Paul didn't play any part in that btw, Olivia/Tom were the main ones, Jenkin did when he was being pressured into it, Paul was there sure, but none of it came from him

You just answered your own question. He was very quiet in the beginning so did nothing to stand out to make himself more likeable to the audience. Then as he did show more of his personality, it turned out he's actually not very nice or likeable.
