it's what allowed her to be impartial when dealing with all the different political sides. If she had spilled the beans, all trust in her would have gone

no she would offer advice and disagree where appropriate, but all those meetings were always kept private

I watch T.V. when I happen to be in the living-room but there are so-many viewing-options these days that I don’t think anyone’s going to feel stuck for what-to watch tomorrow/this weekend, unless they were absolutely-gagging for live-time footie.

I don't know if it is necessarily a good thing and that's what I was wondering when I posted it. I do think the Queen represented a connection from today's generation right back to the 1950s though. If there's a thread from that time way back then till today she is that thread.

People now who are over 60 years old have only ever known her as head of state and all the time she's been gracious, steadfast, dutiful, good humoured etc etc in her role. Compare that to our last few PMs who have all been forced to quit in disarray after only a few years. She's a million times more popular than any of our recent leaders so I'm not sorry that she was our head of state and not them.

The depth of feeling can be hard to express but the Queen being the one constant over decades of problems meant something to a lot of people. The fact she didn't express political opinions only made her appeal wider

look how divisive places like the USA have become when they don't have that unique someone that can sit outside the political maelstrom

I get that, most of our leaders were awful too, I suppose my point is how could people ever have a negative opinion of her or any opinion at all , if they never really knew her or what her actual opinions were on any of the real big issues of the last 70 years?

Just a random thought its kinda different how both Ireland reacted isn't it? I'm guessing you are from the Republic but one of my colleagues is Northern Irish and he is in bits as is the people he knew back home, he always told me that she meant so much to the Northern Irish I guess because she isn't your monarchy you don't really have a strong connection to her like the British/Commonwealth wouldn't have a strong connection to say the Danish Monarchy even though they are related

We have our Miggeldy Higgins tbf but he's a bit fiestier and isn't too shy in giving an opinion even if he isn't supposed to. He's also elected though tbf

I think we saw how progressive she was by being a big part in ending a lot of the colonisation her ancestors did and was known to be a massive supporters of things like Black Rights, Female Rights and LGBT rights as well as trying to bring all nations together regardless of their race or religion.

The fact she spent her whole life visiting so many countries and meeting so many people and always had a smile on her face and happy to shake the hands of the normal common working class people says a lot really

I'm sure she did have views on them and I expect it was often a big burden to her that she never could give her real opinion. She presumably thought preserving the monarchy was more important but I do think it would be fascinating to know what she really thought

She has done remarkably well especially when you consider she had the power to overthrow the government and veto certain decisions yet always chose to keep it down to democracy like the public want

Charles has said that he won't comment when he becomes king, but the horse has already bolted, we know where his bias lies

Just to think everyone has carried her around in their wallets for decades she has been on every note and coin, every stamp we licked and her initials on every postbox we had to put our letters in, just small things like that you don't realise how big they were until the changes will be made
