Jermaine feels the strain...

Poor old Jermaine. The growing tensions in the House are taking their toll and now even the calmest housemate is beginning to crack.

Coming to the Diary Room to talk about last night, Jermaine confessed that it was he who had really caused the problem between Shilpa, Danielle and Jade.

"Danielle had too much to drink and she was hanging all over me and I was like 'hey, I didn't come in here for that'. So I asked Shilpa to go and sit with her. My intentions were good," he explained.

"Shilpa is too wise to come between a friendship. I think Danielle's youthfulness provoked all this unintentionally. Shilpa is balanced. She knows how to handle ups and downs. I'm not here to change anyone's life. I'm not going out of my way. That's what Shilpa did and it got her into trouble."

Good thinking Jermaine. But he revealed that wasn't all that was eating him. When Big Brother asked if he was enjoying his time, he was reticent.

"The best things were the laughs with Leo. It's hard now."

Don't worry Jermaine, we're sure Big Brother has something up its sleeve to cheer you up...

I'm just irritated by all of the negative opinions on shilpa...she hasn't hurt anyone, she wasn't racist, she came from a different continent, not too familiar with eveything, away from her mom...being bitched at by jade and danielle and she's coping with all of this...it's just sad.....

Jermaine and his kinda 'Jackson 5' - Shilpa, Cleo, Dirk and Danielle, took on Ian and his Step-ettes - Jade, Jack and Jo. And then it was down to you to vote for the winning band.

Thousands of you cast your votes, we counted and verified them and can reveal that Jermaine and his band have been crowned champions of the Big Brother Battle of the Tribute Bands. In fact, it was a massive triumph for them, as they received a whopping 75% of the votes!

As a reward, Big Brother provided the winning band members with a special gold disc - and all of the housemates with a Jackson 5 themed party, with outfits and everything! They were given a lovely spread of chocolates, fancy fruit, beer, champagne and er, fish, and they wasted no time in getting stuck in.

And as an extra special treat, after Big Brother had announced the results, the winning performance by the Jackson 5 tribute band was shown on the plasma screen, so Jermaine et al could relive their champion performance. Cheers and laughter broke out, and all Jermaine could muster was: "Oh, God!"

But in the past 10 days we've shared stories of past romances. We've shared moisturisers and a face-pack. We've even dyed our moustaches with (her) cream bleach. She's taught me how to cook at least three Indian dishes. She's given me a pair of fantastic shoes. Jade's mum Jackiey hated Shilpa and constantly referred to her as "The Indian" which I found horribly insulting. Jackiey made life purposely difficult for Shilpa - shouting at her for no reason, criticising her cooking, attacking her for being bossy.

Most of the time Shilpa kept her cool because, as she says, in India you don't shout at your elders - you try to show them respect, a word Jackiey clearly doesn't understand or deserve.

THERE was a point where Jermaine and I were frightened Jackiey might physically attack Shilpa.

But the funny thing is there were days I actually liked Jackiey. I saw her vulnerability. I knew she'd had a difficult life and was jealous of Shilpa (who wouldn't be?) but her way of handling that was cruel and unnecessary. And I fear for Shilpa now because its obvious Jade is hell- bent on giving her a hard time.

Will the dust have settled after last night's dirt throwing..?

Jade and Shilpa are sleeping as quietly as sweet little lambs this morning... but there's a tossing and turning that betrays a restless sleep.

It's little wonder, given the extremely prickly 'discussion' they had before bedtime, when Jade decided to confront Shilpa on why she thought she wasn't being "genuine".

"Is she fake? Is she real? Is she playing a game?" Jade wondered aloud.

"One minute she's cuddling Carole, stroking her hair, 'you're great, I love you,' the next minute you're whacking your hand up to get her out." Jade said to Shilpa

"This is a game. I have to play the game if I'm here," explained Shilpa.

"Exactly!" said Jade, proud to have caught the game-player red-handed.

"I am playing the game by the rules, I am not playing any mind-games," protested Shilpa, adding: "There is life outside this House."

Just when you thought this argument couldn't go anywhere else, it took an unexpected turn.

"You shouldn't take things so personally, like when someone says your chicken's pink," said Jade.

"It's a totally different thing, it's not about the chicken thing," retorted Shilpa, exasperated that her sub-standard poultry was returning to haunt her, yet again.

"It's my fault," Shilpa sighed finally, but Jade wasn't letting her off the hook that easily.

"You always say that because it's an easy way to close the conversation," said the Londoner. "I think you need to take a step back."

That was about as much as Shilpa could take, even trying to take the blame hadn't worked and she burst into tears.

"I'm not going to on purposely make your upset," said Jade confusingly.

"I'm not upset," whispered Shilpa, as she hid in the corner of the room doing a very good impression of someone fairly devastated.

Wonder how things will be between them this morning as the housemates start to rise..?

