…a week ago it was summer and I was in summer clothing both indoors and outdoors…but this week we’ve had a few days with quite chilly mornings first thing and in the evenings and the throws have been wrapped around…when do you generally put your heating on…?….

I put it on over the weekend a couple of times, we even lit the stove on Saturday evening

It got down to 0 C the other night and right now the dining room is 14.6C but i wont be thinking about it till October. Happy to put a fleece on

I do know what you’re talking about though. I would say a wood burning stove is more a ‘posh’ thing now though (in England/Wales). Not that it’s a bad thing, they are marvellous.

…in new builds, are wood burners a fairly standard thing for the home to have…?…

In housing estates you mean? Not anymore as I said above most new builds aren't allowed to have a chimneys anymore for environmental reasons but lots of people would have them in not so new builds or would have replaced open fires with wood burning stoves

my heating just comes on automatically when the temperature drops below a certain level, isn't that how most work these days?
