I wasn't after sympathy at all, if you read my post I was after ADVICE. I included my 'grow up' comment because I knew exactly the type of BILE you would post and thought you might actually refrain from posting.

You learned to drive at twenty four, I saw your post the other day. I'm seventeen. Now please, do stop replying to me.

I think you have good lessons followed by bad it's all about the practice, do you get to practice in between Pp lessons honestly it's lesson 12 I think you are being too hard on yourself

Dont give up.
Have a little break and maybe miss one or two weeks, then you will realise that you really want to learn.
Hubby used to take me out to get confidence for my (real) lessons, scratched all the side of the car coming out of a car park, then once when he said go straight over the next roundabout I took him literally
But we all get there in the end, tears and laughter are all part of the journey.
Good luck with it Daniel.

Oh babes that sounds awful.

I’m just doing automatic as I cba with manual and everyone in my family drives automatics so it’s not a big deal.

I tried driving this manual van my dad hired in Summer and I was 5 metres away from crashing it sjsjsjsjsnns

I wouldn’t stop, just do automatic. I have so much more confidence with an automatic.

My cousin is learning to drive and she cried last week, weirdly enough because of gears

She had a lesson today that went really well. It happens.
I nearly run over someone in one of my lessons. **** happens. Pick yourself up and carry on.

If you feel like you need to rest it, go for it. It’s your life.

Keep at it sis Don't give up and I wouldn't do automatic bc you won't be able to drive a manual on an auto licence where as on the manual license you can drive both, plus Manual cars are cheaper to buy and insure and it's just a good skill in general to have
Hope you're okay!

You're being too hard on yourself lovey, it takes time and you will get there in the end. It doesn't matter how long it takes you and the worst thing you can do is compare your progress to others so STOP IT, alright?

And I agree with Tom, stick with the manual as although it may seem easy to just do automatic, manual is a useful skill to have and gives you a lot more options in the future

I'm too shook to even start lessons so I already admire your bravery chick. Try not to dwell on negative thoughts and just realise it's a learning curve and part of the process

I couldn’t even get past learning the clutches and gears when I did learning for a bit, couldn’t be arsed.

Learned to pretty much drive an automatic truck in the states in about an hour, shame it isn’t socially acceptable in England, much easier

Stick with it tho

I had a melt down in one of my lessons before my test too Luckily I had a lovely instructor who gave me lots of motivational talks and I passed my test and I swear his voice was in my head all through it lol Stick with it, you'll be fine, everyone makes stupid mistakes when they're learning

Plus once it clicks manual is grand, it can be frustrating at the start though

I don't this it is an issue whether people drive an automatic or manual, its just as Tom says you get screwed when buying and also with lessons as instructors will only do 2 hour sessions which I think is too long when you are staring off as you are concentrating so much, my son was going to learn in an automatic but ended up doing manual in the end purely because no one would do one hour lessons in an automatic...

Thanks everyone, this has given me a bit of a confidence boost. I'll stick with manual for a couple of weeks longer but change to automatic if this persists.

Do you have your own car or a car belong to a family member that you can practice in? What I used to do was on my lunch breaks in work, I used to spend 45 minutes driving around the industrial estate gearing up and down. It helped practicing off the main road

I accidentally threw my car into reverse going down the dual carriageway during one of my lessons. All part of learning, making mistakes is also knowing how to avoid them.

People who have been driving for years make blips and car accidents happen for that reason. No one you know mightn't have slipped up like you did, but you aren't the only one, and I'm sure you aren't in a very small minority.

Driving's very dangerous regardless, but if you want to carry on, you shoudn't let this stop you! It's only natural to have a hiccup here and there x

It sounds pathetic that I'm throwing the towel in after that but I've genuinely had enough, mainly down to the fact that I don't know anyone who's had a blip like that before. Everyone else is better than me and it's horrible having to listen to how much progress everyone is doing when I'm going backwards. I don't want replies like 'grow up ' etc. so just leave if you have no advice to offer.
How was your instructor with you after these slip ups?

Don't put yourself down.

Granted, I didn't have some of the problems you've listed but it did take me until about hour 20 for the everything to just click and I was a lot more confident and operating the car smoothly to then start moving on to just concentrating on the manoeuvres properly.
