This is a historic day for Soap Fans Everywhere.

Chewy formly knowen as MrCorrie, is now giving up on everything he ever belived in.
You see there comes a time in life where we must let go off what we love and move onto new obsessions.
So Chewy has given up on Soaps.. Where does the Corrie Discussion Thread go from here?

Only time will tell.

It's true, there does come a time in life where stuff like Corrie has to take a back seat, I'm leaving college soon and getting a job and I'll have to start building my future, life is about more than soaps

It's about Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, Forza Motorsport 3 and Fallout: New Vegas :p

At the end of last year, Coronation Street's leading showrunner Kim Crowther announced her decision to stand down from the role after two and a half years. Here, in her first in-depth interview since the news broke, Kim reveals how the handover with incoming producer Phil Collinson will work, what's to come for the show's 50th birthday and provides a hoard of storyline teasers for the coming months.

How's the build-up to the 50th anniversary going?
"We're still having lots of discussions about it. Obviously we've been talking about it for some time so we've got lots of ideas and we may do all of them or some of them or they may change as we develop them! We're storylining episodes that will be on screen in June at the moment so we're halfway through the year in terms of storytelling. We wouldn't start getting to talk about the end of the year until about July. However, we have to ensure that we have all of the key characters that we want to be at the centre of the show then, in good stories in the build-up so that they may climax coinciding with the anniversary."

Have you settled on a feel for the anniversary?"Tone is something we've talked about at great length with the writers. We're agreed it needs to have certain elements. It needs to feel like Corrie and have a feel-good, warm and humorous element but it also needs to be dramatic and satisfying. Those are the elements we look for in any good story for the show."

You mentioned in a recent webchat that it would be based around a big event...
"Ah, yes! It's just that the event may change! (Laughs) This is the ongoing discussion - it's still being debated and would have to be part of the story which is building."

There's been a lot of talk about comebacks - are Curly and Karen returning?"At the moment there are no plans to bring either of them back."

Fans were shocked when you announced your decision to step down as producer - how did that decision come about?"Most producers on this show only usually do about two years because we are a small team, and the truth is, you just burn out. I've done over two years already and I think because it's the 50th this year there's been an expectation that I would stay till then. I would love to, but I'm pretty worn out! I'm very excited about what I am making until I step down in the spring but I've got two young children - one's 3 and one's 5 - who haven't really seen their mummy for two years and my nanny went on maternity leave at Christmas. I had to ask myself, could I do another 18 months? If the 50th had been in the Summer I would probably have stayed and seen it through but when I was looking ahead towards the end of last year, it was another 18 months away and I felt that I needed to get home before then."

But your ideas will carry on 'til the anniversary, right?"Yes. There are stories we're playing from the end of last year that continue into 2010 and will be paid off at the end of 2010. Hopefully they will still continue and build and take shape and have wonderful payoffs that we've already discussed. However, with every round of debate, ideas change a bit so I will be very excited to see how they play out under Phil's guidance later in the year. When I step off storylines at the end of March, I will have just started filming a really big week when we see the return of Tony Gordon, so I'll get very hands on with that on the floor and take that through to final edit. Phil will take over on storylines and scripts from then on."

Are you pleased with Phil as a successor?"Yes, absolutely. He's got Corrie running through him, just as I have, which can only be a good thing when you eat, sleep and breathe it as you have to as producer. He has a great track record of producing some fantastic drama so I think he'll be great for the show. I'm leaving it in good hands."

How's the handover process going to work?"We've already had a couple of meetings to get him up to speed and of course he's reading everything we're writing now so he can be ready to start at the end of March. I invited him to the long-term conference last week when we discussed the 50th, so he's already part of those discussions."

How did you lure Kate Ford back as Tracy Barlow? "The writers and I have always loved Tracy Barlow, she's a fantastic character - I was here when we decided to reinvent the character and when we chose Kate for the part. So this time around, we had this story for Gail and we thought, 'Wouldn't it be great if we added Tracy into the mix?' So I just talked to her and persuaded her!"

