It is.
I’m not saying a drug that can add so much cultural value and social (and even quiet internal, to a certain extent) lubrication is totally awful, by the way, nor am I even saying I’m teetotal myself (far from it). I’m just saying that social conditioning conditions a lot of people to see alcohol as less dangerous than it actually is (or to turn a blind eye to it) while demonising the drugs that actually have medicinal and spiritual benefits (weed, psychedelics, ketamine). Places like Portugal, Holland and North America are making spades of progress in this area, decriminalising/legalising cannabis and treating PTSD and severe depression with psilocybin (magic mushrooms) and ketamine, but UK legislature still has a very backwards approach to alcohol vs. other drugs and so much police-resources that are better going towards real crime (and the ultimate ending of the production and supply of heroin, because that’s a drug that really is beyond defense) end up being wasted chasing people vaping things that are medicinal and actually perfectly legal (CBD, thinking it’s weed, which itself shouldn’t be illegal). Recommended daily limits that no-one pays attention to anyway are the only form of specific restraint-deterrent a lot of people notice with regard to alcohol and it just causes so much antisocial behaviour and health complications when it’s taken further than it needs to, all in the name of a good night. In terms of overall health-complications only heroin’s worse than alcohol.
And yeah. The increasing popularity of cocaine hasn’t helped matters either, at all.
