It's becoming a bigger and bigger problem I think. What happened is absolutely horrific no matter what, but the rioting makes absolutely no sense. Just aimless, mindless destruction... and it seems to be happening more and more, with every big news story. No matter what it is, swathes of people will use it as an excuse to take to the streets for some civil unrest. It's not really about what has happened. It's just a symptom of a much wider problem currently at play in the western world.

When stories as tragic as this one are the excuse and get completely swept aside in the wake of random destruction, it becomes especially sad.

…’they’ do you mean the police officers, Vanessa…?…I believe all were arrested and all of the weapons were seized so there was no standing around and doing nothing…on the TV news last night, what I saw…(…and because there was an obvious danger to the public situation…)…was the police keeping the area clear and safe and staying that safe distance themselves, while they did that…but it all resulted in those arrests and that taking of all the weapons…

From what I saw they were not police officers. They came afterwards and made arrests.

…I mean, the main escalator and carrier of misinformation is social media, isn’t it…but that would seem difficult…(…if not, impossible..)…to regulate enough to be able to prevent the incitement it seems to…things don’t seem to have to have any truth at all to take flight and travel with a lightening speed…

I agree that Social Media in this case is the tool that makes these very quick mass gatherings possible, and "SoMed mindset" is absolutely a part of the equation of what's going on with people, but I don't think it can be the whole story. We've had Social Media for more than 15 years at this point, and it's been very mainstream for at least 10... but the "riot for every story" trend seems to be massively increasing in pace in recent years. Probably since Covid-times. I think Covid regulations, and lockdown, perhaps had a marked and permanent effect on social psych in the west in some ways.

Lots of factors coming together but it's a scary trend. I don't imagine it's going to get better before it gets much worse.

…well, more and more …(…and as you say, COVID times were a big factor…)…the movie playing out on the world stage has been of greater civil unrest and I think the starring role in that is social media …because it’s all being stoked and prodded and the flames fanned by many governments and establishments and all of those ments who like to keep the distraction of a divisive society…it’s a very layered thing, though…because no matter what fake news is posted on social media and by who…?…the reader will believe it because they want to…
