It's either one of two things:

1. He believed it, because he preached the Bible

He didn't believe it, because he picked and chose what to believe in the Bible, which calls into the question why he used selective outrage on certain topics/only believed certain Biblical teachings while ignoring others, which calls into question just how much of his "I believe this because of my religion" is true and how much of it was a shield for just being bigoted.

I'll let his fans decide which one is worse.

I've seen Kirk talk about this at Cambridge and his argument is that there is the ritual law, the ceremonial law and the moral law and Christians are only bound to the moral law which Christ affirms in the New Testament, not the other two which are prevalent in the Old Testament because Christ brought a new covenant between God and mankind
