Do you folks not have wood burning stoves in the Uk or are you misunderstanding what I'm talking about?

Surprised you’ve found time to post, what with all the wood chopping, harvesting and cow milking to do. Such an inspiration.

I do know what you’re talking about though. I would say a wood burning stove is more a ‘posh’ thing now though (in England/Wales). Not that it’s a bad thing, they are marvellous.

That's weird, they're a fairly normal thing to have over here - outside of the cities I suppose, most newer houses don't even have chimneys anymore but that's an environmental decision i think

…in new builds, are wood burners a fairly standard thing for the home to have…?…

In housing estates you mean? Not anymore as I said above most new builds aren't allowed to have a chimneys anymore for environmental reasons but lots of people would have them in not so new builds or would have replaced open fires with wood burning stoves

![]() Blooming criminal that new builds in Ireland are not allowed a chimney but I believe people get around it by putting in a pipe instead

When we lived in the Northeast, we chopped wood because we had a fireplace that had the pipes for the water boiler/baseboard heating running through it. So when we ran the fire, it helped to also offset the boiler and help keep everything nice and toasty and smelling like Maple...

Some of my favorite memories were tending the fire. My office setup was within walking distance as it was setup in a big room, so I would have a seat nearby and my cat was very comfortable laying on top of that to get as close to the heat as possible. She absolutely loved it. She was the runt of the litter under heaps of fur so after a bath she looked rather Egyptian. I miss her everyday but she did live a long time
If we have "fireplace" here, it's one of those fake "artistic" ones with a ceramic heater on the inside. Some homes do have them though, but they usually change them to inserts. We thought about putting a fire pit in our backyard, but it wouldn't be comfortable to use most of the time with our humidity.
