I’m with you 100%. The assumption that everyone’s going to be comfortable with dogs over-stepping basic human boundaries and slobbering all over them is pretty entitled, likewise for the inherent suspicion that anyone who doesn’t like dogs must be an enemy of mankind or at-best traumatised from a bad childhood-encounter with dogs. That’s one way of looking at it but, honestly, landmines or no landmines, we’re all at-least rudimentary adults on this forum. You’re not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea and even if you are, you’re not going to be everyone’s idea of an ideal BB-candidate (which does involve a certain amount of positioning in some drama a good chunk of the time). That’s just a fact of life, and an actual fact, not a random, biased projection from a total stranger who thinks you should know why he’s decided not to like you, probably based on nothing more than misread tone or misperception, which has nothing to do with you in any case. Anyone who can’t accept that probably shouldn’t be on a BB forum, IMO. I just feel like it was ultimately toxicity from various people that really got that thread shut down. It’s always the same few who gang up without cause. If I do that, it’s for a tangible reason. I have an actual reason to dislike these people, so it’s not just random projection. Not in my case.

I think the likes of Ben and sheriff, both as bad as each-other these days, really have a lot to think about, and not just be reactively defensive about (a huge marker of immaturity). I agree and disagree with this. Don’t get me wrong it is annoying when businesses only let you pay by cash but on the flip side, businesses actually get charged for transactions made through card payments.

If it’s a Tesco then I couldn’t care, charge them all you want because they’re making money hand over fist (and during a cost of living crisis too) but for local businesses, especially ones which are probably struggling, as an inconvenience as it is I’m happy to look past it and pay cash.

Ours is normally Friday which is perfect.. except hurricanes and storms mess up all our pickup. So usually Recycle gets picked up alongside our trash. It ends up a few days to a week or so later because they pull people from Recycle to put towards Normal Trash+Heavy Trash/storm debris and then we end up with months of waiting for the schedule to get back to normal again. It catches up for a few weeks and then another storm hits and we get messed up again. So the green bins (Recycle) live on the curb and kill everything underneath...

The schedule is still not normal. Recently they missed an entire month of Recycle and then came to pick it up (finally), but then broke our normal trashcan on the same day. So now even though we can pull in our Recycle after a few days, our trashcan has to be left upside down until they pick it up and replace. It's been almost a month since that happened. So we have to tip it back up on Fridays to put bags we've set aside (gross), because they're taking their time...

My biggest gripe of recent is that people can't seem to park in the center of a spot so I end up parking further back because I'm afraid that the other person won't be able to get into their vehicle if I park in such a way that I can get out of my vehicle.

I don't know if it's exactly because vehicles have gotten wider on average (also possible) or because people just care less about parking in the center. I think it's the latter because it seems to have degraded along with general driving conditions in the city... people seem to have forgotten just how much power is in their hands while they're out on the road...

Yep. Misophonia’s ironically mostly a silent, an invisible, condition so most people don’t notice, and half of them wouldn’t even understand if you pointed it out anyway, but it’s not pleasant. But you don’t even need to have misophonia to find sniffing/people repeatedly twitching their noses irritating. I had a teacher once (Year 6) who would actively clamp down on people sniffing, because she was just like me in that fundamental regard, and she probably genuinely must’ve been, to be fair. Because 7 times out of 10 sniffing’s one of those sounds you either don’t notice at-all or you’re more especially tuned into and irritated by, misophonia or no misophonia. You probably wouldn’t insist on people blowing their noses as sniffing arises if you’re genuinely unbothered by it.

The fact that openly reflective listening, and being able to relate with someone’s experiences when they’re venting or offloading a little, isn’t always regarded as highly as quieter listening. Sometimes it’s nice for someone to directly relate with you rather than just keep the verbiage going with lots of generic “Uh-huh”-s. There’s a difference between making it all about yourself and just offering a bit of gentle, open reflection in a conversation.

As reserved as I am, I’m still a sucker for a two-sided conversation, even when the other person’s doing more listening. I think for a lot of people it’s about quietly craving reciprocity amidst being reflective or however socially mellowed down your disposition is. You still want the other person to be tuned in, and you need words to fill in the blanks. …an irritation for me yesterday evening…seeing a streamed movie showing that looked interesting/reading the synopsis etc and thinking yes and I have that streaming site as well…then realising when I go into it that it’s a paid for movie …I’m so done with extra charges for some movies/series and they seem to be growing to be more and more as well…


There’s a theory that because everyone is getting sick and tired of all these paid options that this proliferation of paid apps / streams will come to an end and soon we will see someone gathering them all together and offering everything at an affordable ( certified not cheap ) price … and legally

Yeah but it’s not set-in-stone like maths or quantum-mechanics are. Moreover, people are still individuals, regardless of the boxes society tries to cluster them into. Some people take that generation-typology shiz way too seriously. Generations exist to observe patterns, not to cage people or get obsessed over which group had it better as kids (a time tinted by nostalgia in retrospect anyway, for all generations; it’s a tale as old as time itself). It’s just a bit of fun pop-sociology. It shouldn’t be taken any-much more seriously than that.

Flo. Chinyere constantly telling Nigerians not to move to the U.K., that Spain’s the best. If Spain worked out for you, that’s great, but as far as I can tell it’s definitely not the better of the two places to live if you’re someone who needs history, continuity, legacy and a broader all-round sense of community across generations. There’s none of that whatsoever in Spain.

