I've never had a dog, so I can't really compare the experience. I interact loads with my cats. Not so much with the little pets though.. and although it's not nice losing the small pets, the advantage is that they don't tend to live long, so you don't have as strong a bond as you do when, for example, your 13 year old cat goes.. [as I had to unfortunately experience a few years ago]. Do you have both dogs and cats Tom?

My cats do that too. I've had my in-the-corner-crying moments and one of the cats always seems to show up and snuggle up purring.. weird little critters they are.. and, yeah, I agree about them having very different personalities.. we've had 4 cats in total [only have 2 now], and I had 2 cats at 2 different times when I lived at my parents house. None of them were the same - personality-wise.
