Strictly 2021 Weekly Discussion Thread

I did feel sad for Adam because he's shown improvement in other weeks.
It's sad none of that is considered in a dance off.

Although I had Adam last of my own personal list and I'd not have saved him over Tilly who had a much harder dance than the jive.

I still just cannot see the point of doing the same dance again in a dance off which ONLY the judges get to decide on by in effect voting on the same dance TWICE.

Why there cannot be set dances they grab the basics of which both couples can then do in the dance off, I don't understand.
To be judged more fairly and not on the dance that perhaps hasn't been their strongest.

For instance, IF you had a couple last on the leaderboard with the judges, then in the dance off up against a couple higher on the board possibly nearer to midway up the board.

Really, what REAL chance does that couple at the bottom have to improve enough to overturn that scenario.

I love Strictly but the Judges inconsistencies of comments over voting, then getting to decide who goes on a dance they've already voted on.
Makes little sense to me or to being entertainment either.

It's a good show, in my view hampered by the 4 judges.

AJ is my second favourite. If Rose was not there I would definitely vote for her.

Don't really like the others enough to vote for them.

This is what I feel too.
I do like her and Nikita has put in some really good content in the routines.

Here however just over halfway through, for me already thinking, it will be an unfortunate end to this series, if after all their incredible routines, that AJ, John and Rose weren't the last 3 standing.

Good luck to them.
Everyone has tried their best however, even the ones who are weaker dancers.

No, I don't think it's rigged.
They have been in my view the consistently good performers with exceptional routines.

I don't even think of Rose not being able to hear, her performance in the routines are really good, whether she could hear the music or not.

There have been strong and excellent routines from others too in some weeks but not as in all, like for me, in my own view only of course, AJ, John and Rose have been.

If in fact, they were the last 3 standing, for me that would be the fitting result for any series.

I do however think, the Judges can manipulate what happens as to at least one contestant in the bottom 2.
Plus then engineer the outcome of that by who they save.
Plus their voting is erratic.

I'd hazard a guess that so far, AJ, John and Rose have been in the top 5 of the public voting most weeks.

It can't be rigged, HOWEVER by the judges voting, plus the dance off then only the judges deciding who goes.
That scenario gives way too much influence and power to the 4 judges.
That's really my only gripe with Strictly to be honest.

My first 4 way above the others.
The second set of 4 could have had all the same marks from me, nothing really between them.

1. Rose and Giovanni. (Just beautiful).
2.Rhys and Nancy, (great).
3. John and Johannes.(I don't like the Samba but this was full of energy and I'll take others word for it, that it looked fun).
4. A J and Kai, ( the Paso is a very hard dance).

5. Dan and Nadiya, (basic but better).
6. Sara and Alijaz,( did her best).
7. Tilly and Nikita. ( Just didn't work tonight for me).
8. Tom and Amy. ( Sorry but it was, only just, the weakest performance tonight for me).

1. AJ & Kai (+1) - A very good performance. AJ is showing herself to be the best dancer on a technical level imo.
2. Tom & Amy (+5) - Again a really strong dance. Definitely my favourite Tom dance.
3. Dan & Nadiya (-2) - Obviously he isn't the best dancer in the competition, but I just find some of his dances fun to watch.
4. Rhys & Nancy (-1)
5. John & Johannes (Non-Mover) - Technically a decent dance, but I'm not really very big on Rumba dances tbh.
6. Rose & Giovanni (-2)
7. Adam & Katya (-1)
8. Tilly & Nikita (+1) - I forgot that she had even danced for a moment.:laugh:
9. Sara & Aljaz (-1) - No offence to Sara, but Aljaz just dragged her along the dancefloor. Clearly the weakest dancer left in the competition.

The Paso is hard, the lighting wasn't helping a bit.

Actually, I recorded the routines.
After seeing they did the silent part on Rose's dance.
I thought after that I'd play all the routines back early this morning but took the music off, just watched the routines with no noise.

I got a whole different perspective of the dances.
Not listening to or distracted to the song but only focussed on the dancing.

Yes however, I liked AJs too.
I felt it harsh of the judges to score her so low.

I think that there must be something in Sarah's contract that stops her from getting fair critique from the judges because they even say more negative things about Tom (who in fairness is the biggest name in this series) than they do about the fact that Sara gets dragged across the floor every week.

Imo I feel like Sara is the weakest dancer left in the competition, I know that a lot of people will say Dan is weaker, but at least he can attempt moves by himself.