If you wanna make the world a better place...

"It's turning into that film 'Lord of the Flies'," remarked Ian to Jermaine this morning. Whether it is quite that bad or not, the House does appear to be gradually splitting into two rival factions.

The two early-rising pop singers are stuck in the crossfire between Jade's crew and Shilpa's gang - but the ever-passive Jermaine seems to have picked his side.

"How are you?" Ian asked him tentatively, in the way you might ask someone who's pet hamster had just died.

"I'm... ok," replied Jermaine, unconvincingly, as talk inevitably turned to the ongoing girl spat. "Were they bullying Shilpa last night?" he asked.

"Yeah," confirmed Ian. "I'm not playing those games. I'm not going to be part of it."

"She should whip out some of that kung fu," said Jermaine with uncharacteristic venom. No prizes for guessing which side he's on...

"They have their club," he said of the three-girl posse he has termed 'Jade's crew'. "Maybe it's an age thing," he mused.

When Shilpa emerged, huge sunglasses doing their best to hide a harrowed demeanour, she received words of comfort.

"Jade can't read you because she's not on your level. It's like going to a meeting and it all going over your head" said a visibly annoyed Jermaine. "You have to stay true to the person in your heart."

"This will make me into a stronger person," opined Shilpa optimistically, but the bleak mood could not be broken. Unless something changes, there is trouble ahead.

Danielle's got big concerns over just how much exposure she's getting...

Being unsuccessful in a task can only mean one thing - basic rations! And if that wasn't enough, Danielle's gutted about getting a little more 'exposure' than she bargained for.

The embarrassment of having to complete Big Brother's Red Carpet Assault Course with her bra on full display seems to have really got to Danielle. Surprising really, considering she's a model, but none the less she got a proper grump on about it all.

"I'm not happy... my dress has come down," Danielle explained the frightful experience to Jo as if she hadn't witnessed it.

"We didn't ask to wear them dresses. It's not your fault... I wouldn't worry," Jo assured her.

But Jo had more pressing matters on her mind, a week on basic rations. "I get really grouchy if I don't have any food," she spat.

Jack wasn't too thrilled with the prospect of plain food either. "Lentils, what are they? Seeds? ******* off! I hate things like that! Bird food!" he moaned.

While her housemates were concerning themselves with dinner, possibly their last OK-ish one for a week, Danielle was still obsessing. "My boobs were out. I was trying to hold me boobs as I was climbing up the rope... the whole thing came down," she told anyone who would listen.

Then, forgetting about her incident just long enough to fret about basic rations, Danielle burst into tears. "I like to be at home and eat when I wanna eat!" she whined. "

London, Jan 16 (IANS) Indian actress Shilpa Shetty may appear lost and out of depth as she prepares half-cooked chicken on the reality show "Big Brother", but desi voyeurs in Britain have flooded broadcasting authorities with complaints of racism by others in the house against her.

Britain's broadcasting watchdog Ofcom is investigating nearly 200 complaints about alleged racism against her even as strong opinions are being expressed on Asian radio stations and websites in her support. Asian radio station Sunrise received several calls on a phone-in on Sunday from viewers, complaining about racism against Shetty.

According to her fans and fawns, the long-legged Bollywood stunner is being targeted by some housemates because she is Indian and is being described in what can be called unparliamentary language.

Big Brother housemates Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara seem to have ganged up against Shetty in the past few days. Shetty has become the subject of snide and biting remarks because of her hauteur and background as the heartthrob of millions of Bollywood fans.

Channel Four, which broadcasts the popular reality show, has said that her treatment in the house is "girly rivalry" and that it would not tolerate bullying or racism.

Shetty's housemates have often referred to her as 'the Indian', and some have found it difficult to pronounce her name, poked fun at her accent and asked her if she lived in a shack.

An Ofcom spokeswoman said: "We have had approximately 200 complaints of racism. Quite a lot of websites have been discussing the issue and urging people to get in contact with us. We will look into each individual complaint."

Speaking to the BBC Asian Network, evicted housemate Carole Malone said she believes the incidents were motivated by jealousy.

"Shilpa is too good looking for her own good. She's an incredibly powerful and beautiful woman. She is a very strong woman and can handle it.

"I spoke to her about it when I was in the house. Shilpa feels that she represents the Indian/Asian community and doesn't want to let them or herself down by retaliating".

The Evening Standard reported that producers of the reality show held an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss whether comments made to Shetty could be construed as racism.

An unnamed source told the paper: "Shilpa was not called a '****'. If the producers thought that anything that was said was overtly racist, the contestant who made the remark would be out.

"Shilpa is no shrinking violet and is standing up for herself. But producers are very concerned about the situation and monitoring the housemates very closely regarding this issue."

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 said: "We do not tolerate bullying or racism in any form on Big Brother."

