Couple potentially controversial opinions actually seeing a bit of both sides:

Yeah George Floyd was not a model citizen (he held a gun to a pregnant woman's stomach in that arrest I believe or was it a separate instance?) and had multiple troubles but still it has absolutely nothing to do with how he was handled by the police/Derek in this individual case. It IS a bit ill-mannered tho to blindly defend and glorify a past criminal while then turning around & continuously (and generally) criticizing what is primarily a group of heroes. Blame people doing wrong in general, not biased general blaming of groups & agendas.

The cops involved with pushing the old man was an accident, it was a slight shove that turned into a tumbling fall and they looked immediately concerned / calling for an ambulance. They're trying to do their job clearing the streets but they should be more careful with handling an old man tho. You can't expect cops to not use some unnecessary force with the job they have to do but there can be better judgment on when to do so. Poor judgment in this case but an accidental injury nonetheless.

Taking down any statues is not a big deal. These might be historic people in history but there are bigger issues than that right now. I think kneeling on the statue is a bit in poor taste but it's nowhere near as bad as the white people mocking the situation doing the George Floyd challenge.

Who has portrayed him as a saint? The man did his time after doing something awful and spent the last 10-12 years of his life following the law and being a good father, he’s not a saint, but he is a victim of a tyrannical state sponsored gang that shows little to now respect for black peoples lives, saying ‘oh, well he wasn’t a good person’ really shows people for what they are sorry

If his background has no relevence to his murder, then why do people keep bringing it up trying to justify what happened to him, it just sounds like ‘eh, no loss’ but it is a loss, he didn’t deserve to die and his daughter doesn’t deserve to grow up without her farther because the police system allows cops to believe they’re above the law, it’s so tiring

We know hes a victim,no one said he wasn't he was trying to turn his like around and should be applauded for that , no one on this forum has condoned what happened to him ,I was just pointing out LT was not lying about his past.

Fwiw I don't agree with even bringing up George Floyd's criminal past as it has nothing to do with the injustice of how he was murdered, just commenting on it while it did get brought up in discussion
