You can argue about the last point all you like and everyone is entitled to an opinion, but holding a mirror up to the right/brexiteers who have nothing other than slogans, name-calling, and labels is exactly the kind of thing that should be done.

As if trump would use an accurate description of a policy position to make a point against someone else he disagrees with; and it's false to liken the two. Trump lies about everything, constantly.
Well, maybe it is a bit different to Trump on reflection. I don't actually look at his Twitter account, I just see his Tweets reported sometimes.

I just think the First Minister shouldn't say things like that, but it's as much a comment on how bad politics are of Twitter as anything.

Last point I stand by - Brexit was an expression of English nationalism, as much as independence was an expression of Scottish nationalism. The two were linked and one followed on from the other (different results in the referendums obviously).

she's doing a good job at making sure EU and UK are prepared for a possible no deal brexit, but this is just May saving her own skin with the parliament

"An expression of English Nationalism" is exactly the right phrasing and also the most worrying of phrasings. I think it's a completely different situation because we're not looking for independence as a nation because we already had/have that, which has been laid out quite clearly in all of the brexit papers. I know people like to say that we're being dictated to by brussels but that doesn't make it true.

As as the topic (Corbyn saying 'stupid whatever') is concerned it shows how (some) people put defending their politics - no matter what the side - above every other concern.

You see that a lot in American politics (with its entrenched divisions) with people will defend the actions of a politician they would condemn if it was on the other side.

Although when I say English nationalism, it should be pointed out that 39% in Scotland voted for Brexit, and I bet you a lot them voted Scottish independence too.

eg. Mr LT on here, by the looks of it.

That's fair. Nationalism is on the rise everywhere unfortunately, and what makes it more worrying is that instead of calling it out, it's given softer labels of "economic anxiety" or "concerns about sovereignty".

I was waiting for someone to say that, thank you for biting.

Parliament is a jeering mess of schoolchildren tactics. Notice that, thoughout this topic, I've not condemned the Tories for their remarks that have been often numerous and, let's face it, worse, but merely stated that they are riding the outrage train to damage the opposition and that it's ultimately hypocritical.

The issue with Corbyn is an issue present within Parliament and it serves no purpose but party purposes to crucify one MP when people on all sides are guilty of the same thing. But, like I said before, I wouldn't consider someone calling me a stupid man to be a slur anymore than I'd expect it to be the other way around. If he called her a stupid bitch, that would have been a different story but as it stands, it's just more of the same playground tactics that people seem to be fine with when it's the blue side that does it but kick up false indignation when it's on the red side. This ultimately isn't an issue of sexism in this case, it's an issue of party lines and weakening an enemy through stirred up scandal when we're on the edge of the cliff with all this Brexit ****. It's a distraction.

I like how you tried to paint me as sexist and then anti-semetic (Wut?), thank you for demonstrating the disgusting tactics I've been talking about.
I'm not left, I'm a feminist and I dislike all religions equally but I don't oppose them. My views aren't simplistic as that though because life isn't black and white. I hate the tories but that doesn't mean I wouldn't agree with them if our views aligned on a subject. I despise bigotry but I'm not going to be one of those parodies that believe in cancelled culture and ultimately demean the cause by dragging people over the coals just because I can.

You're trying to put me in a box to invalidate my opinion and it's flopped because you aren't understanding where I'm coming from at all and that much is apparent by your rather strange accusations of sexism and anti-semetism.

I've noticed a lot of people who would usually wheel out the old "snowflake" and "Virtue Signalling" are now suddenly aware that sexism and misogyny exist and are bad.

People weaponising social justice is the main reason we're sliding backwards. Too many extremists that pushed for outrage were presented as the image of social justice and the side that opposed it now have realised the benefits of faux outrage and indignation.

I've said it a few times but it's pure Piers Morgan tactics.

The uproar of this all , anyone would think he called May the C word.

And I didn't realise saying "stupid woman" was the worst thing ever , what about words like "bitch" .

I bet Corbyn can be called a "stupid man " a million times a day and nobody would care .

This has once again turned into sexism BS over spilt milk, no wonder they're in such a mess over Brexit when they focus on trivial stuff .

I actually think this issue was seized on in part by the Conservatives, particularly Andrea Leadsom to re ignite some female Conservative MPs seemingly unresolved gripes with Speaker Bercow.

Another one who called a female MP a stupid woman and is well known for presiding over a culture of bullying amongst his staff

For goodness sake when did stupid become a banned word.
Even if he said it, he did about one woman, not all women.

This is ridiculous even relating bullying to it.

Good grief, no one will be able to say anything soon.

Those offended by the word stupid better not watch repeats of Dads Army, Captain Mannering calls Pike 'stupid boy' every episode just about.

Mrs daft May turned PMQs into a panto scene.
Stupidly in my view.

This Country is going nuts honestly.,

Except numerous people have accused Bercow of bullying in the last year and spoken of the effect it had on them, it's well known. The stupid woman comment was the tip of the iceberg for him
