Me, too.
That's one of the benefits of getting older. You see situations and people in authority/government for what they really are, and none of them are competent.
All of them are useless - but above all, greedy and only interested in themselves.

Well my first memory of politics is the overwhelming hatred , disappointment and distrust of Harold Wilson the Labour PM of the 60’s .. and just about everyone since
They have all failed miserably, all had scandals and affairs in the meantime.
It doesn’t really matter who is in charge as it makes zero difference to us at the bottom of the pile !!
The rich and powerful will continue to help the rich and powerful ..
Who expected this seemingly straight-laced family guy to have a sordid , four YEAR extra marital affair with one of his married MPs !!?

I cannot believe I used to look up to some - not all - politicians. I genuinely thought they were clever people. Now I see them for what they are. Selfish, very stupid, and greedy. Thank Gawd I saw the light.:hee:

First time in a very long time I have attempted to watch one of these Tory leadership things.
Last time was when there were about five candidates.
I switched on tonight, Talk TV. It was supposed to start at 7pm, but by 7.14pm they were still waffling on and no sign of the two candidates. One of the speakers said 'welcome to the show', as if it was a TV game show or something bizarre.
Or perhaps another show. A circus.
Switched off.

How about £10,000 to every person on all benefits. It would never happen but it would be very welcome. :)
I disagree, that people on £40,000 a year need help. I'm afraid they'll have to suck it up.
No way would I give them any money so they can still go on the winter holidays, or restaurant trips.

Think about all the money the government has wasted in just the last three years. Track and Trace, over 22billion I think. All the money lost on wasted medical equipment - burned deemed no good. Billions there. Then we have fraud which cost another £20billion.
Then my idea doesn't seem so 'crazy'.

Crazy thing is … everyone wanted Boris out and manufactured a way to oust him ( basically a couple of butties at an afternoon gathering in his own back garden) … yet he’s probably the only person who could have sorted this energy mess out … like he did with the vaccines , T & T and the furlough system
He’d have thrown billions at the issue and we would not all be in such a worried state

The thing that bothered me was that the so-called Chancellor equated people on as low as £3,500 per year benefits in the same position as someone on £40,000 a year. That someone like that also needs help. No way. Nobody on that much needs any help. Target it to the people on benefits and the actual low paid.
its all about fuel costs as a percentage of your available income and that can badly affect anyone. 40k a year in a large house with a large mortgage and a large family will very quickly feel the effects of price rises

I have never from first coming to know of Johnson, liked him at all.
I think he's been a disaster as PM, with his endless deceit and lies, plus abusing the power he was trusted with.
So for me, he has very little to go off feeling proud about at all.
However, he could have, had he decided a different path of leadership.
He could have been a good PM because he'd have had the personality to carry it off, had he set out to unify and NOT divide even further across the board.
Had he shown humility in his 80 overall majority rather than see it as an excuse to divide and boast endlessly about.
Had he thought more on, yes, he got an 80 overall majority in this dinosaur like electoral system we have.
However around 56% of actual voters voting against him.
Had he chosen to uphold laws including his own, rather than break them.
Not mislead the Monarch too.
In his lifetime he's made good contrasting arguments on many issues.
Such as the EU for one.
Where he made strong points for it and against it.
It may well be now he's out the heights of major politics other than being an ordinary MP.
Like other PMs before him.
He'll now say much more sense than he has this last few years.
Overall however, he is in my view the worst PM I think ever from the start of the 20th century to now.
So for me it's good riddance to him.
Sadly what's coming after him is yet another deluded pathetic ornament.
I was speaking to a South African today and he thought Boris was great compared to the corruption in the SA government, so I guess it's all relative

Well in relation to other Countries.
He may well be seen as a good leader.
There's likely Countries who think Trump was a good leader.
As far as I'm concerned for the UK he was always a wrong one.
The polling in the end went against him.
Although after less than only 3 years.
Plus even after clearing out the more.moderate opposition to.him in his own party before the 2019 election.
It then came about his OWN MPs and many who'd even supported his leadership campaign to turn against him.
That doesn't suggest a good leader for the UK in my.book.
However he's seen in other Nations, for myself living in the UK I'm really glad to see him OUT.

