You really don't understand do you you idiot!
If it was getting 1.8 million viewers you would focus on that regardless of the share, as everyone else would. You are just grasping at straws to defend how badly this show is doing this year. A situation that will be repeated again next year the more people on here defend this mess.
Will.

No I wouldn't because 1.8 M with a 5% share is crap!

Doesn't a low figure with a high share just mean that people aren't turning their TVs on to watch Big Brother, which isn't really very good?? Like I don't know the first thing about viewing figues so I might be wrong but I would've thought that 1.8m would look more attractive to the channel and advertisers than 1.1m regardless of what the share is.

It's worth more to them than 900k with a 6.8% share.

That's what I thought too.
The %age share doesn't define the series average. It may be getting a 8% share or whatever. But that still makes it the lowest ever rated series of BBUK, not only on Channel 5, but in the history of Big Brother. In other words least watched series ever.
Those shares just show that TV viewership is down, not that Big Brother is doing well. If Big Brother was doing well, it would still have the loyal 1.6m viewers that it had during 2011-2014. They've lost about half a million of that.

Don't rise to it - just put him on ignore like I have. Hopefully he'll be banned before very much longer, seeing as he's been asked by a mod to just make a thread for his negative bollocks instead of cluttering up this thread with it and he's ignored it.
If you had put him on ignore how did you know who he was talking to? lol
Someones telling porkies.
Anyway another crap rating.
Nikki doesn't belong in a show getting a tiny viewerwship she is way to big of a character she belongs on IACGMOOH she was th made for that show.

I just think they should kill Civvy BB, TBH.
It's never going to be good again.
They had a good run during 2012 and 2013. But ever since the rise of CBB, the quality of the Civilian series has dropped. Anyone else notice this?
It needs resting not killing that would be fair on the 1m loyal fans who still watch it myself included

a) You can still see people you have on ignore if they're quoted.
b) You can choose to view a post if you want.
And trust me, I'd know.

I agree tbh. Civilian BB has had its day. They should just scrap it for a while.
I think the general public generally cannot be bothered with 'real people' shows created in this 24 hour daily show format. It was a nice novelty 10 or so years ago although viewers just aren't dedicated enough these days.
'Celebrity' shows seem to still have a wide appeal so CBB certainly still has a place on Channel 5. Probably time to see the back of civilian BB though.
Jason.

It needs to follow Love Island and take a break for ten years.
Love Island is how real TV show take breaks.
Maybe 10 years is too long. I'd say about 5 is enough.
Jason.

let me tell you this
Netlifx,Amazon prime on demand thing, Online downloading are all up compared to 5 years ago hence why the shares combined with ratings are similar to compare 5 years.
Lets take a week for you guys to make sense of how TV habits are changing cause I said this a week ago in the same post I said big brother needs few years break. agh.

Alternatively they can recognise that it doesn't work without the live coverage and develop a good website to host it.

How can you be dedicated to it when it is impossible to keep up with? How can you be dedicated when you the viewers are as confused as to what is actually going on as the HMs.
People really should stop pretending that the BB format is tired when the BB format was turned on by Channel 5 from the start.

It won't. Even if the figures go up, they're only there for a week. And it's not like they can go on repeating such stunts.

I doubt this week will bring in much viewers.
4in4out didn't bring much viewers. I think this week will get around 1.5m, and then it will go back to 1.1m again, next week.
The +1 figure was pretty substantial last night, it was at 957k without it - people clearly not aware it started at 9 and then it was probably ever so slightly dented by Love Island too - mind you, that only got 357k :hehe:

4in4out got just about 1.4m.
So I don't see why tonight can't rate higher, especially considering that the ratings are slightly higher now, than they were pre-4in4out.

Depending how much it gets spoken about on social media I could see tonight getting around 1.5-1.7m
Out of the line up of oldies though only Nikki will help with pulling in any new viewers.
TFI Friday will dent it hugely I would think. 1.2m would be my prediction. Think there's football on somewhere as well.

C4 won the slot last night - God knows when that last happened. Fair play to them.
+1 should in theory be large but 1.2m is what I figured it would get anyway. Putting Helen in is a very risky move.

I expected 1.2 for BB, totally didn't see 3.6 for TFI, I watched a few minutes during the breaks of BB and thought it was utter carnage, just seemed messy and a lot like Kids TV like SMTV or something, nonetheless, c5 have themselves to blame sticking almost solely to online marketing, it's cheaper but not always the most clever idea.
Jason.
13-06-2015, 12:22 PM
Yes, keep blaming Helen for the low ratings.
That's why her series averaged 1.6m, and this current series is averaging 1.2m.
In all fairness, last night was always going to rate badly.
C5 really need to promote. They actually suck crap at promotion and advertising.
It's like they come up with an idea, and just execute it straight away, without letting everyone know. They only started showing Timewarp teasers like 12 hours before the show, and only on Channel 5, too.
If they were smart, they would've advertised it throughout the entire week, like they did with Armageddon, instead of the day before.