How on earth are you going to get her out of prison - is it as straightforward as a technicality? "It might be! It's interesting - you have to get round these logistical things sometimes in shows like ours and I don't really mind it, I have to say. I don't mind the odd contrivance if you're on the edge of your seat going, 'How audacious! Look at that!' If it excites you, I don't really mind. We have a story to get her out and we've researched it so it's perfectly legitimate but I wouldn't really care if it wasn't particularly, because I just think it's so exciting anyway! As a viewer I wouldn't care."

You are a student and about getting a job?
Now I understood.
Of course once you started to work, you have to concentrate on the job.

Do not worry about here. Smithy is already looking after us. Patric, jackie, BigSister, flemin, MrGaryy will visit here often I hope.

But if you feel want to relax sometimes in a future, please pop in.

I have to say Peter Barlows acting (well the actor who plays Peter) was amazing as a drunk yesterday. I so often find that people playing 'drunks' overdo it or just end up looking silly. He looked like a true alcoholic who'd fallen off the wagon. Applause to him!

This prison story reminded me that Deirdre also had been to prison for a while the crime she did not commit about 10 years ago.

Public campaigned to free Deirdre, even Tony Blair made a speach at the Commons to support it. (it is true!!)

So Gail's prison storyline has to be very special to be as successful as Deirdre's one.

Coronation Street's series producer Kim Crowther has promised that Tracy Barlow's release from prison will be handled in a realistic manner.

Speaking in an interview with DS, Crowther explained that the soap's team have conducted research to come up with a "perfectly legitimate" way to create the plot twist.

Tracy, played by actress Kate Ford, will return to screens later this year as she becomes embroiled in another character's jail storyline. She will go on to make a full-time Weatherfield comeback towards the end of 2010.

Crowther revealed: "It's interesting - you have to get round these logistical things sometimes in shows like ours and I don't really mind it, I have to say. I don't mind the odd contrivance if you're on the edge of your seat going, 'How audacious! Look at that!' If it excites you, I don't really mind.

"We have a story to get her out and we've researched it so it's perfectly legitimate but I wouldn't really care if it wasn't particularly, because I just think it's so exciting anyway! As a viewer I wouldn't care."

Tracy is currently serving a 15-year jail sentence after being found guilty of murdering her partner Charlie Stubbs (Bill Ward).

Looks like corrie was top of the ratings last night :D

Joe McIntyre's boating accident during last night's Coronation Street was seen by an average of 10.9m yesterday evening, according to early figures.

The Manchester serial's double bill - which saw Joe explain to Gail how he planned to escape his own death, before being knocked overboard - logged 10.58m (42.6%) and 10.9m (40.7%).

ITV2's repeats from 12.55am added 95k (3.5%) and 129k (6.1%) respectively.

EastEnders' screening, during which Bradley admitted the truth about Stacey, Archie and the baby to Max and Jack, delivered 10.39m (39.1%) at 8pm. BBC Three's 10pm repeat added 941k (4.6%).

ITV1's Emmerdale offering put in 8.03m (34.7%) at 6.30pm.

The police question Gail and Tina about Rick the loan shark. Tina covers for her dad, claiming that he's working in the Lakes but she later confides in Jason about Joe's crazy plan to fake his own death.

A worried Tina tells Gail that Joe has until Monday to show up or she's telling the police everything. With that, she leaves a message on Joe's phone, begging him to let her know that he's alive and well.

Fifty miles up the motorway, though, Joe's body is hauled from the lake and zipped into a body-bag…

Eileen's furious about Jesse's plan to spend all of his winnings on his parents and tells Jesse that he either takes her to Egypt or they're finished. What will Jesse choose to do?

Meanwhile, Lewis fancies a bit of fun and persuades Audrey they should go to The Rovers and pretend that they've never met before. Liz and Deirdre admire Lewis across the bar and are mightily put out when he makes a beeline for Audrey.

Norris clocks Lewis in The Rovers but can't for the life of him remember where he's seen him before.

