I wish he would turn the tables on Beth and demand that she explains why she attended that illegal party ..
Maybe he’s just too nice as I’ve said before
Yes she went off-air for a while
Beth has just asked SEVEN ... “ just one final question “ !!
..: and still she continues ...
Starmer would have stopped this interview after her first “ last “ question

She paid the price for breaking rules. In that case we should suspend every member of staff who attended those parties then.....including Boris. You can't have a pop at her for breaking rules and paying for it but completely absolve Boris et al of any blame

He’s explained his situation quite eloquently whilst Beth went knowingly to a huge Birthday party and stayed there for the duration .. remember Kay Birley was suspended for 6 months . The two were even photographed embracing, which the political editor has since apologised for.
The two events can’t even be compared tbh
##
The journalists, among a reported group of 10 party goers, attended the upmarket Century Club in Soho, central London, for Burley’s 60th bash. Burley and Rigby were also photographed embracing outside the venue in a breach of social distancing rules.
She later apologised for breaching Tier 2 restrictions that night, admitting she “should have known better”.

The people who made the rules broke the rules. You're quite right, it is incomparable. Boris should resign and not be suspended. He effectively set the rules that made thousands of people die alone.....whilst drinking wine and cheese with many others invited to the drinks evening. I honestly cannot comprehend how anyone can defend it. Whatever anyone else was getting up to.....Boris sanctioned people to be arrested for sitting on a bench during lockdown but you can quite happily brush over his rule breaks. Considering how anxious you have been of the virus I am quite shocked by your acceptance of this whilst we were living under draconian rule

Its comparable because at the time of this "25 minutes at an afternoon garden party" it was illegal to mix socially in groups. A law that Boris brought in. They were encouraging people to report rule breakers meeting in gardens.....whilst having a jolly good time themselves. Its hypocritical of the highest order....and illegal. My own dad didn't see a soul during that first lockdown as he didn't want to break the law.

he could do, but if he stays as leader he will lose the next election and thats a lot of new tory mp's out of a job, so i think it very unlikely.

Maybe he thinks he can
turn it around.
If he gets the Whole party backing him
he has a last chance.
Of course, he can also resign
For the time being I'm in favour for Johnson to stay. While I'm not happy with what's happening, when I look at what some of the other World leaders are doing at the moment then Johnson looks slightly more sane, but he's on thin ice.

I don't think people were laughing at his every word last year - most were furious about his rule break and rightly so.
People are now furious about these latest rule breaks but I don't think anyone thinks he is the second coming. Most people know he is a dangerous man who was once in a position of power and has an axe to grind. He says he will swear on oath that he is telling the truth and has other witnesses. Its equally as hypocritical of Boris to say he believed his lies last year and now swear he's telling lies as it makes him look bad.
All politicians peddle the same things - bull****, lies and denial.
cummings is a proven liar, Boris is a proven liar. It doesn't mean they don't speak the truth sometimes
I think the difference this time is that there has been proof of the parties this time that backs up what cummings has been saying
just as an aside. They need 54 letters or something to force a vote of no confidence, but they then need more than 50% of tory mp's to pass that vote and force a leadership election. So they need close on 100 mp's voting against boris to force a leadership election and they are no where close to that threshold

No wonder Boris has seemed rather distracted of late ... I can’t imagine how you’d feel if your 5 week old baby was very poorly with Covid ( a virus we still know so little about ) .
I know I’m probably a lone voice in giving Boris the benefit of the doubt but seriously ... I would have taken myself away from politics for a while for this reason alone - yet he chose to fight through all this nonsense .

Say all you Zizu....say I am digging a hole but the implication is clear. The fact of the matter is you suggested he should ask at the next PMQs on the health of the child.....why? Starmers kids have had covid.....did Boris have the common decency to ask about them? Not in PMQs he hasn't....possibly in private communication. We just don't know.
It is actually impossible to have a conversation with you about Boris, you hold him in such high regard because he is "likeable" that its just not worth it.
I hope you are feeling better now

Tracey Emin has distastefully asked for her artwork to be removed from Downing Street as it ‘encourages a party atmosphere’, she claims in an interview with Woman’s Hour
She told BBC radio 4 people were ‘extremely upset’ by the artwork. Personally, I had no idea it was there, and even if I knew, I wouldn’t give a flying toss.
‘More Passion’ was gifted to David Cameron in 2011

Despite asking for it to be removed, it is only ‘given the current situation’ - essentially Emin wants it removed for the next week, then back up.
She then joked the government ‘need more compassion’.

Democracy? The only people who would democratically be hurt by removing BoJo would be those in his constituency who voted for him, and even then being ousted as PM wouldn't necessarily mean he'd stop being their MP.
Remember, we don't elect PMs, so his removal wouldn't be an affront to democracy.

