Jewish people are constantly under threat. Security at schools and synagogues, stab vests available before prayers, people having insults and terrible slurs thrown at them on their way to synagogue... I've said this before I know, but I've been spat at on the tube because I was wearing a small Star of David. Radical Muslims have been emboldened. Lots of people hide their Jewishness in London now, much as they did in Europe 90 years ago. And sadly, it's not Just London as today demonstrates, it's a problem that affects Jews wherever they are in the world. I think the issue has been underplayed for so long that people are shocked when something like this happens. Maybe that's why at a huge Hanukkah event on Bondai Beach, a famous tourist destination, there seemed to be no police presence at all.

The thing is Australia isn’t like the UK. Terrorism isn’t a big/common thing over there (well wasn’t). I also think the event itself was quite small, the area in which it looked to be held isn’t massive.

I’m not dismissing the seriousness of this attack, but I think people should be focussing on the perpetrators and the victims, not coming for the police until more is known about the full events.

Also, I’m sorry to hear you’ve been spat on. That is disgusting.