Elsewhere, Kevin drags Tyrone out for a drink in an attempt to cheer him up; and Gary's army mate Quinny tries to chat up Rosie.

Looks like Joe wont be coming back, EVER!!

Corrie’s Norris Cole is to be kidnapped and imprisoned by a crazed admirer in scenes straight out of Stephen King’s horror blockbuster Misery.

In the 1990 film a novelist is held captive, drugged and tortured by fan Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates) at her mountain home.

Norris (Malcolm Hebden) will be terrified by his own No1 follower Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) after he agrees to go on holiday with her to a remote cottage near Haworth where the Brontes wrote their novels.

Advertisement - article continues below »

She sabotages the car and phone and gets violent when the timid shopkeeper suggests going for help. A Corrie source said: “Mary convinces herself they are reincarnations of Heathcliffe and Cathy and keeps trying to share his bed.

“Norris escapes to a phone box. When Mary arrives he tries to run and hide but falls and sprains his ankle. Mary refuses to take him to hospital and returns him to the cottage telling him: “The more helpless you are the stronger I get.”

Panic sets in when Norris spots her in the yard with an axe and barricades himself in.

The Corrie source added: “At first viewers will be amused by Norris’s plight. But they’ll soon realise that Mary is seriously demented.”

Yet EE always gets criticised for having no humour because it's more of a drama:rolleyes:. For them the funny bits are in the one liners between the characters or events taking place.

I watched EE for about 15 years from the start.
But I found stroylines were too much for me. (my age, ha ha)

Evil Tony busts out of chokey!

CORRIE villain Tony Gordon will make a shock return this summer - when he breaks out of Weatherfield prison.
The knicker factory boss is behind bars for ordering the murder of love rival Liam Connor and trying to drown Roy Cropper.

But he escapes to settle old scores with ex-wife Carla Connor and his henchman Jimmy Dockerson - who ran over Liam on Tony's orders.

Most of all he wants to track down ex-fiancée Maria Connor.

A top insider told TV Biz: "Tony suffers a real breakdown in jail. Without Maria, he's hit rock bottom.

I remember when I was about 11 I had a dream one night of Gail from Corrie being thrown of a Cliff by her Mum and then she landed on the ground and everyone from the show was standing above the cliff crying and then Gail coughed Blood and slowly died and then that Fat guy with the baldy head who use to be in it, came over and started crying.

It was really scary for me tbh, there was more to it im sure but I cant remember.

That was a few years back, was quite random that dream but you know..

-EDIT-

Just remembered the scary part, Gail was screaming when she coughed blood, I just remembered because I watched Scream 2 and the women at the start did this pose when she got stabbed and she was in the cinema and all the blood came out of her mouth, thats what made me think of that dream and it was all ****ed up LOL

Filming for Norris Cole's new Coronation Street storyline was yesterday halted due to snow, it has been confirmed.

A location shoot in the Yorkshire Moors for scenes involving Norris (Malcolm Hebden) and his admirer Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) was abandoned after poor weather conditions made it too difficult to film.

Norris's new Misery-style plotline sees Mary holding the newsagent captive in a remote cottage near Haworth after they go off on holiday together.

A show source told The Sun: "Snow made filming impossible. It wouldn't have been safe."

A Coronation Street spokeswoman confirmed: "We did have to abandon some filming yesterday up on the Moors. It will be rescheduled."

Filming at Corrie's Granada Studios base in Manchester was previously disrupted last month due to heavy snowfall.

Guess this means we can expect to see her kidnap him in Mid-April

This week's Inside Soap reveals that war is about to break out in the factory when knicker stitcher Kelly Crabtree tries to sabotage Teresa Bryant's work when she is taken on as a cleaner. Teresa gets the job after winning a bet with Kelly that she can get a job by the end of the day and is quick to gloat about winning the wager and telling Kelly that they're going to be co-workers. The smile is soon knocked off her face though when Carla presents her with a mop and tells her to get scrubbing.

