Excuse me ? animal abuse is from those throwing fireworks and flares, bricks and bikes at the horses, good deflection though to try and blame the police, imo NO animals should be used for human safety or entertainment,I abhor horse racing, is that animal abuse ? i dont care what side you are on but to blame the police for those horses being hurt is just madness.

and i don't think we live in middle ages anymore, so hardly necessary either to use horses when you should be aware they can get startled in chaotic events like riots |

don't they have those shields, among their equipment
more defence for cops then and the water cannon is already a good one i guess teargas or pepperspray would also be effective in solving the riot problem quick and easy but yeah protest work has been done, now it should be up to politicians to step up and say ''we need to debate about how to get rid of racism'' |

Remembering Kerry
|
Quote:
I think it unwise to use mounted policing in these situations, for both the Police and Horses. I know people who have been on protest marches and demonstrations, mounted police come across, in my view, as a more intimidating presence. The Horse panicked, unseated its rider, charged off, then headed back to its stables. Wise indeed. Sadly these bits and pieces of the less welcome elements of the protests, will be used by those who don't REALLY support the protests, who'd rather pay a kind of lip service to the just cause of racism. Such as in media and politically. Racism in the UK too not just the USA. Which many would love swept under carpets sadly. George Floyd's tragic and shocking demise, was a part of the trigger for, injustice and prejudice still prevalent here in the UK as well as elsewhere. The outrage of a slave trader's statue being destroyed. Not condemning his vile slave trading history shows a media still even not getting what these protests are really about. The defacing of statues, while in no way would I do it, that's hardly the crime of the century. Churchill, right, he was an inspirational leader. As PM during the war. He led however a National government, he worked closely with the then opposition leader and party Clement Attlee all through the war. He wasn't a one man band. So unquestionably great he was,in 1945, the then voters of the UK turfed him and his party out of office. Why? If he had done so much and was so apparently great. Anyway, I agree, it was unwise to have mounted police there at all. In fact that may have helped inflame things Just my own view I'm expressing that I didn't think it appropriate to send mounted policing to that protest. also now to justify their actions, by mentioning george floyd as drugaddict criminal also kinda not getting the point of these protests
it's more about racism in general, not just one person it is more than about time stopping racism to get debated by politicians, i mean they like debating anyway and this is a very topical important subject to be taken care off |

That, and it's up to the police to kill unarmed people. It shouldn't have happened. Unless he was actively a physical threat to someone else there's no "justification" for the way it happened.

then crime (when handling criminal underworld you effectively also take on drugs) also i don't think BLM is the correct movement, i would be more specific in a #SayNoToAllFormofRacism, so against any colour, religion, sexuality (latter would also take on homophobia which is also good if that is stopped) |

IF people had protested peacefully like some wanted to,no horses would have been necessary, so its easy to blame the police , so do you blame the police for the person throwing the brick that broke the horses nose ? do you blame the police for throwing a bike at a horse or for scaring them with fireworks and flares ? The horse that bolted was spooked by a protester so you can try and twist that all you want, If I had my way NO animals would be used in anyway, but that is the way it is at the moment.Animals are used everyday for one thing and another unfortunately.

I have complicated thoughts on the statue toppling. I think it's reckless in the sense that someone's going to get themselves hurt or killed at some point, but really that's their choice
. I also think they should be gone, or as I said earlier, at least altered to reflect the true history (so be kept like museum artifacts - not idols) but then... I also think it would be much more meaningful to successfully campaign and convince those in power to have these things officially, legally removed or altered. A statue being toppled by civilians is a powerful image. An authority being successfully convinced to topple it themselves... is an even bigger statement. And I'd rather it went that way. Take them down, put them in a museum, with the full story. They're not much use to future generations at the bottom of a river, the unintended consequence could end up being that the truth is lost completely rather than set straight.Of course though, again, I fully understand that civil unrest isn't planned or logical. It just is what it is. You can't complain when a hurricane trashes a historical building... it's just something that happens. |
