…a week ago it was summer and I was in summer clothing both indoors and outdoors…but this week we’ve had a few days with quite chilly mornings first thing and in the evenings and the throws have been wrapped around…when do you generally put your heating on…?….

I put it on over the weekend a couple of times, we even lit the stove on Saturday evening

It got down to 0 C the other night and right now the dining room is 14.6C but i wont be thinking about it till October. Happy to put a fleece on

After days and days of rain ( often torrential) a few nights ago it was cold , wet and windy … which turned my thoughts to the poor homeless guys I regularly interact with and feed when passing .

I have no idea how they survive one night let alone years and years living rough

So very sad

Are wood burning stoves posh? I'm not talking about an Aga or anything

Do you folks not have wood burning stoves in the Uk or are you misunderstanding what I'm talking about?

I do know what you’re talking about though. I would say a wood burning stove is more a ‘posh’ thing now though (in England/Wales). Not that it’s a bad thing, they are marvellous.

Really? That's weird, they're a fairly normal thing to have over here - outside of the cities I suppose, most newer houses don't even have chimneys anymore but that's an environmental decision i think

In housing estates you mean? Not anymore as I said above most new builds aren't allowed to have a chimneys anymore for environmental reasons but lots of people would have them in not so new builds or would have replaced open fires with wood burning stoves

Have had mine on an hour a morning and an hour a night all through summer as I use radiators to dry washing. Will up it in a few weeks probably

Yeah that's how mine works.

When we were growing up my Dad wouldn't let us have on till 1st October no matter how cold it was and he always switched it off on 1st April.

and I will bet when he went, say, up the stairs and all the lights had been left one he said "Bloody hell it's like the Blackpool illuminations up here!"
