Seems like Leo had a Teresa May moment, he called the election early due to his success with getting a deal done with Boris on the border issue, but people are more interested in Health and Housing, how out of touch can you be?
of those polled 1 per cent cited Brexit as an issue 15 % the economy the remainder cited housing and hospital wait lists as their reason for voting

They do have enough seats to possibly get in to power with a coalition though

The Irish SkyNews reporter said they do not. It would be to many rainbows Assuming the 2 main parties do not merge Look at what went down with our LibDems after they had 5 years with the Conservatives Now LibDems have only 11 MP's Last edited by arista; 10-02-2020 at 02:33 PM. |

All This Delay is getting Pathetic,
No way can Mary Lou get into any Power unless Martin lets her merge |

To be able to form a government you need 81 seats but the most any one party is going to get this time is mid forties

She may not want to do that herself either. She may be thinking that was a good run and just aim to increase her candidates before the next election so they can go in by themselves (or with a smaller group of more like minded parties/independents)

Yeah maybe so, they've been a long time building to get here, I doubt 4 years is much more to them to be honest. They're going to be very restricted if they go in to government with Fianna Fail
ETA : This is me just speculating btw, she hasn't said that

Definitely an interesting time in Irish politics. I did quite like Leo Varadkar as a politicial figure, so I think it's a shame he lost his seat. |

He hasn't lost his seat, he still got elected as a TD (MP) he just didn't top the Poll in his constituency but his party Fine Gael over all did badly so they probably wont be in government so he wont be Taoiseach (Prime Minister)anymore.

Basically by the end the elected Party has to get over 50% of the vote to win, it's the fairest system, and it means that any party has an equal chance at winning.

Final result in and FF only got 38 seats with SF getting 37, only one more, that's incredible considering FF had twice the candidates running, makes it even more unclear now what will happen. There's now even the slight possibility that Mary Lou could be Taoiseach - She would be our first female Taoiseach as well
