I can't wait for the Doctor and Davros tonight
That sig

Who was the magician and who was his/her apprentice?
I'm not very up-to-date with metaphors.

That was amazing

Great episode, loved seeing The Doctor and Davros talking for once, it's so nice to have two parters back, it no longer feels like everything is crammed in.
Also, lol @ Clara being a Dalek again.
Glenn.

I thought it was fantastic. I hope these hybrid daleks are a thing now.
Lostie!

I really liked it. I LOVED Davros' double-cross. More fool me, but I actually fell for his "poor me" routine, which made the switcheroo all the more satisfying.
Next week's looks brilliant, looks like a good old creepy one. :hee:

I thought it was much stronger than last week's episode but they should have just done a feature length instead, they could easily have cut most of last week's episode out and it wouldn't have affected anything.
I hope we see Missy sooner rather than later and I'm hoping they don't go down the predictable path and have her in control of the hybrids and acting as the main antagonist of the last two episodes. I'd much rather see her pop up throughout the series as a morally ambiguous friend rather than just an all out enemy.
Scarlett.

I agree, The Master is so much better as a sort of fremeny, lol. I agree about the start of the last episode, the plane thing took up too much time.

The Magician: The Doctor
The Witch: Missy/The Master
The Apprentice/Familiar: Clara
That's how I read the titles anyway
The rugby clash was not kind to Doctor Who last night. 3.7m - it's lowest rating ever!!
Ross.

tbh doesn't Doctor Who have a huge number of hits on iPlayer anyway, I think we'll be seeing that figure rise considerably

The first two episodes were repeated this afternoon on BBC1 in an omnibus edition.

Why were the Thals glossed over? One mention of them as 'the enemy' is not really good from 'superfan' Moffett. They could have done so much more with the revival of Skaro and its history. It was still good though
Glenn.

6.54million watched the first episode and the overnights for episode 2 are expected to be higher.

Yeah, Doctor Who frustrates me sometimes when it opens itself up like that but then the episode is confined largely to two rooms.
But I suppose it's filmed in Wales so there's only so much they can do.

I find the problem these days is that you can see they blew the budget on one large set piece, so that leave no money left to film elsewhere.
In other new... The breaking new was, a new spin off! http://bbc.in/1FLvTEu
It's not Torchwood but the BBC commissioning a new spin off is a step forwards.

I hate how Doctor Who is now aimed mostly at tumblr users and fanatics. All these cheesy lines and the Doctor suddenly being unfamiliar with the concept of death as a recent example. The writing isn't great at all and Capaldi could've been so much better than this had they not gone down the "mad man in a box" route again. I'm truly disappointed in Moffat.
Marsh.

Doctor Who isn't that cheesy these days. Just go back to 2005/2006 and you'll realize how far more adult it has become recently.
Next weeks looks good... I liked tonights episode but it ran a bit flat in parts and felt like the writers did a bit of stretching to cover the airtime. It was enjoyable though, felt more like proper Doctor Who (not that I hated the opener story).
I don't mind the sonic sunglasses for now, it's alright for a novelty and a little joke at wearable technology catching on in our culture. I can see a screwdriver returning at some point this series though, probably a newly designed one since the Matt Smith one looked a bit ridiculous and large (looked almost like a joke toy tbh), not very fitting for Capaldi who is generally a darker and more serious doctor compared to Smith's incarnation.
Also did anyone else think Clara was going to die at the end of the episode? I was expecting her to die from a ghost or die in the flood, and there be a running death theme with her this season (Rory Williams teas).
Marsh.

No but it always has and always will have the cheese element.
Missy is pure cheese. The Doctor's sonic sunglasses. The one liners. Cheesy in a good way though.

I'm really enjoying them, it's so nice not having everything solved by the screwdriver at last, and the glasses are actually working in a way that makes sense, rather than a screwdriver that can do everything from unlocking doors to hacking a Dalek.
Really liking having two parters back, single episodes are good sometimes, but they can get a little frantic.
Scarlett.

If you'd have said that during S5,6 or 7 it would have made a lot more sense, with the fez, bowtie, custard ect.

