40,000 over 40 years is not really a wave its a gradual absorption and every one would have trade and would work immediately (or die)

YOu just cannot try and compare today by just linking them with the word "immigrant"

its about as pointless and misleading as the tired " we are all immigrants" rubbish people spout as if that fixes mass immigration with no controls


We have many successful immigration stories like the Chinese, the Poles but that does not mean all immigration is positive and welcome.