In what was in my view the weakest musicals week ever with some awful song choices.
I wouldn't have given more than 7 to anyone.

My placings then.
1. AJ and Kai ( the waltz was lovely).
2. Rose and Giovanni. ( Not their best).
3. Rhys and Nancy. ( At least it had life to it).
4. Tilly and Nikita.( Okay I guess).
5. John and Johannes.( Ridiculous song for a more serious type of dance, sad to see this).

Then my 2 least liked tonight.
6. Tom and Amy. (It just felt empty to me, sorry).
7. Dan and Nadiya.( I think this is the very first time ever I've been bored by a Charleston on Strictly).

4. Dan & Nadiya (-1) - I thought that he actually did okay tonight, of course he isn't the best dancer in the competition, but I felt like he actually did American Smooth moves which is an improvement technically over some of his other dances.

8. AJ & Kai (-7) - Her first slip up of the competition imo. Hopefully AJ will do better next week if she stays this week.

4. Tilly & Nikita (+2) - It was better from Tilly imo, but a 40/40? That means the judges are saying that it's better than John's Paso, AJ's Charleston & Argentine Tango, and level with Rhys's Charleston, are they really sure about that? They might wanna have a rethink about that.:joker:
5. Rhys & Nancy (-4) - Definitely some synchronicity issues imo, I personally feel like it would've been much more up my alley if they could've fixed that problem imo.
6. Rose & Giovanni (-3) - I know that I'm in the minority on this one but I'm really sick and tired of Rose keep doing Disney-esque dances, and I just want a week where the Show treats Rose like a normal contestant, I asked of this from JJ last year and never got it, so if for some reason any of Strictly's production team are looking at posts on this Forum, please listen to me about my criticism towards Rose. She's gonna win anyway so why can't she have a non-Disney themed dance and have a whole VT, routine & judges comments that just comment on how she danced rather than on other aspects? Rose is a nice person and a decent dancer, but I am really resenting the fact that she's allowed to do the same dance over the last few weeks. I pulled up Ranvir last year for being repetitive so I'm gonna do the same to Rose.
7. Tom & Amy (-2) - No offence to Tom as he seems like a nice guy (and he had a great Paso imo) but again he does tend to just blend into the background which I can't stand when watching Talent Shows.

I like to stay consistent with my opinions on contestants so if anyone feels like I'm being unfair to any of the contestants then I'll definitely try to take it on board.

Plus I don't think any of the routines ended up connecting with the song choices.

AJs waltz, well there's not much you can do with a waltz so it stood out for me a bit more, despite the awful song choice there too.

Thinking of all the musicals there are, if this was the best they thought of, their judgements were poor in my opinion.
As to songs and roles to play.

AJ & Kai: hmmm it was beautiful yes and danced quite well too, but still Simon & Kristina have my favourite edelweiss waltz routine 9

Rhys & Nancy: didn't notice the mistake myself, i thought this was a perfect Jive, very good to see the variety in kicks and flicks despite it being so fast 10

Tom & Amy: no offense but i just hate most Les Mis songs, only one i like from those is Bring him Home, this was dull, and indeed agree with Cynthia it lacked storytelling, and as with contemporary you indeed gotta finish up each line and get emotion through each movement which was lacking here 6

Rose & Giovanni: solid and good fun quickstep, haven't seen one bad dance from you my lady 10

John & Johannes: a big no for me, i am getting tired of the switching of roles, have no clue at all who played the man and women here, while with Nicolas & Vadim, you had Vadim taking up the role of the male lead in the ballrooms, and more freestyling in the latins and all out of hold routines, beginners mistake from Johannes but hoping you get a second chance for the same-sex partnership as for this performance, it looked a bit weird and indeed very flatfooted 5

Tilly & Nikita: where on earth did that CARTWHEEL move come from, indeed agree with Shirley also couldn't tell who was the pro and who was the celeb, this was great 10

Dan & Nadiya: great swivel action, very impressive lifts again same as last week, good fun routine, but still capturing the right amount of class, style what Gene Kelly basically oozed himself too i enjoyed this a lot 9

Rhys wasn't repetitive at all, very fast yet technically very good dance and i personally did not see any mistakes


Tom's wasn't technically good, contemporary dance its basics are storytelling, getting emotion through each move, extending every line

They've said it 2 weeks in a row Nicky.
Commenting on John being really good as the leading role but that he needs to develop and get stronger in the following role.

They said it last night again.
John and Johannes are the first all male couple in the UK series.
These judges are expecting to see them switch roles in a routine.
So it's not their fault that they do so.

