Default How about bring back DRIVE IN CINEMAS!

I bet there are plenty of carparks which have space you could put a screen in which can't be seen to those who didn't pay. Maybe a multistory carpark or something.

Whack a screen on the far end, allocate parking spaces which people aren't allowed to leave, and have a service where you can order the cinema food and a trolley dolly will drop it off just outside your space <3

Me and Gav were talking about this recently actually, only problem in Ireland though is that it rains so much, wouldn't fancy watching a movie through wipers

haha! I guess one of the inside floors of a multi storey would sort that out, but they're rarely a big open space are they, apart from the occasional "basement" level ones.

This idea is not too dissimilar ..

Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius, has announced plans to turn the city into a vast open-air cafe by giving over much of its public space to hard-hit bar and restaurant owners so they can put their tables outdoors and still observe physical distancing rules.

Neh. The best part of the cinema experience is the audio. If I wanted to watch a film in my car I'd stick a 50 inch telly on the bonnet and hook up the audio to the Bluetooth .

Were drive-ins ever a thing outside of the US? You always seem them as a staple of classic Americana but I dunno if I've ever heard of drive ins elsewhere.

Where would all the doggers go if we used car parks for cinemas?

I cant see reopening cinemas being a big issue, just book out seats so there are at least two seats between groups booking, get people to book online only, no snacks and queue to get in in a socially distant way, coming out they should be allowed to leave seat row by seat row with the first two seats in each row vacant so a member of staff can manage this, prices go up to reflect this, people will be so desperate to get out they will pay the extra without complaint

you could introduce snacks back in a month or so ...with queuing one way and exiting the another …

I should be in charge of Vue

stop people coming in late as well so you don't have them walking over you in the dark to get to their seat

Aren't cinemas a bit petri dishy though? If the virus can hang around a day or two, dependent on environmental factors, then letting a load of folks wipe their hands on the seats for a couple of hours, before letting in the next lot to rinse and repeat, seems like asking for trouble.

mmm maybe ...okay I will have to include deep cleaning between shows in my forward thinking, I reckon going forward everyone will be wiping down everything they touch for a bit

I'm literally washing any shopping that needs to go straight in the fridge/freezer, I think I need sectioning at this point

You already need to take out a second mortgage to afford the cinema.

They've started doing it in a few countries already, think Spain are doing it and Lithuania are using airport car parks to do it

Quote:
Hundreds of movie fans flocked to Lithuania's main international airport on Wednesday night to a drive-in cinema created in the shadow of planes grounded by the coronavirus pandemic.

Organizers of the Vilnius International Film Festival (Vilnius IFF) teamed up with the city's airport to create the Aerocinema drive-in.

They want to offer people the opportunity to go out for a movie amid the month-long coronavirus lockdown that has shuttered cinemas.
