Do you think though its just possible that not every woman who was involved in an extra marital affair in years gone by was single? Or is it possible that not every women involved in an affair was lied to by the man as to his marital state?

I don't think women are sweet and loyal at all - but as you said it has generally been considered a 'man's world' and, as such, it has always been easier, both physically and psychologically (less stigma) for men to cheat! Men staying late at the office, going on a business trip etc - how many women with young children could get away with that!

We could go on forever like this - in the end I guess cheating is more to do with character than gender - but opportunity generally has a part to play, I think!

these days birds are far more likely to cheat, thanks to so called feminisim birds can get away with just about anything, dont mean its right or ok tho
