I think people do watch the show with some pre-conceived ideas about how the contestants will perform. But isn't it natural to be that way.

If I switch on MTV and Oasis come on, there's a 99% chance I'm going to hate it, as I don't like them.

However, if Coldplay came on, there's a 99% chance I'm going to like it, since I like their style.

The same applies for XF contestants. Some you like, some you don't. And, it's not really going to matter what they sing is it.

But when people have the idea of "this will be awful/good" before they've even heard it and are praising/slating acts like no tomorrow when they don't really deserve to be, then its a bit odd.

I see your point with the scenario you've said but its not really the same thing.
