Are we talking football?

Because I support Hull FC rugby league club because my Dad wouldn't have it any other way.

I support Everton because when I first got into football, they were the best. Same reason people support Manchester United or Liverpool. And Hull City had never even been in the top flight at that time.

Grew up watching Chelsea. Everyone in Primary school supported either Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs. It was always Chelsea for me. Went to my first game with my uncle and cousin in the mid 90's, we beat Sheffield Utd 3-2. Stamford Bridge has changed immensely since then.

We didn't always win, but we narf played some entertaining football back in mid/late 90's/early 00's before the Roman Empire. One of my best mates was half Italian in school, he's dad loved Chelsea because of the Italian players we had.

Going back to when i really got into football in the mid 90's, this is the worst i've position ive ever seen Chelsea currently in.

Darren Bent's dad is a Chelsea fan and took Darren to hundreds of games and when he was 9 he decided to support Arsenal and it stuck (#glory hunter)

That is an awful story, no dad should let their kid decide who they support - its chosen for you at birth

Yeah that's bad form, but at least it was a London club. We had a couple kids in school, considering this was just outside London, who supported Man Utd. That was unforgivable. Even one of the teachers supported Utd, he was from the Portsmouth ffs.

I did used to go watch Hull city in the late 80s when they were in the old division 1. Which is now the championship. But in 1990 I went to my first rugby league game and there was no turning back. I was hooked. It was just a better experience. Everton turning sh1te at that time probably helped.

Did you know down south Rugby is very much a middle to upper middle class sport. Only the Grammar and posh schools have Rugby, or "Rugga". Football is very much the working class mans sport down here.

Initially to piss off my Dad and Brother. They are both big Bolton fans and so by default hated Utd so I made them my team. My friend came round once with a Utd scarf on and our kid set fire to it in the garden

My mum was a Utd fan because she used to go to the games as she fancied Georgie Best (she hated gootball though )

Different rugby.

Up North in the M62 corridor, we play Rugby league. A truly working class sport. Rugby Union is your University sport.

I did put a video on here a couple of years ago explaining the difference between the two.

It was at one time just one sport. But in the late 19th century the people of the North who worked working class jobs like miners and that sort of job broke away because they wanted to get paid. Because when they got injured , then they couldn't go to work and earn money.

Rugby League was the first professional code of rugby where money was earned. Rugby Union didn't become professional until 1989.

That's fair. I just never remember any form of Rugby being a thing down here as a kid unless you went to a decent middle class school.

I used to support Chelsea after the playground has to choose between Chelsea or Leeds in the upcoming FA Cup final … that was in 1970 ..

By 1973 I’d switched to FC Barcelona as the best player in the world ( 3 times World Best Player) Johan Cruyff had joined them..

I’ve supported them avidly ( from a distance ) ever since

My father encouraged me to watch / enjoy / even play skilful football so I’ve always had a soft spot for Brazil ( and Spain ) .

No my Mum was from North London (like a lot of Utd fans lol) but moved up here when she was 6 her Mum is from Newton Heath and my Dad is from near Bolton and his whole family have been Bolton fans forever.

Alan Hudson was before my time. But I know of his talent. A player that probably should have got more caps than he did.

A bit of a maverick player by all accounts.
