To be fair to Nico he's not wrong - H1N1 was "worse" than most people realise but no one really paid much attention to it, because most of the deaths were buried in the general influenza stats. It's estimated that there were between 300,000 and 600,000 deaths globally in the 2009 pandemic and most people don't even know it happened whereas people are currently losing their minds after 160,000 Covid deaths globally.
It is quite interesting and (in my opinion) goes to show the role that media saturation has played in the current pandemic.