Former Big Brother contestant, Herjender 'Gos' Gosal said: "If people are too ignorant to learn a bit about other cultures, and make an effort to pronounce someone's name properly then that is racism. It's sickening to watch.

"Some of these so-called celebrities should know better and if I was treated like that during my time in the house I would not stand for it and demand the producers take action.

"Unfortunately conflict gets producers higher ratings, but it shouldn't be at the cost of offending the very community you are hoping to appeal to by putting a Bollywood star in the house in the first place."

Shetty's manager, Jazz Barton said: "Britain is a multi-racial society and this shouldn't be happening on a reality show like Big Brother. I've raised my concerns to the producers.

"Just because Shilpa is beautiful, articulate and intelligent, people feel threatened. When they took the mickey out of her accent, I thought that was unacceptable. She may have an Indian accent but her vocabulary is better than a lot of the other contestants.

"Shilpa has worked hard to get to where she has - not found fame from simply being on a reality show. I really hope the public show her support and vote to keep her in, because she is a decent person.

"I've spoken to Shilpa's mother who has heard from friends in the UK, that Shilpa is having a tough time of it, and is facing a lot of hostility - she is quite upset about it. I would like to see how Channel 4 are going to handle this.

"I applaud the people who have phoned Ofcom to complain - maybe it will make the producers take a strong stance on this."

2,000 complain over Big Brother 'racism'

The number of complaints about alleged racist bullying in Celebrity Big Brother has shot up to 2,000, it was revealed today.

Channel 4 viewers have flooded media watchdog Ofcom with emails and calls protesting about the treatment of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty by fellow housemates.

The number of complaints rocketed from 200 which had been received by yesterday afternoon.

A show spokesman said: "The social interactions and dynamics of the group are one of the key parts of the Big Brother story and viewers have a right to see these portrayed accurately - however this is balanced with our duty not to broadcast material that may cause unjustifiable offence.

"We take this matter very seriously and Big Brother does not tolerate bullying or racist abuse in any form. Big Brother is closely monitoring all the housemates and will take appropriate measures to reprimand such behaviour where necessary."

An Ofcom spokeswoman said: "We have now had around 2,000 complaints. They are coming in a continuous stream.

"We had a similar number of complaints about the last series of Big Brother when Nikki was allowed back into the house and people were furious that they were having to pay to vote for the same person twice.

"But if things continue at this level, by tomorrow this is likely to be the largest number of complaints ever received about a Big Brother series."

Last night's show featured more scenes of housemates Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara allegedly picking on Shilpa.

The trio mocked Shilpa's attempt to roast a chicken and initially refused to eat it, claiming she had not cooked it properly.

Jo did impressions of Shilpa's Indian accent and complained that the actress had touched housemates' food with her hands.

"They eat with their hands in India, don't they - or is that China?" asked Danielle, adding with a sneer: "You don't know where her hands have been."

Housemate Ian 'H' Watkins became so upset by the trio's treatment of Shilpa that he fled to the bathroom in tears.

The ex-Steps star said in the diary room: "I'm just a little disappointed in Danielle, she's been saying some really nasty things to Shilpa and just expects Shilpa to forget them.

"I just think she's being influenced by Jade. Jade's a lovely girl as well but I really think she isn't playing fair to Shilpa. Jade should know better.

"There's a lot of name calling and petty things, and its clearly school ground behaviour. It's almost like bullying, and it's really, really unfair."

Allegations of racism first surfaced when Jade's mum Jackiey moved into the house.

She repeatedly referred to Shilpa as "the Indian" and refused to pronounce her name properly.

Jade's letting off some steam in the Diary Room...

Jack doesn't like Shilpa; she's been annoying him. How do we know? Because Jade told us so.

It's not hard to see why the House's quietest tenant doesn't talk much with Jade around. She does enough talking for the both of them - and now she's even doing it in the Diary Room.

"Shilpa's getting on Jack's nerves," the London lass told Big Brother. "She's not his cuppa tea. She keeps whispering to Jermaine and it's been doing his head in. He thinks it's rude."

Well we're sorry to hear that, Jack - even if you've chosen to express your emotions through this novelty ventriloquist's act.

Like a meddling mum barging into the headmaster's office, Jade continued to speak for other people in the House saying: "When he [Jermaine] wanted cloves of garlic in his food she wouldn't let him, she is so controlling."

And it's not just Jack who's getting irritated by the Bollywood star, as Jade added: "Her screeching is getting to quite a few people, it's driving them mad." Then she did an impression of Shilpa screeching.

Unsurprisingly, Jade tends to agree with her boyf's view and said: "There's more to Shilpa than meets the eye, she's got an agenda. She says she's being herself but I think she's fooling people into thinking she's that type of person. It never seems sincere."

Jade reckons she would try to heal the rift but claimed: "Whenever I speak to her she just cries," concluding: "She's doing my nut in."

And Jack's too, no doubt...