If they ever didn't..
The judges, these judges, would then say, we're disappointed as there was no alternating of roles.
That's what they're looking for in part as to this pairing..

And I agree with you about John getting held to different standards compared to Dan and a few of the other contestants still in there, his Viennese Waltz isn't a classic, but they seriously tried to say that Tilly was 8 points better on the night, and I'm sorry but how was Rose's dance on the night better? Rose has been better than John some weeks, but this week was not a 5 point gap in her favour imo.

And obviously Dan and Tom only being 1 point behind him is on a technical level a joke.:joker:

John and the AT, well could again be one big mess, since in that dance too you are very exposed in terms of techniques, and also the leading and following roles


Tilly and Samba might suit her well, since she is quite short, i can see her picking up the bend knee hip action quite well hope she has a good song

Personally I don't think either Tilly or John have had a big mess.
In fact I don't think any have.

The ONLY person I felt didn't really dance was Judy sadly.

Obviously some dances don't suit.
Some routines are not so good as to content.

However, over this series there's been incredible routines.
For me Johannes has created really strong routines throughout.
I've never seen a mess in any of them.

In fact to be fair to all the contestants, they've given their all in the routines.

Of the 6 now left, I'd say only Dan hasn't impressed me as much as the others.
HOWEVER he too hasn't made a mess of anything it's just for me his routines haven't been as challenging as some others.

He's in the last 6 and well done to him on that.

What was wrong on Saturday for me was the songs sounding a mish mash of songs for the routines.
Neither married up for me.

I've watched them again and do feel this was the poorest of musicals week on Strictly.

That's not the contestants fault it's the fault of those dictating what music and what musical was used, plus the expected dance too.

Anyhow, good luck to all of them left now.

It's for me, now only about who gets to the final.
Since I think the public have decided they want Rose for not only the reasons of dancing, which she's done really strongly, however the public are behind her for other reasons.
Plus I think the Judges hope she wins now too.

So it's just for who joins Rose in the final show.
There's still over the whole series, one dance I hope to see again in the final.
As I rate it the best thing I've ever seen on Strictly.
That is John and Johannes with their brilliant Paso Doble.

That for me is the only routine and performance which warranted top marks.
Which only Craig failed to give.

This is a strong year for contestants, some really good entertaining and impressive routines.

Until last week, musicals week, where really I didn't like anyone.
Except for a very good but safe waltz from AJ.

I've been thinking and a thought said to me from someone else made me think, yeah this isn't a bad idea.
I now think I'd like Strictly to have the judges comments and advice as per usual.

HOWEVER, their marks not revealed until the results part of the show after the public have voted too.

This series particularly for me, the judges comments have shown at times a big disconnect with the actual votes they gave.

It's not going to alter much, HOWEVER the judges influence on that leaderboard, BEFORE the public have voted would be gone.
If the results of Judges votes weren't revealed too until afterwards.

Because for me it's the judges who are now really ruining Strictly.
With their more and more inconsistencies.

Because there's times the judges comments are all positive, where their voting doesn't reflect that.
Plus vice versa too.

I think the public should make their own minds up from what they see.
WITHOUT the sort of ' leading' scoreboard of the Judges actual marks reveal beforehand.

It's called the results show, for the Sunday night..so reveal then, the results of the judges scoreboard then.
Followed by the overall results with the public votes added.

Not knowing who the judges had at the top or who they had at the bottom too.
I agree it could throw up interesting results too.

A better week than last week in my view.
A very easy top one for me.

1. John and Johannes.(Brilliance).

2. Rose and Giovanni.( Was pleased and surprised how good she did this).
3. Tilly and Nikita.( I don't like the Samba but she put massive effort into it).

4.A.J. and Kai, (liked it a lot despite this placing).

5. Rhys and Nancy.( Seemed to fade, it was nice though).
6. Dan and Nadiya.( I honestly cannot remember it, sorry.).

To me I felt like this week was really dull apart from Dan's performance, but here's my rankings.