I think Moffat is just aiming the show towards proper fanatics rather than general fans of the show.
Scarlett.
03-10-2015, 09:20 PM
I think Moffat is just aiming the show towards proper fanatics rather than general fans of the show.
I'd say the opposite, in S8-9 it feels like he's trying to mesh the show back with the original series more and more. S5-7 felt like he was trying to hard to appeal to fanatics IMO.
I thought that was a great episode tbh. The ghosts were really creepy. I kind of saw the cliffhanger coming but it didn't make it any less effective. I'm guessing it'll be The Doctor inside that chamber thing.
Scarlett.

I thought it was okay but I still think the show needs a shakeup. It's getting kind of boring now.
Getting rid of Moffat would help at this point, he's taken it as far as he can go and it's time for a new showrunner and a new direction.

Not many people watch dramas when they air anymore. Look at the soaps, they're lucky if they break 7 million on a regular basis because a lot of people will opt to watch them in their own time.
Judging a show's worth or popularity by it's overnights is silly when a majority of people will watch things on demand. Pretty much the only thing I'll watch live is films on Sky Movies if I happen to catch one I want to watch. I'll TiVo everything else or watch it on demand.
The viewership is still there, it's just the way that people watch shows has changed. The fact that Doctor Who has a stupidly large international fanbase will likely ensure Doctor Who's future by itself if the UK viewership wasn't there.

Weakest episode of the series so far. I loved the Doctor rocking it to the opening theme though, lol. Also, nice to see RTD's era getting references (it really bugged me that Moffat acted like they didnt exist in S5-6). The Fisher King was pretty underwhelming, but it turned out that he wasnt the main point of the episode.
Can't say I understood the ending but meh it was entertaining.
The fisher king looked and sounded awesome.

I thought that was the best episode so far this season. I'm intrigued about this 'War Minister' business though, I'm guessing they'll end up being this season's big bad. I think I know how Clara will leave too. She's travelling with the Doctor to run away from the fact that Danny's dead so I think something will cause her to face his death and deal with it and then she'll leave because she'll see that travelling with the Doctor won't help her in the long run. She'll outgrow him basically, I think.

The War Minister thing sounds very interesting, sounds like it will be related to earth somehow too. The Clara stuff is interesting, all through he run it seems that he thing is that she is slowly becoming like The Doctor, would be interesting if Gallifrey did return and she was made a Timelady.

What about series 7b which was almost a love story between Clara and Matt's Doctor, especially if you look at the You Tube videos shipping them. One wonders what would have happened with series eight if Matt Smith had not decided to leave after series seven.
With that in mind, was a love interest story between the Peter Capaldi Doctor and Clara considered too left field, leading them to bring in the Danny Pink character.

I really enjoyed that actually - but I don't get why next week's episode needs to happen if that makes sense. It just seemed like a very self contained episode that introduced a new story strand that could be picked up later, I don't see the need to continue it next week?

Ashildr said that the tattoo was a contract and while it was attached to Rigsy she could take it back but when Clara took it, the old contract was thrown out of the window which meant that Ashildr had no more power over it.
I think Clara's deader than dead but I think she'll turn up in the finale as a different character since she was scattered all over time in Season 7 and they'll bring that back up.
I think what's going to happen is that he'll meet the new Clara and then she'll want to come along with him but he'll turn her down because of what happened to Clara, he'll think that he made her the way she was and that her death was his fault.

It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy.
King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is?
All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time.

I really enjoyed this episode and for me it tied up more loose ends than most Moffat finales (we finally found out why Missy chose Clara). I loved when the Doctor played Clara's theme on the guitar, and every scene on Gallifrey was excellent. Hopefully they revisit 'The Woman' (in the barn) at some point in the future, and I'm certain that we'll be seeing more of Gallifrey in the coming years. Still not entirely comfortable with the idea of the Doctor forgetting Clara, although it does make sense that he could not even bear to remember her, and the fact that Clara and Me are roaming around the Universe in a Tardis cheapens her exit somewhat for me. Still, glad they didn't completely reverse it and she'll still have to face the raven someday.
Overall, an enjoyable and satisfying end to what has been my favourite series since 2010.
