It's pretty rare that permanent loss is a thing, but I can't be sure. I've read quite a lot about it and a few weeks after symptoms have gone seems to be a good marker, so I'm hopeful I'll only have another couple more weeks to deal with this.
The internet is full of horror stories, like I said I got totally paranoid about it once, was utterly convinced for a couple of days that it was gone forever, was properly moping on and on at my wife about it like " But what about [various foods]?? I love those . What if there's a gas leak . What if I'm smelly and don't know "

Then that very day literally mid-meal at dinner I was like " .... .... ... I... I can smell it! I can taste the food!!!"

Ate like an absolute pig for a few days tbh.