Wherever these leaks are coming from, breaches of the rules happened, by those who slapped them on the rest of us and should be investigated and if rules were indeed broken, consequences should follow as they would for anyone who breaks the law.

Again, that political change isn't at the expense of democracy. Even relegating the entire Cabinet to the back benches wouldn't be undemocratic, as they're not publicly elected positions.

Quite right too. While the NHS has money to squander on pointless diversity jobs at upwards of £32k per year, they don't need another penny.
Yes, the salvaging of the NHS after the pandemic needs to be paid for, but this should be done by using the opportunity to trim the fat, rather than stealing more money from working people.
So now it turns out THAT party was a surprise party for him and he stayed ( out of politeness) for less than TEN minutes..

The PM should not be there for viewing figures. He should be there as the ahead of State and ideally above reproach. A "cash cow" is what we don't need...we need a PM who will follow the rules he made the rest of us abide by under the threat of criminal conviction at that time

cummings is clearly behind most of the leaks. The timing etc doesn't really matter. If there hadn't been rule breaks there wouldn't have been a story. The fact that there seem to be so many occasions where Boris's staff felt it was appropriate to rule break, means that Boris was clearly fine with it. How many times can he say he only attended a party for 10 minutes  If he wanted his staff to stick to the rules it would have happened once and never again, not as seems to be the case where there was party every week.
People have to remember that loved ones were kept apart from each other in incredibly difficult circumstances because they followed the rules. For those that had an unhappy ending, they will never forget it and Boris didnt give a toss. Lets be honest, he still doesn't and thats the problem

What politicians should or shouldn’t be doing is not my point ..
The fact is Boris has raised the profile of the news stations / channels beyond recognition and they devote hours some days to him .
My point is that the news people probably Sky above all will feel the loss of Boris from our screens more than they realise.

thatcher didnt resign and she stood again in the subsequent election, and she only reluctantly backed down in the 2nd round of that and she was still booted out
thatcher didnt resign and she stood again in the subsequent election, and she only reluctantly backed down in the 2nd round of that and she was still booted out
She didn’t have the general likability that Boris does .. I bet he will still do well in all the polls when this fiasco has all but passed.
It’s only the media and the desperate Labour followers who can taste blood who are fuelling the fire .

The leaks are a deliberate manipulation of public opinion to create a political change, they ride roughshod on death and sorrow for personal malice and revenge
The media releasing stories to affect opinions on politicians is nothing new - I wasn't a fan of Corbyn, but they somehow managed to make an article about him not giving his umbrella to or sharing it with a woman standing next to him when it was raining :joker: I mean, really?! His not being much of a gentleman doesn't really affect anyone, but the Tories' rules affected people's lives, and while they were ignoring their own rules people wer missing out on the precious last moments with loved ones.

The media as you call them are not releasing leaks
They report on them
the reality is that all this does is highlight how completely OTT many of the rules were during that time and the majority of folk went along with it for the most part. Simply put, Boris and his pals didn't believe in those rules themselves. If they had, they would have followed them
this is all sounding more corrupt by the minute. By announcing now that there will be a police investigation, it means that Sue's investigation will not be published until the police investigation is complete. So the police could be "investigating" for months and then turn round and say ... nope didn't find anything wrong

Sue Gray has photographs of PM at 'lockdown parties', Sky News understands
Officials who work in government have handed images of alleged parties in Downing Street to investigators, Sky News understands.
The photographs, seen by Sue Gray, are believed to feature Boris Johnson and show people close together with wine bottles.
This is the latest development on a busy day of Partygate news, after the Metropolitan Police revealed it is investigating a "number of" parties in Downing Street and Whitehall.
In the last hour, it was suggested by a government source that the Gray report could be published within hours.

Because I think Johnson knows what's in Grays Report
which tomorrow after PMQ's
he gives a Sue Gray Statement.
And him saying sorry.
The Police Reports, take longer...........
Boris decides what gets published and when. He can easily withhold anything that is damaging to him. So people expecting some marvellous reveal are going to be very disappointed

what people say in public and do in private are 2 different things as all the party gate stuff has shown us
The majority of people speaking out now against Boris never liked him, so they have nothing to lose. Cabinet members wont say anything against him until a vote of no confidence brings him down. If they did anything else they would be seen a disloyal. That's the nature of the game. So Andrew Neil won't get anything other than that in his interviews

there will be the "apologists" too that simply dont think Boris did anything wrong, so provided there is a balance for and against it really doesnt matter.
Also, it doesnt matter what they debate ... if they dont get 54 letters saying they have no confidence it is irrelevant ... even if they did get the 54, they then have to hold a vote and get more than 50% of tory mps that want him out, and thats very unlikely to happen