Actually in truth I'd say SHE did more harm to Johnson by staying in place and not letting him see his behaviour was unacceptable.
She ENABLED him to continue his deceit and misleading.
She'd turn a blind eye to his abuses of power, his misleading the Monarch.
Breaking his own laws and for promoting to a senior role a sexual predator.
She'd turn a blind eye to just those serious issues to hold her extra salary and Ministerial position.
Why, because she likely believed it would help her when she also sought his job.
Which was probably her devious intention all the time.
She's a total hypocrite, nothing to admire about her in the slightest.
She actually is, and I hope it's seen in the next election, that she was and IS the worst of ALL the candidates there were in this leadership election to choose from.
She's totally grossly deluded by her own self importance, which REALLY is extremely unattractive all through.

I heard again today from Ben Habib, who was on Talk TV. He is one of Truss' biggest fans. He, too, was going on about NOT 'giving handouts' but cutting taxes. Both of them are as much use as a chocolate fireplace.

She's a turnaround crawler, no principles.

If Johnson hadn't gone, she'd still be out there on the media claiming the NI increase was the ONLY way to properly fund the NHS and get funding for social care.

I think it was parliament who delayed Brexit and moreso the Con MPs who didn't want it.
Her OWN party voted her deal down which actually was a better one than Johnson claimed he already had but didn't have.
May was a useless leader however, as to campaigning but here comes far worse in gross Truss.

Telegraph :
[Liz Truss will declare on Sunday
that she will do away with
“sticking plasters and kicking the can down the road”
in order to fix Britain’s energy market and
reinvigorate the economy.
A source close to the Foreign Secretary,
who is considered highly likely to be
announced as the next
Conservative leader on Monday,
said she would embark on
a “two-track approach”:
unveiling immediate financial support for
households while also trying to solve
the deep-rooted problems exposed
by the impacts of Covid and the war in Ukraine.
Writing for The Telegraph,
Ms Truss pledges to set out
“immediate action on energy bills and
energy supply” in her first week in office,
as a prelude to a budget that would
take place later this month.
Ms Truss writes: “We need to take the
difficult decisions to ensure we are not
in this position every autumn and winter.
Sticking plasters and kicking
the can down the road will not do.”
While aides insisted that plans for reform
were yet to be finalised,
Ms Truss’s pledge to avoid relying on
temporary solutions to the problem of
soaring energy prices suggests that the
Foreign Secretary is preparing for an
overhaul of the market.]

It always makes me laugh when I hear about these political advisors. Some as young as 21 years old, 'advising' major figures in government, when the advisors are not long out of short trousers with no experience of life. :joker:
Also funny that someone like a PM needs somebody else to advise him. Then he shouldn't be PM. :nono: If he has to take advice for people with no life or political experience.:joker:

I've tuned into Mike Graham on Talk TV and I can't believe my ears.
Mike and his guest absolutely slating Sunak and praising Truss to the hilt.
Almost as if she is the second coming. :joker:
It souded as if Mike was close to orgasm as he said how wonderful she is.:joker:
You just have to laugh, how sad it is. And how manipulative Talk TV can be, despite saying they have the ordinary people's interests at heart.

The only thing I'm looking forward to now here.
Is that tomorrow at last it's good riddance to Johnson.
The rest is more a non event with Liz Gross taking over however.
Doesn't alter the chaotic shambles of government the UK has had these last 6 years at least.
Now to be led by someone utterly deluded.

Of 172,000 Con members who could vote she couldn't even get 50% of them to support her.
It's only a 15% margin.
Plus there were 245 Con MPs in parliament who not only didn't want her as leader but didn't even want her in the final 2 run off.
To the rest of the millions of voters, in England and the other great Nations of the UK, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
This is and should be appallingly gross.

I think the thing I've most enjoyed today comes from Wes Streeting as to the desperate and still building chaos of all that needs putting right.
Following the election of gross Truss.
Words to the effect of.
That it's a bit like calling on one of the arsonists to put out the fire.