It didnt put off people who watched the last CBB which was the highest rated one on C5, so that theory is false. Clearly most casual viewers really enjoyed bb15 as much as it got hate on this forum.

They didn't. Hence the reason so many people were up in arms at the result that they even had to release the voting figures to prove it to be true.
The fact is, the shows ratings were down last year and are down again this year.
The celebrity series is a different kettle of fish. Firstly, the January show always does better and secondly, it depends on the housemates they've got.

What I'm trying to say is I dont think Helen is the reasons ratings are down
I think she's a big part of it. If you think what the ratings for secrets and lies were like (pushing 2m at times) and the fact that Ben Frow said he was happy with the ratings for Power Trip which did perform OK despite all the competition from the sport and look now...people were not happy with Helen. There was uproar to the point that Channel 5 were forced to release a lengthy statement detailing the voting numbers for the entire of the final night because so many people cried fix.
This year has had sod all competition for the most part. Yes it was on earlier in the year, but if people doing GCSEs were really the issue, the officials would be adding a LOT more onto the overnights than they currently are.

it had huge competition from channel 4, there new drama at 9pm got 3.9 MILLION!!!! Biggest opening for a drama since like 2004!!!
TOWIE got a very low 500k considering it has mass advertisement, ads for it in huge prime time ITV breaks.
Love Island got 350k.

That's pretty promising. 1.35 compared with last series 1.5 doesn't make it feel overly poor. I get ratings aren't where they should be, but at least they're consistent dipping above and below the million mark each episode in overnights. I'd like to think this series could achieve at least 1.4m in officials, however that'd be highly tough given we're half way through and 3 relaunches has done little to boost things. At least it's holding it's own against some strong competition!

I have a feeling Humans success will be short lived. It'll always beat BB, but remember No Offence, that got something like nearly 3m viewers on it's first night, and it's last achieved something just above 1m. The same for Raised By Wolves, nearly getting 2m for it's launch, dipping to about 800K for the last instalment.
I actually enjoyed Humans on catch-up though am I the only one who thought it was seriously drab compared with what was expected? Like yeah the storyline was good but I wasn't gripped enough, there wasn't much visual attention, so I turned to #AskEmmaWillis

Poor Love Island.

BB is doing well though. Looks like that 4in4out actually boosted ratings. Kind of annoying, as it ruined the series for me.

Would Big Brother benefit from an even later timeslot? Looking at Secret Story 8 in France, most of their prime time shows achieved something like 1,700,000 viewers on average, well down on previous series, yet it held shares of 18-22%, compared with BBs 1,100,000 and 5-7% shares. Both countries have a near similar population and a near similar TV viewing audience, yet Secret Story is on at a much later time than BB (of course, it's higher ratings does help, but a near 15% increase compared is huge!)

All you've done is give us an example of why shares don't mean a thing. In a later time slot Big Brother would get lower viewing figures but a higher share.

Did Salv write the wiki entry for last year's Big Brother?
With a series average of just 1.57m, this is the lowest ever watched UK series, both from Channel 4 and Channel 5. However, it has to be taken into account that it was up against the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2014 Commonwealth Games, which dented ratings on many occasions. On the other hand, the series launch attracted nearly two and a half million viewers, up on last year's series. On 15 August 2014, it was confirmed during the final that it will return for its sixteenth series, on Channel 5 in 2015.[6]

If Big Brother was on a 'bigger' channel then it could work. On Channel 5 I doubt it would work out, I could see a later timeslot doing more damage tbh.

Bearing in mind that Made in Chelsea and Love Island couldn't reach 400k at 9pm last night, I don't think 1.1m's all that bad. At least it's consistent.
I think exam season's nearly over too, for anyone who was using that as an excuse for the low-ish ratings.

This series has. They can respond to the criticism like they did after series 4 and have good run with the necessary changes or they can kill it off altogether.
Paying the likes of Pamela Anderson to appear on the main series instead of using the money elsewhere was the first of many mistakes they've been making year after year.

In all fairness, a Saturday show in BB12-BB15 would usually get 1.1/1.2m excluding +1 anyway. Sometimes even more.
So it's not much of an achievement in general. But by BB16 standards, it's a decent rating, considering all the Saturday Highlights have gotten less than a million this series.

