Looks like the door slides open, could always break a pane of glass above!

This is like the end of The Italian Job.

I thought originally to put something soft for the plates to land on, but the plates will just clash together and break...

Wouldn't tipping break them too though?

Probably remove the glass pane above the plates, push them back onto the shelf and hope for the best (assuming the plates are worth more than the glass panel)

I think that if you would remove the hinge screws to the right and then gently open the door from the opposite side you will be able to get a slim arm into catch the plates as the angle would jam the plates in enough for an arm to be inserted? But the woman has stacked far too many plates in that section of her cupboard and so she is reaping what she has sown. Or maybe an earthquake tremor made them fall?

A nice glass-cutter to cut a hole through the panel on the right, then reach through and stack them.

She was asking for trouble stacking them like that with a near-empty shelf below it, mind

Get some help lifting the thing (neighbors or relatives) and put the cupboard on the ground with the back wall facing down to the ground and the door facing upwards. Then open the door and pick everything up.

First you have to separate that section of the cupboard from the rest of the thing.