Spain might sound like a more attractive location on paper to the U.K.; a more tropical destination, sure (that-it is); but rarely outside of the U.K. and maybe certain parts of America and Canada do you see such concentrated, long-standing enclaves of community, across many different tribes, including deep presence in Peckham (more Yoruba), Houston (more Igbo) and the official Igbo community in Liverpool, the oldest official Igbo community outside Igboland (possibly even in the whole world, because this was in 1935, when suggestions of a pan-Igbo identity were still in the early-ish stages, even in Nigeria itself. Ọ̀gbakọ́. Yam-festivals. International slavery-remembrance day (23 August), weekend-òwámbẹ́s, a strongly-established second-generation generation all being brought up in very similar but very different ways, and with its proximity to and even influence of more general established black-community culture, as well as American/British cultures in less racially-defined ways. The carnivals, the festivals, the networking-spots and platforms (e.g., Igbo Cultural-Support Network/ICSN). The restaurants and general easy availability of Nigerian-food access, even if you don’t live in a major city. The huge number of churches, from Pentecostal to Nigerian Anglican/Catholic ones to Assemblies of God. Spain ain’t got none of that. And quite-frankly, the U.K. is at-least on-par with the U.S. as having the best TV in the world (Nollywood and Nigerian movies in-general, at-least the actually-well-written ones, being another supplementary frontier). Spanish TV is dead. Nice beaches, warm weather, nice holiday-spot, a fraction of what the U.K. has in terms of overall Nigerian community (and it really is only a fraction), maybe a bit cheaper, and that’s it. I don’t think an enormous number of people from some of these more intertwined backgrounds would actually wanna live there. It could be quite isolating for many.

And I'm going to guess there isn’t the range of particular Nigerian ethnic groups (Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Edoid/Bini, Urhobo, Efik, Kalabari, Igala, you name it) in Spain. No mixed-race communities borne of the back of mixing, all with their own story to tell and part of the chapter to add. It seems sparse and not built on strong intergenerational foundations, no matter how nice an all-inclusive 2-week trip to Ibiza is or the culture of siestas (which the U.K. could do with a bit more of). It wouldn’t have taken Flo. a million years to have heard of Golden-Sella basmati rice if she was in the U.K., either.

The assumption that affinity and connection to your “ethnic” side as a person who’s mixed-race, to varying proportions (not just 50-50), is fractional and that an “octoroon” or “quadroon” is likely only gonna be 1/8 or 1/4 black “culturally”, respectively.

As-with a lot of things, it’s nuanced, it’s personal and depends on so much more than “dominant-vs.-recessive biological dominance”, fraction of mixicity, how “white” you can pass for and all-that other obvious stuff. Cultural heterogeneity is not inherently fractionated. It’s not transmitted in exact Mendelian ratios. So much of it depends on the individuality of the person themselves. An “octoroon” can be more directly in touch with their specific black side to them than a fully black person who has that ethno-cultural ancestry fully on both sides. Just-because one looks purely white (more-or-less anyway) at first glance doesn’t mean they inherently value fish fingers over jollof rice or jerk-goat. But that’s the implicit assumption a lot of purely white people make, where anyone who they don’t suspect to be at-least very obviously and significantly mixed, if not significantly of-colour, dipping into specific ancestral specifics comes across as alien and incongruous.

You can be 1/8 ethnically X but be raised and immersed fully and relationally within the eighth, 3/4 and disconnected from that 75%, half-and-half and not bothered one way or the other or whatever. The constellations and combinations are endless.

Don’t bother with him, Mock. He’s just trying to get one up on me and that’s all there is to it. Cue the abuse-card from him, feeling victimised just-because people have opinions he doesn’t like or vibe with. Ditto for his childish wannabe-mockery, trying so hard to make a sting. But what’s truly inexcusable is his behaviour in the last page, trying to minimise people’s cultural scope of experiences because he doesn’t have the range to understand them. And to then have the nerve to probably stand there and pretend he didn’t understand. That’s a new low, even for him, and he does understand what he’s doing, bold as brass. Shows how much integrity he has and respect for cultural layers beyond the indigenes of Greater Manchester.

That existential disrespect obviously won’t mean as much to the average TiBBer as it will to me but either way, it’s beyond defense and the boundaries of what’s okay. I wouldn’t want to see anyone make excuses for him there. He needs to take responsibility for something, as much as he prefers not to. It’s easy for him to say “I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about” but that’s not acceptable and it’s exactly the sort of thing I’m always talking about when it comes to his refusal to take accountability for anything he says, because he’d rather play victim instead. And some people buy into it and enable that pattern. Yes, the average demographic on here doesn’t always account for the kind of specific nuance I hint at or sometimes even say outright but even without that context, it’s not for others to allow him to keep evading, diminishing and side-stepping without ever admitting what he’s actually doing for fear that it might stress him out beyond what he can cope with; even in the face of his intentional ignorance. It’s not on.

I am happy enough posting all over the forum, about all manner of subjects and topics but for whatever reason you always feel compelled to just jump with a seemingly endless stream of toxic comments…. largely incoherent gobbledygook normally .

It’s wilful, intentional ignorance, Zizu. Plain-and-simple. I know I’m wasting my time with you but it has to be pointed out regardless. You were in the wrong. The least you could’ve done was take accountability for it when it was pointed out. Ignorance of the context doesn’t mean you can’t admit that you spoke disrespectfully and insensitively (since you’re big on sensitivity, as something you want but don’t always like giving back). But you’re not going to do any of that, because you’re allergic to owning your words and actions. Easier to just play dumb instead. It’s always served and worked for you. I honestly would be livid if I got food delivered to me in that state.