It may be higher excluding +1. But if only few watch it on +1. It will rate 1.07m overall. Let's say.
That's not as good as say BB15's Week 5 Saturday, which rated 1.26m

In all fairness, a Saturday show in BB12-BB15 would usually get 1.1/1.2m excluding +1 anyway. Sometimes even more.
So it's not much of an achievement in general. But by BB16 standards, it's a decent rating, considering all the Saturday Highlights have gotten less than a million this series.
it beat most of 15 and 14 Saturdays I think
Nobody watches Saturday Love Island.
It's a recap episode showing us everything from the past week, which we've already seen.
It's basically one week in one episode.
I don't bother tuning in to it, as I've already seen the stuff.
I think it's on for another 4 weeks.
4 weeks? Every day? Wow. That'll be interesting by the end :joker:

No, not everyday.
There's no show on Friday. And Saturday's show is irrelevant. So it's pretty much on five times a week.
Sundays-Thursdays.
Not here for the LI shade. :nono:
The ratings looks bad in comparison to BB. But it's not like this series is getting BB14 ratings, anyway. BB16 is also flopping, so taking the piss out of LI ratings is a bit hypocritical when most people who do are defending a 1.1m including +1 rating for a BB highlights show.
Plus, LI is far more enjoyable than BB16, IMO.
The fact the legends are in there for another week, just shows how dead this series is, that they are using Helen Wood of all people to keep it alive.

Interesting that Thursdays show with Pete Bennet and the other old HMs returning is Demand 5's most popular show atm, so hopefully that'll suggest that little week including Saturday's rating would see a small boost, hopefully upping the official from 1.42 to 1.45?

Ah ffs why have you started piping up again you had calmed down a tiny bit the show has been really enjoyable the last few weeks ive been proper enjoying it.
Why are you still even watching? Like its taking up sooooooo much of your time it seems.
You are on these forums all day every day moaning about how crap the show is im being serious do you not have anything better to do with yourself pal other than watch a "crap show" and complain about it on a forum for most of your waking hours?
Its a a bit sad.
I usually spend loads of time on the forums but I haven't found this year as appealing or enjoyed it as much as previous years hence my absence im not gonna sit here and waste my time everyday saying how crap it is I moved on when it was **** but I got interested again when the legends went back in and im loving this series now and caught back up with it all.
I would go as far as saying now I look forward to the episodes like I used to with BB14 instead of feeling like I have to watch out of loyalty.

BB fans are celebrating the rating because only weeks ago the Saturday episodes were getting like half a million lol so its gained about 600k.
LI deserves "ratings shade" god I hate that saying its cringe because its doing terrible!

It's a shame more people aren't. They may actually try doing the things that need to be done to change it. But some are actually praising them for this. So you'll probably get more of the same next year.

Love Island got 400k (2.0%)
BB wasn't that far off from beating BBC One which only got 1.5 M, BBC One coming third in the slot is pretty poor for them.
BBC 1 - 1.5 M
BBC 2 got 940k
ITV got 6.2 M
Channel 4 got 3M
Channel 5 got 1.17M
all at 9pm

Quite a bit of competition last night.
That BBC drama at 9 must be one of their biggest flops ever.

Good to see C4 doing really well. They really are thrashing Chavvel 5 these days.
No suprise really as they invest in developing their own shows and movies rather than just relying on throwing money at external production companys.
Its not long ago people on here were taking the piss out of C4 but those herberts have gone very quiet now :joker:

Their premiere for Humans was their best rates drama since 2002, they haven't exactly got a lot else to cheer about.

To me, it's about where it needs to be. It's still Channel 5's highest rated show but it's considerably lower than previous years, especially BB14.
My only concern is that figures having gone up slighty will convince them that 4in4out/Legends/More interference are the keys to success. It's quite depressing to think that they still might not think they have anything to change next time round.

That chunky 1.55 is nice for Sunday, I agree, it's a shame twists like 4 in 4 out and the legends thing brings in those casual viewers as imo it's unnecessary for the series and just lowers the standards of the show evermore as Trash TV.
Jamesy
23-06-2015, 02:12 PM
4in4out and the legends didn't really bring in many more casual viewers. We've had a 200k rise at most for most nights. I don't think it's quite the raise in figures C5 was hoping for, and personally I don't think either of the big twists have helped the series in any way.
Jason.
23-06-2015, 02:16 PM
I hope these twists like 4in4out and the legends, which have bumped up ratings ever so slightly do not make the producers think that it's what we want, and encourage them to do more crap twists in future series to keep ratings up. When realistically, they just damage the show.
Jake.