Kelly finds it hilarious even though she lost the bet and takes great pleasure in belittling her in front of the rest of the factory. However, Teresa gets stuck in and leaves the place shining like a new pin, which gets right on Kelly's wick who then resorts to pouring the contents of the tea club all over the floor.

Unable to control herself any more, Teresa sets about Kelly with her mop and the pair have to be pulled apart by boss Carla. Teresa gets the push but after a grovelling apology manages to get her job back.

With them both now working in the factory, we can only wonder whether Underworld is going to be big enough for two of the biggest gobs on the Street.

Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has admitted that she felt a "huge" responsibility when filming her character's miscarriage storyline.

The actress's alter ego Becky McDonald will next week tell screen husband Steve (Simon Gregson) that she has lost their first child.

Speaking of the plot's challenging nature, Kelly told the soap's official website: "It's definitely been the hardest thing I've done since I've been here. I think the responsibility to do it well that you feel is huge."

She continued: "I've just got another six scripts - it just goes from bad to worse [for Becky]. I sat and read them last night and wept. It's just awful.

"She can't really put up any barriers about this - it's the worst thing that's ever happened. She goes from being a girl to a woman, I think. I'm just devastated for her as after three and a half years you become attached to your character.

"I'm finding it hard but I'm enjoying the challenge and that's what I love about this job the most."

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Becky will consider adoption after being told that she will never be able to carry a baby to full term.

Coronation Street star Jane Danson has said that she finds her current plot on the soap "distressing".

Speaking to The Mirror, the mother-of-two, who plays Leanne Battersby on the ITV show, commented on her gritty storyline in which Leanne's son Simon disappears.

"You can't imagine how it would feel. It's a situation you never want to find yourself in," the 31-year-old said.

She continued: "Both [co-star] Chris [Gascoyne] and I are parents and we found the storyline quite distressing."

Danson added that she manages to "switch off" from her character's story so as not to feel emotionally drained.

Helen Worth has revealed that she thought she was being written out of Coronation Street when she learned that her character was to be charged with murder.

The 59-year-old actress, who has played the soap's Gail McIntyre since 1974, said she was "very pleased" to discover her future is secure, regardless of what happens at the trial.

Worth told the Sunday Mirror that she was "genuinely anxious" when the plotline was revealed. "I wasn't shocked, because it can happen to an actor at any time. But I was very pleased when I found out that whatever happens at Gail's trial, I will be staying in the show," she said.

The storyline sees Gail being framed for the murder of her husband Joe McIntyre by former neighbour Tracy Barlow

Gail will be arrested at Joe's wake at the Rovers Return and is sent to prison to await trial. Filming of the prison scenes, which took place at Styal Women’s Prison in Cheshire, was a sobering experience for Worth.

"I'd never been inside a prison before and we filmed on the remand block. On remand you are presumably innocent until proven guilty, yet you are behind a locked door in a real prison and treated as a prisoner," she said, adding that her character has the backing of the inmates.

"They were shouting out, 'Free Gail! Free Gail!' when they saw me. They all watched Coronation Street and were very *interested in what we were *doing," she said.

Worth initially joined the soap for six weeks and said that she has no plans to leave.

sooty

I do not like Tina.

Normally I hardly dislike a character, but I do not like her, specially at funeral.

Mind you how storyline will go. Only some time ago David was horrible but now he is fantastic.

I wonder it would happen to Tina as well,,,,.

Smithy
15-03-2010, 08:16 PM
I think Tina will get better, its only because shes grieving

Mrluvaluva
15-03-2010, 08:54 PM
I quite like Tina. I think she is getting better. I think Peter has played a good part recently too.

Smithy
15-03-2010, 09:01 PM

Mrluvaluva
15-03-2010, 09:12 PM
How old is he? Lol. He's better than Amy. He made me laugh tonight. I think Tom is the best child actor in Hollyoaks. Although he doesn't get as many funny lines as he used to.

First time I noticed that Corrie had a charity shop.

John Stape got a job as teacher again.

But he did not tell his past when he applied the post.
I am sure he will have a problem later.
