahill should be an Arsenal player rant - that I;ve posted on here a few times. Of course Squillaci was the dead beat Wenger signed after his p*ss taking bid for Gary Cahill was turned down my Bolton and as for Santos he was one of the panic buys after the 8-2 thrashing by Man U.
The litany of charges against wenger is growing every year - The players he's sold and never replaced, players he's made p*ss taking bids for, his lack of tactical acumen in big games, his stubbornness. He has done a poor job over the past few years.

Deserved win, destroyed them at times.. think they only had one shot on target? Much more solid in defence with Kos back & Gibbs keeps getting better. Love the physical hold up play having both Giroud and Welbeck up top. Girouds link up play between the wider players is great. Not sure whats happened to Ramsey, his touch has completely gone and hes become ridiculously selfish.
Wenger does himself no favours though. Plays Santi out wide constantly where hes useless.. Finally gives him a few games in the middle and hes turned into one of our best players. Then takes him months to finally decide to change things about being hit on the counter and we come off with 2 clean sheets in a row. If he does things when they need doing & gets rid of this stubbornness then things would be so much better.