1. Dan & Nadiya (+3) - It was the only dance that I found fun this week.
2. AJ & Kai (+6) - A competent performance from AJ, I'm just not a huge fan of the Waltz personally.
3. John & Johannes (-1) - It was okay imo. John is clearly more of a Latin guy though so it'll be interesting to see what he does if he is still here next week.
4. Tilly & Nikita (+2) - It was better from Tilly imo, but a 40/40? That means the judges are saying that it's better than John's Paso, AJ's Charleston & Argentine Tango, and level with Rhys's Charleston, are they really sure about that? They might wanna have a rethink about that.:joker:
5. Rhys & Nancy (-4) - Definitely some synchronicity issues imo, I personally feel like it would've been much more up my alley if they could've fixed that problem imo.
6. Rose & Giovanni (-3) - I know that I'm in the minority on this one but I'm really sick and tired of Rose keep doing Disney-esque dances, and I just want a week where the Show treats Rose like a normal contestant, I asked of this from JJ last year and never got it, so if for some reason any of Strictly's production team are looking at posts on this Forum, please listen to me about my criticism towards Rose. She's gonna win anyway so why can't she have a non-Disney themed dance and have a whole VT, routine & judges comments that just comment on how she danced rather than on other aspects? Rose is a nice person and a decent dancer, but I am really resenting the fact that she's allowed to do the same dance over the last few weeks. I pulled up Ranvir last year for being repetitive so I'm gonna do the same to Rose.
7. Tom & Amy (-2) - No offence to Tom as he seems like a nice guy (and he had a great Paso imo) but again he does tend to just blend into the background which I can't stand when watching Talent Shows.

I like to stay consistent with my opinions on contestants so if anyone feels like I'm being unfair to any of the contestants then I'll definitely try to take it on board.

Tonight's interesting for me as I feel like I've got my favourite dance of the night, my runner-up dance of the night and who my bottom two dances were on the night, but my middle two are practically a draw with each other.:joker:

Anyway here's my rankings.

1. John & Johannes (+2) - A phenomenal dance from John, it should've been a 40 imo.
2. AJ & Kai (Non-Mover) - There were mistakes in the dance here or there, but overall I thought that she had a technically very advanced routine on the night that was very impressive for the most part imo.
3. Rose & Giovanni (+3) - Not her best dance, but I like the fact that she tried to give a different vibe to one of her dances for a change. Strange Music for the Paso though.
4. Rhys & Nancy (+1) - Again like with Rose I commend him for trying to do something different, but it was only an okay dance for me personally, him and Rose had different problems and strengths in their dances that held them back for me this week.
5. Dan & Nadiya (-4) - It was better than I was expecting from a Dan meets Rumba dance, but he is definitely behind most of the pack at this stage of the competition imo.
6. Tilly & Nikita (-2) - Sadly this dance didn't work for me. In fact I was cringing so hard at certain points of the dance, that I couldn't even look at the screen properly. If she does go through this week then hopefully she'll do better next week.

Rose & Giovanni: very strong efforts, great performance for me personally, dramatic enough for my liking, agree with Gio either that this must've been very difficult for her considering most of the time she comes across as smiley, happy person, this was undermarked 9

Dan & Nadiya: totally agree with Shirley here, latin dances you need to move grounded, surprised Craig didn't know this, also his hip action what i saw looked okay, don't know what Craig was talking about, hip action can only be done one way, agree with Cynthia too he finished those lines beautifully, this was decent for a beginner with one of the hardest dances 9

AJ & Kai: did i enjoy this, yes and no positives first so what i liked were all the various technical details, she executed each movement with a feeling perfectly, what i didn't like, a little bit too jazzy for my liking, but that is just me, and this was a stunningly performed routine for someone who has never danced before 10

Rhys & Nancy: overmarked for my liking, this wasn't bad, but not great either just down in the middle, great choreo though by Nancy 8

Tilly & Nikita: same as with Dan, having had a very difficult dance, this was great for a novice, i loved the bend knee movements they looked gorgeous, decent hip action, a smile throughout from her which is also what i always want to see someone enjoying every second of every routine where you are allowed to smile in, some bits she really looked like a diva, sambalicious my darling sambalicious 10

John & Johannes: FINALLY John you have arrived <3 this tango argentino was on same levels of fabness as Nicolas & Vadim their tango, sorry craig stealing your line ''A-MA-ZING'' 10

It was a really powerful routine and John in the main led in it.
It was one of the very best Argentine Tango routines I've seen on Strictly.

They've done 3 truly in my view spectacular routines over the weeks.
This one, their Charleston and what remains for me, the best thing I've seen on Strictly ever.
Their Pirates Paso Doble.

I still think and hope it will be John, along with AJ and Rose in the final.

They are the 3 as near perfect pairings there could be in this series.
However, 2 pairings will only be there to make up the final.
As I firmly believe the public, who are the ONLY ones who decides who wins.
They have already decided weeks ago, their winner is going to be Rose this series.
