You have to ask what has made him contact you, has he had another failed relationship and wants an ego boost.
It’s very rare for ex’s to get back together after a long time apart but it does happen but if one of you or both of you have not changed in the years you have been apart it’s going to like have a dead pet back in your life after you berried them and grieved for them then picked yourself up and had to get on with life.
