Default Do you feel safe walking at night where you live?

I do. I often walk at night. But admittedly get spooked if in quiet areas or if I think somebody is following me

Would you readily go for night-walks ??

I live in a place with smack heads, prozzies and wannabe gangsters. But yeah, I never go for night walks though unless it's back from a night out

In singapore yes becase well its somthing like the 2nd most crimeless place on earth because they have the death penalty for everything and the cane and stuff.

But in london no. At my old school muggers used to wait outside the gates ready to mug people. The school had a tunnel going under the road and made people who walked home go under the road and come out of a secret exit and change into own clothes first. Used to scare the s**t out of me.

Just goes to show that grim penalties are an effective deterrent. Over here we send our thugs and criminals on holidays and give them counselling to get over the "trauma" of their childhoods on which they blame everyone but themselves, as if they are moronic automatons with no free will.

Meanwhile, safe in the knowledge that the law will protect their rights over their victims', they are free to prey on the public.

To answer the OP's question, however, no I don't feel safe when I'm out and about - I live in South East London, so nuff said. But I don't let fear stop me from doing what I want, I just take extra precautions.

Yeah, but I live in a small village in the country where's there basically no crime, I've often done quite long walks on my own at night and never felt in danger

I used to, I got assaulted last year when I was walking alone at night and it's only recently I've felt safe enough to start walking anywhere when it's dark, despite living in a different city to where the assault took place, took around 8 months to get past that. In all honesty it just comes down to bad luck, you could be anywhere at the wrong time and something bad could happen to you.

Yeah - I live in a city that has a bad reputation to say the least, but like Niamh I sort of live in a village.

It isn't in the middle of nowhere though LOL but it's quiet so I'm fine.

I live in a dangerous city but in a very safe area, so I do walk at night, come home from nightclubs at 3 or 4am (on foot, because I live near cinemas, nightclubs, bars, restaurants etc) and I never feel in danger.

There is nothing to do in my neighbourhood so I'm rarely out here at night, but it's pretty safe as far as getting mugged goes. Burglaries are common, but that doesn't really count. Half of my town though is extremely unsafe. Too many louts drinking industrial amounts of beer every day.

Surprisingly, despite the high prevalence of crack and heroin addicts around here (who never have much money on them for long), I've never had my wallet stolen or anything like that.

Weirdly, in London I felt safe. Southwest London, but it's cos the area was so familiar. I know it well, I know who's dodgy and who's alright.

Where I am in Kent however: NO. Ugh no I'd rather die than walk through it.

I live in Havering (north east London) and I think we have the lowest crime rates in the city? But yeah I do feel pretty safe walking home at night when I do. I know my area like the back of my hand so I don't get scared really.

Yeah for the most part, there's a few dark small roads I wouldn't go near but that's surely just common sense.

Yes and no. I prefer it at night cos there's less people about and I used to walk someone's dog at about 2 in the morning cos by then most people are in bed. I'd have the streets all to myself.

Plus the other week I drunkenly went for a 2 hour walk by myself lol
